lately i've been so preoccupied practicing hdr. i guess i still need more time with it.
last tuesday this lens arrived fresh from circuit city but i didn't get to play with it much because of staying infront of the computer tone mapping.....

what i love about this camera is that it is over 30 years old and was used once at the pittsburgh zoo, the only time it was ever used.

On Friday, October 23rd, 2015 the SAS Middle School held our Olweus Anti-Bullying program kickoff event. This research based program has been utilized in many schools throughout the world to help address bullying and bring its devastation out of the shadows. Students participated in activities in the classroom as well as team-builders in the gymnasium.
A role-playing activity was the beginning of the kickoff in the classrooms. Each student had the chance to play roles such as the bully, the bullied, possible defenders, as well as others. The intent of the activity is to illustrate how students are often presented with the opportunity to stand up to bullying throughout their school careers. In addition to the role play, students were given the opportunity to write anti-bullying essays or create posters to illustrate the program and our focus on ending bullying in our building
Students participated in team building activities around the gym designed to build skills in communication, problem solving, and listening.
The first activity was called "Picture Pieces". This problem solving activity instructed students to recreate an exact copy of their piece of the puzzle. The participants put their pieces together to form one image. They were posed with the challenge of not knowing what their group members had and were able to see how one person contributes to an overall group result.
The next activity focused on communication. Students worked in pairs to give verbal directions to a partner as they draw a simple image. The entire group shared their image to see which pair was able to communicate and recreate the image closest to the actual picture.
The following two activities focused on trust, communication, and listening skills. Students work in pairs to guide their partner through a "mine field" while they are blind folded. Students had to get to the other side without hitting any of the items. A variation of this game required students to walk to a location blind folded and retrieve as many items as they could as their partner guided them verbally. The last station was a photo booth where students formed many group poses with props to help send a "No Bullying" message.
The day brought fun and awareness to everyone in the middle school. We look forward to our class meetings that will supplement our efforts to address bullying.
In addition to Yoda, I got me a SOLO!! He was always my favorite character from the time I first saw "Star Wars" as a 7-year-old girl when it was first released.

The Great Mosque of Kairouan, also known as the Mosque of Uqba, is one of the most important mosques in Tunisia, situated in the UNESCO World Heritage town of Kairouan.
Established by the Arab general Uqba ibn Nafi in 670 AD (the year 50 according to the Islamic calendar) at the founding of the city of Kairouan, the mosque is spread over a surface area of 9,000 square metres and it is one of the oldest places of worship in the Islamic world, as well as a model for all later mosques in the Maghreb. The Great Mosque of Kairouan is one of the most impressive and largest Islamic monuments in North Africa, its perimeter is almost equal to 405 metres (1,328 feet). This vast space contains a hypostyle prayer hall, a huge marble-paved courtyard and a massive square minaret. In addition to its spiritual prestige, the Mosque of Uqba is one of the masterpieces of both architecture and Islamic art.
This addition was designed to expand the homeowner’s family entertainment area. The new structure was built to meld with the existing roofline and compliment the home’s brick exterior. To give the outside a polished and inviting look we accented the structure with built-in brick planters, matching vinyl siding and utilized a low maintenance screen tight system. The interior space was embellished with a cathedral ceiling, ceiling fan, recess lighting and the convenience of electrical outlets. Not only has this addition enhanced their cozy home, but gives them a lovely place to entertain.

Open House New York visit to The Blue School, 241 Water Street. The building was built as the Seamen's Institute -- the first new building in the South Street Seaport historic district designed
by Polshek Partnership, and built in 1991. The building was renovated by Rockwell Group in 2010 as the Blue School, with an addition designed by PellOverton, and built 2016.

Blue School is an independent school for 2-year-olds through 8th grade with a maker-heavy, project-rich curriculum. Blue School's iconic ship-like building at 241 Water Street in the South Street Seaport, and its new middle school building, an adjacent 1940’s-era frozen seafood warehouse, are contemporary learning environments that preserve much of their buildings' original Seaport character. Blue School's expansion in the neighborhood continues as they prepare to open a new middle school building on William Street in 2018 (plans for that building will be on view).
Saturday & Sunday Tour Info: Tours and conversations will be lead by members of Blue School's Leadership Team at 2pm on both days.
For Kids: Hands-on STEAM activities will be available for families. Come investigate materials, design and build together.
The area was originally a 3 season porch. The existing deck was supported while the demolition/construction of the addition was being performed. The entire structure was removed down to the foundation. The foundation was built to match the height of the existing house. According to the supplied architectural plans, the new structure was built. The roof lines were integrated into one another, siding was blended from old to new, and the deck was attached to the new addition. The new addition was to accommodate the new kitchen. All the necessary pluming, electrical, and structural work was performed. The new kitchen featured a cathedral ceiling, sky light, oak floors, granite countertops, custom cabinetry, a teak center island and dining table.
