As an early adopter, glad I had my Canon R6 mirrorless in 1984. Tooling around Grand Rapids in my AMC Eagle, I was able to get a roster shot of this caboose.
Bob is adopted on a trial basis for a week.
When I was searching for his owner last weekend I found a poster in one of the local grocery stores for a lost Manx cat. It had been missing since September. I phoned the number and talked to the lady. Her lost cat was a neutered male tabby Manx cat, but had no white on his face and no tattoo. It was not a match. We talked for a few minutes and I could tell she had really loved her cat.
When I got custody of Bob I decided to phone this lady and see if she would like to have him. She agreed to meet Bob, which she did this evening. She wants a friendly cat that the entire family can enjoy, and Bob fits that bill nicely. I'm sure she was impressed with how docile and friendly he is, because she took him home. If he gets along well with the other cat at their home (it's just a kitten yet) and with the family dog, they will keep him.
I can see she loves cats and I am so thrilled for Bob. She was very sad over the loss of her previous cat - she looked for her lost cat a lot harder than Bob's previous owner did. I am now hoping this will work out; only time will tell. The rest is up to Bob himself.
I am sorry I have fallen behind on commenting. I will try to catch up tomorrow and a little bit more this evening. With two days off, I would have thought I would have time to keep up on Flickr, but I was so busy the past two days, they just flew by!
I haven't posted any photos of Ginger in a while. Truth is, she's been sick off and on for a while now.
First we found out she somehow ended up with a bad case of kennel cough, despite having had her bordetella vaccine. While we were working on getting that cleared up, she tested positive for hookworms (again). We treated her for both things and last week she looked like she was on her way feeling better. Throughout all of this though, Ginger has had sporadic days where she'll stop eating and drinking, and instead eat lots of grass. We attributed it to the various other illness she had, but once those cleared up, it still left this persistant upset stomach a big mystery.
Last Thursday we saw the vet, who put her on Pepcid in case too much stomach acid was the problem, and mentioned that if that didn't work, she might have a stomach worm. Stomach worms are rare, but often seen in dogs who spend a lot of time outside because they come from insects and sometimes rodents or frogs. Well, Ginger spent some time as a stray before we got her, so a stomach worm seems likely. I just picked up the medication to treat her for that yesterday afternoon, but haven't given it to her yet.
This morning, she vomitted blood.
I've talked to the vet already and we have an appointment for Ginger this afternoon. Needless to say, I'm very worried about her. Hopefully this new development is just another symptom of this elusive stomach worm that can be easily treated. I hate seeing my adorable puppy so sick and miserable.
Update: Well, I ended up having to see a vet I don't like and now I'm just frustrated. He gave us more antibiotics and steroids, then sent us home. I don't agree with his assessment at all. She was just on antibiotics! We're going to give her some stomach soothing medication (no thanks to the vet), and hopefully that will make her feel better enough to eat and drink. I might be wrong, but I don't think more antibiotics are the answer here. Thanks for all your concern!

Boxes.. Boxes.. Boxes!!! Are just a few of Justice's favourite things. This sweet boy arrived at C.A.R.E.S. when his time ran out at a neighbouring shelter. Justice is a quiet, independent boy who is looking for an indoor only furever home. He is slightly cross-eyed, but it doesn't seem to affect his vision at all. He is OK with other cat friendly cats. No dogs or young children.
ADOPTED APR 2019
When we adopted Charlotte she was already a crabby old lady who had been a pet at one time, had been declawed to the point she didn't have any front toes, was abandoned and had to have an infected tooth pulled when found. She died shortly after this photo was taken due to liver failure as a result of having starved for so long when on her own. I don't think she ever really liked people much, for good reason. We gave her as much love as possible for the remainder of her life.
I traded with a friend in the UK and Winona came to live here today :) She has an interesting face but a very chubby body! Faceup is by Connie Lowe.
Joy was adopted from C.A.R.E.S. as a kitten, but was recently found abandoned in a box in Burnaby. She was traced back to us, and when we contacted her owner, he said he didn't want her anymore. Now this poor little lady is looking for a new forever home.
Joy is a beautiful, spunky girl! She loves cuddles and she has lots of energy. We're still getting to know Joy, so we aren't sure how she is with other cats, dogs or children.
I'm another new gal at the kennel and I'm called Danica - Russian for 'morning star.' I so love the mornings. Lots of hound chit chat. Volunteers bustling around cleaning our 'condos,' taking us out for a run, and giving us loads of affection.
Kennel volunteers just love stroking my ears, probably because my left ear always points to the right and they think they can fix it. Not so. This ear is tuned to National Public Radio, but that's our secret. So if you're looking for a treasured family companion that appreciates quality radio, you've found her. We can have coffee and biscuits in the early morning and hang out on the patio, listening to our favorite programs.
Foster update: What a cutie! She's just discovered the joy of stuffies and squeaky toys and thinks they are the best! She's always carrying one around in her mouth.
She's the first dog we've had that not only takes her toys outside, but will bring them back in when she's finished- very clean [or possessive, i'm not sure which!]
Danica loves Gordon (another grey) and tries to get him to play by 'stealing' his toys. She plays 'peek-a boo' with him- she had us in stitches because she truly thought he couldn't see her when she hid behind the duck.
She will be a wonderful friend to a lucky person, I am certain!

We took this beautiful girl from streets and stayed 2 days in our house. Now she is already in a real house in Lisbon !! =(^.^)=
In 11-15-05. A super sweet, albeit skinny, little Redbone girl rescued from a kill shelter in Moses Lake, Wa. This gal is missing some groceries, but that will be remmedied soon. She is housebroke to a point, learning to sleep in crate at night and gets along well with all other dogs. She's soft and gentle, not at all aggressive. She has a traditional Coonhound "bay", and so a city home might not be the best option unless you have a "doggie friendly" neighborhood. She HATES being cold, would rather snuggle up on the couch and eat popcorn and keep your feet warm all day. She is very sweet, gentle and kind. She isn't afraid of men or strangers. She could be an excellent companion to a family with children, and maybe a gentle, not so rough other dog to play with. She does "give chase" to cats and will not stop till they are "treed". This is a common Coonhound behavior and so a home without cats would be best for this gal!

Yet another shot with a high ISO - even on a sunny day I'm struggling in many of my best wildlife spots. I was very happy to actually be able to capture this nuthatch in a characteristic pose though.

Went to the pound to look for an Australian Shepherd and found this mix. What do you think she might be mixed with? We thought maybe some Chow because of her thick hair.
It was love at first sight... really...
Rascal was surrendered by a family with small children. He was adopted as a kitten, and he did not do well when the kids came along. He was very angry when he came to us-- the kids sure took a toll on poor Rascal.
Rascal has warmed up immensely! He is very affectionate and loves attention. He likes to play and talk to you. He's a friendly, outgoing boy who would make a wonderful companion. He loves to be up high, so a tall cat tree would be in order. Jumping on shoulders is fun for him as well.
Rascal does NOT do well with young children. We don't know how he is with dogs. He doesn't seem to like the cats here, though he might open up in a home where he has his own space.

This poor dog is in Taiwan. Due to its "white paws", it's supertistiously believed to be unlucky in Taiwan. Thus my cousin (a vet) had not been able to find people to adopt him. My cousin is willing to send him to the states. For more details please drop me a message.
