Ajaccio, Corsica. Jeannette enjoying the New Year's Eve sunshine at a nice little pavement café we found by the Imperial Chapel (the Chapel was shut).
Danny was really entranced by the amazing huge and old oak tree out in the patio. When we enquired inside as to its age, the server didn't know but instead proceeded to tell us that the tree was the basis for the restuant's name, Mugaritz.

Ajaccio, Corsica. The main shrine (of several) to the man who plunged the whole of Europe into bloody war is on a hill above Ajaccio, the "Grotte Napoleon". A very impressive statue in characteristic pose looks out over the city, above a huge stone plaque recording Napoleon's major battles - although surprisingly the plaque omits the Battles of the Nile, Trafalgar and Waterloo, and most of the second half of the Peninsula War. Wonder why?
