Un petit tour d'hélicoptère dans l'Ouest Var et au niveau du massif de la Sainte-Baume.
Le massif de la Sainte-Baume, ou plus simplement la Sainte-Baume, est un massif provençal du Sud-Est de la France, qui s'étend entre les départements des Bouches-du-Rhône et du Var sur une superficie de 45 000 hectares.
S'il existe un paradis de la randonnée, le massif de la Sainte Baume est celui-ci. De nombreux sentiers de randonnée existent, mais le plus court chemin pour accéder aux crêtes de la Sainte-Baume s'effectue à partir de l'hostellerie toujours administrée par les soeurs et frères Dominicains. Le premier sentier de randonnée labellisé Tourisme et Handicap du Var est situé au pied de la Sainte Baume.
La Sainte Baume, comme Lourdes, est un haut lieu de pèlerinage. Saint Louis, à son retour de Croisade, deux papes et Louis XIV y sont venus. Une hostellerie tenue par des soeurs et des frères dominicains accueille les pèlerins au pied du massif.

The Sainte-Baume massif, or more simply the Sainte-Baume, is a Provençal massif of South-East France, which extends between the departments of Bouches-du-Rhône and Var on an area of 45,000 hectares.
If there is a paradise for hiking, the massif of Sainte Baume is this one. Many hiking trails exist, but the shortest way to access the crests of Sainte-Baume is from the hostels still run by sisters and brothers Dominicans. The first hiking trail labeled Tourism and Handicap Var is located at the foot of the Sainte Baume.
The Sainte Baume, like Lourdes, is a high place of pilgrimage. Saint Louis, on his return from Crusade, two popes and Louis XIV came there. Hostels run by Dominican sisters and brothers welcome pilgrims to the foothills.
This is how I imagine the moon to be. The Sliding Sands Trail which is visible in places in the photo at 10,000 ft was a challenge, not because of the ups and downs, but because the oxygen level at that altitude does have an effect and makes it harder to breath. You also must stay hydrated. The Pu'u'ula'ula Summit is in Haleakala National Park on Maui. An experience not to forget.

Enjoying a spot of late afternoon cloudsurfing near the Eternal City as a wall of nasty thunderstorms starts to build over Naples out in the distance...
Taken from the cockpit on a flight from Melbourne to Honolulu. This is about 8 hours into the flight with about 90 mins to go. Sunrise occurs very quickly as we are racing towards it at 920 Km/hr (500 Kts). This only lasted about 2 mins but managed to get the shot.
