Severe drought is now affecting all regions of Somalia and if the next rains also perform badly, there is a serious possibility of famine. This follows the failure of two or more consecutive rains with the last Deyr Season (October-December) performing poorly across the country with large areas receiving less than 40 per cent of the normal rainfall.
The drought is aggravating the existing chronic humanitarian crisis in Somalia with more than 363,000 children under-5 acutely malnourished and 71,000 of these children suffering from severe acute malnutrition (SAM) and in need of urgent life-saving treatment. 6.2 million people, half of the population, is food insecure. By April, UNICEF estimates that the number of people in need of health, water/sanitation assistance will be 750,000 and 4.5 million, respectively.
Ajaccio, Corsica. We had a cuppa at a café by the Grotte Napoleon. The waiter asked Jeannette whether she wanted a small or large coffee - this is the "large"!

Elementary Group 2-Dimensional Display
On Saturday, March 8, 2014, over three hundred students from throughout the county participated in Sacramento County History Day at Inderkum High School. The winners in the six categories - 2-dimensional displays, documentaries, exhibits, papers, performances, and websites - will move on to the statewide competition this April in Riverside, CA. A list of the state qualifiers can be found here.
National History Day is a year-long educational program that encourages students to explore local, state, national, and world history. After selecting a historical topic that relates to an annual theme, students conduct extensive research by using libraries, archives, museums, and oral history interviews. They analyze and interpret their findings, draw conclusions about their topics' significance in history, and create final projects that present their work. These projects can be entered into a series of competitions, from the local to the national level, where they are evaluated by professional historians and educators.
Sacramento County History Day is sponsored by the Center for Sacramento History and the Sacramento County Office of Education.

As we were relaxing on the patio, they brought us our 1st amuse - a Mugartiz classic.
The potatoes are cooked in clay, and served over warmed stones. We were warned not to eat the actual stones. :-)
The potato with clay coating was perfectly cooked and flavourful, even without the aioli.
Danny was really entranced by the amazing huge and old oak tree out in the patio. When we enquired inside as to its age, the server didn't know but instead proceeded to tell us that the tree was the basis for the restuant's name, Mugaritz.
Muga - means border
Ritz - Oak tree
The lovely old oak is positioned right on the border of 2 towns...
