The Adobe Badlands is characterized by abruptly sloping hills dissected by rugged, serpentine canyons. Most of this area is composed of Mancos shale formations that create a sparsely vegetated badlands landscape known locally as "the adobes." In portions of the area, wind and water erosion have created isolated small mesas surrounded by a maze of deeply-carved canyons, washes, and ravines.
Vigas (support timbers) cast strong shadows on adobe-constructed San Francisco de Asis Church in Ranchos de Taos, New Mexico, a National Historic Landmark.

Adobe construction -- the use of earth and water (mud) bound with straw, or the like, baked and hardened in the sun -- has existed since around 800 B.C. Without a regular/yearly reapplication of mud, adobe structures simply dissolve in the rain and erode in the wind. Looking at earlier photos of this building, the edges have softened a bit with this yearly reapplication of mud.
I am going to have a few days uploading some of my visit to New Mexico, so many of these images are new to me as I took so many and have never really looked at them properly.
This was taken one evening from my friends Adobe house in Corrales, Albuquerque, New Mexico. How ever could I have failed to see it
I love the detail at the base of the beak, so I tried Adobe's "Enhance" function (following Mark Galer's advice). That uses AI to upsize the image by a factor of 2 in each dimension. This seems pretty impressive to me, although I haven't put in the usual work otherwise. Compare with the un-enhanced version.

Afternoon light on the rolling contours of Colorado's Adobe Badlands, an incredible lunar landscape with endless photographic potential.
A new draft management plan for the surrounding region proposes to open up about 90 percent of BLM lands in this huge chunk of Southwest Colorado to oil and gas drilling. Yep, that's right, 90 percent of hundreds of thousands of acres.
Some areas, like the Adobe Badlands, are also becoming really scarred by off-roading despite a loose set of unenforced regulations. Last week some places were completely torn apart by tire tracks, making it a challenge to find a clean composition.
These are public lands that belong to us all, and thankfully for a brief period we can have a say in how they're managed. As fears rise over fake imagery generated by artificial intelligence flooding the internet, one of the world’s leading stock photo websites is openly selling AI images of the Israel-Hamas war !
A quick search on Adobe Stock for “Israel-Palestine conflict” brings up dozens of AI-generated images purporting to show the Middle East conflict; in fact, the overwhelming majority of results are AI.
Adobe announced that it is accepting AI-generated submissions from generators such as Midjourney, DALL-E, and Stable Diffusion last year and are unique in that they are the only major stock photo website to have such a policy.
In June, a report from Stock Performer suggested that AI images are outperforming real photos on Adobe Stock.
The analytic website for stock photographers found that the average revenue per image per month for AI images is a whopping four and a half times bigger than photos or any other format ...
