Notes: Adolphe Dallemagne started out as a painter, having studied with Ingres, Cogniet and Monvoirsin, and then switched to photography. He created a series of photographs of contemporary artists, published as Galerie des Artistes Contemporains, which appeared in different painting frames from the time periods and styles of LouisXIV, Louis XV and Louis XVI, complete with a theatrical velvet curtain.
