According to the current theme, group members were supposed to take a photo which represents peace. I chose a poppy. This flower was adopted as the symbol of remembrance shortly after the end of the First World War. This is why it served as a pledge (at least initially) that war must never happen again.
De acuerdo con el tema propuesto, los miembros del grupo teníamos que tomar una foto que representase la paz. Escogí una amapola. Cuando fue adoptada como símbolo del recuerdo, la Primera Guerra Mundial había terminado hacía poco tiempo. De modo que significaba el deseo de que no volviera a estallar otra guerra.
Really struggled to think of something original and different for this theme on Crazy Tuesday. I tried a few different ideas but none of them seemed to work, especially not to my satisfaction.
Gave up for a while and decided, mid-afternoon to boil an egg as a snack as feeling a bit peckish and whilst the water was boiling away, the thought struck me that maybe there might be a suitable ‘motion blur’ shot in the pan, not just the egg!
I took some shots and, lo and behold I arrived at some images that might prove suitable, I thought. I chose this one and after a little cropping decided that it was different and in my mind, quite original. The water surface appears smoothed out, adopting an oily look and getting rid of the individual bubbles, small and big. In my mind it looks a bit like transparent lava in the mouth of a volcanic crater! I know, I have a weird brain!

Everyone is getting along so well! We couldn’t be happier that we adopted Olaf. He’s been such a perfect addition to our family!
Ok.......... she's one of the cutest puppies I've ever seen! About 8 weeks old and up for adoption. She's being fostered by my client's daughter and mate. She's so new, she doesn't even have a name yet. She's paper trained and she's pretty mellow for a puppy this age. I'd adopt her myself but I already have three and two of my three are special needs. But if I were looking..... she would be a huge contender. So cute!

Good morning world! This is the third shot from my trip to spider-city last weekend.
Did you know that spiders perform some kind of carnal rituals to prevent the large females from eating the small males before fertilization, except where the male is so much smaller that he is not worth eating.
So fellas, all we can do is hope that the human ladies won´t adopt this strategy. Scary shit, huh? ;-)
A second group of older ducklings seem to have "adopted" this wonderful Mom. There are at least another 10 ducklings hiding underneath her wing. Note the size difference among the ducklings.

The town of Maderuelo, Segovia, Spain, boasts an ancient siege weapon: a trebuchet, also known as a trebuchet or funnel, which is used during local summer festivities.
The Church of Santa María del Castillo (Our Lady of The Castle) can be seen in the background.
The trebuchet was a medieval siege weapon used to destroy walls or launch stone projectiles against them.
It is believed to have been invented in China between the 5th and 3rd centuries BC, spreading westward through the Avars and being adopted by the Byzantines in the mid-5th century.
The counterweight trebuchet was an improvement on the traction trebuchet and appeared in Christian and Muslim lands around the Mediterranean around the 12th century. (Source: Wikipedia)

La localidad de Maderuelo, Segovia, España, cuenta con una antigua arma de asedio. Se trata de un trabuquete o fundíbulo, que se usa durante las fiestas locales en verano.
Detrás se ve la iglesia de Santa María del Castillo.
El fundíbulo (o trabuquete), fue un arma de asedio medieval, empleada para destruir murallas o lanzar proyectiles de piedra sobre los muros.
Se cree que lo inventaron en China entre los siglos V a. C. y III a. C., se extendió hacia el oeste por los ávaros, siendo adoptado por los bizantinos a mitad del siglo V.
El fundíbulo de contrapeso fue un perfeccionamiento del fundíbulo de tracción, apareció en las tierras cristianas y musulmanas del mediterráneo alrededor del siglo XII. (Fuente: Wikipedia)

Le temple de Ramsès III adopte un plan défini et qui sera le prototype des grands temples des périodes ultérieures : deux grands pylônes séparant deux cours aux péristyles, précédant la zone du sanctuaire.
La première entrée, porte monumentale encadrée des deux imposants môles du grand pylône, donne dans une cour ouverte bordée de deux portiques. Le premier au nord est composé de pilastres enserrés de statues massives de Ramsès III représenté en position osiriaque mais vêtu du pagne royal et coiffé d’une couronne solaire. Le second au sud est composé de colonnes papyriformes à chapiteaux ouverts et forme le portique royal. En effet le mur comprend une « fenêtre des apparitions », ainsi que deux portes donnant sur un palais royal qui se trouve à l’extérieur du temple. Il devait être utilisé par le souverain et la cour lors des cérémonies qui se déroulaient ici chaque année lors de la « Belle fête de la vallée », l’une des principales fêtes de Thèbes. D'aucuns pensent que ce palais, au vu de ses dimensions assez réduites, n'était qu'un palais rituel sans autre destinée que de jouer le rôle de palais pour le ka royal. De ce fait il n'aurait jamais été utilisé...
Quoi qu’il en soit il est composé d’un vestibule hypostyle, servant de salle d’attente, donnant sur une salle d’audience, plus petite, avec deux colonnes encadrant un podium sur lequel devait se trouver le trône du roi. Derrière cette salle se trouvaient les appartements royaux avec une antichambre, une chambre et une salle de bain. À l’est du vestibule on accédait à un couloir menant à une série d’appartements annexes dans lesquels on a voulu voir le harem du roi. À l’ouest du vestibule une porte donnait sur un portique qui bordait un jardin agrémenté d’un bassin, et donnant sur différents bâtiments administratifs. Ce palais est conservé sur ses premières assises et a été remanié au courant du règne de Ramsès III.
Le second pylône mène dans une seconde cour péristyle dans laquelle se trouvaient autrefois des colosses royaux. L’ensemble de ces cours a conservé sa couverture ce qui a protégé durablement les fresques et reliefs du temple. Ainsi on peut admirer des plafonds au bleu profond couverts d’étoiles, des scènes religieuses et militaires sur les murs qui ont gardé une fraicheur extraordinaire. De même la plupart des colonnes ont conservé leurs pigments ce qui nous permet d’avoir une idée assez précise de l’aspect d’un temple dans l’Antiquité. Chaque mur, chaque colonne, chaque plafond, chaque corniche, chaque hiéroglyphe, tout était peint de couleurs vives.
Cette seconde cour donnait à travers un portique accès à une troisième entrée, cette fois sans pylône, qui menait à l'hypostyle - laquelle a perdu son plafond. En effet en l’an -27, l’ensemble de la région fut victime d’un séisme qui affecta la plupart des monuments de Thèbes. Médinet Habou n’y échappa pas et la salle hypostyle s’effondra. Elle est aujourd’hui réduite aux premières assises des colonnes, qui restent cependant imposantes et est entourée d’une série de chapelles qui ont été restaurées et qui, elles, ont conservé leurs décors peints. Le sanctuaire a lui aussi souffert des vicissitudes de l’histoire et si on peut reconnaître son emplacement dans l’axe de la première hypostyle, le naos à lui disparu.

We just adopted two brothers who needed a home. They are older cats and seem to be taking to our strange ways.
About a month ago, I found this kitten along the center divider of a busy freeway. I had worked a grave shift and I was tired. In order to stay awake, I was driving with my windows down on that cold morning. In between the road noise of the cars passing me on the left in the carpool/HOV lane, I heard a desperate "meow". I glanced over to see a tiny kitten in need of help. I almost kept going but decided to go back to help her. Once I was able to coerce her into my tool bag, I dropped her off at the local animal shelter where she was cared for and recently became available for adoption. Long story short, we have adopted her.
