I dream of fire
Those dreams are tied to a horse that will never tire
And in the flames
Her shadows play in the shape of a man's desire
This desert rose
Each of her veils, a secret promise
This desert flower
No sweet perfume ever tortured me more than this

There was no sign giving the name of this beautiful tropical flower in the ENMAX Conservatory at the Calgary Zoo. Think I've posted a photo of this plant species before, so will check later, when I get back home. Taken on 9 April 2013. I think this is called Adenium.
"Adenium obesum is a species of flowering plant in the dogbane family, Apocynaceae, that is native to the Sahel regions, south of the Sahara (from Mauritania and Senegal to Sudan), and tropical and subtropical eastern and southern Africa and Arabia. Common names include Sabi star, kudu, mock azalea, impala lily and desert rose." From Wikipedia.

It started to snow when I was out on a walk all morning at Carburn Park, and it's still snowing, just lightly at the moment. It was cold, with an icy wind, especially while we were walking along the edge of the Bow River. This afternoon, it's 0C (windchill -7C) and there is s spring snow storm in effect. Snow for tomorrow, too - it will be Tuesday before we see any sun again. Can't wait!

Desert #rose #AdeniumObesum with swollen stems, slim leaves & striking #flowers grows where there is sufficient light, warmth & water.
Be wary of its poisonous sap.
First time budding on this Adenium Obesum plant, which was adopted as a seedling into our garden about 1.5 years ago! How exciting to see it maturing into a beautiful young adult, though at a snail's crawl! :D

And, holidays are for renewal and for seeing new sights. This is a tropical flower found at Kibbutz Ein Gedi near the Dead Sea. The blossom is Adenium obesum; it is tropical and native to East African countries and Arabia [Google].
The petals are about 1-1/2 inches across, and the flower is quite common in the hot, dry Dead Sea region. Ein Gedi is a well established collective community, and its entire area is a beautiful and well organized botanical garden.
The image was resized with just a few tweaks in editing. It has been a gorgeous spring day in Jerusalem, with the afternoon temps in the mid-80's/f. Happy Bokeh Wednesday!

Adenium Obesum or Desert Rose.
The sap of this plant is poisonous.
The plant is a native of East Africa and often lives for hundreds of years. The growth habit of this flower is one that may be grown as a bonsai.
Photographed at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens in the Desert Conservatory house.
Adenium is a genus of flowering plants in the family Apocynaceae, containing a single species, Adenium obesum, also known as Sabi Star, Kudu or Desert-rose. It is native to tropical and subtropical eastern and southern Africa and Arabia.
The plant exudes a highly toxic sap which is used by some peoples, such as the Akie and Hadza in Tanzania, to coat arrow-tips for hunting.

Identificado o nutriente que estava faltando, minha Adenium está com boa recuperação, as novas folhas como podem ver já estão saudáveis e as antigas teve redução do amarelamento e estão menos retorcidas.

This desert rose
Each of her veils, a secret promise
This desert flower
No sweet perfume ever tortured me more than this
And as she turns
This way she moves in the logic of all my dreams
This fire burns
I realize that nothing's as it seems
I dream of rain
I dream of gardens in the desert sand
I wake in vain
I dream of love as time runs through my hand
I dream of rain
I lift my gaze to empty skies above
I close my eyes
This rare perfume is the sweet intoxication of her love
Omry feek antia
Ma ghair antia
(My life is for you
And no one other than you)
