Smartphones have their uses, certainly, but the combination of our devices and addictive social media algorithms, they appear to have taken over our lives rather than being a tool to enrich them.

This is one of a small group of Common Terns that were hawking insects out of the air over the lake. These birds are amazing flyers, and photographing them in flight is totally addictive :o)

Let the baking begin....and I always start with good 'ole chocolate chip cookies. These have a twist, however. They are from a recipe called "Martha Stewart chocolate chip cookies" and they are just like the recipe of toll house cookies, except there's a 1/4 cup more of brown sugar and a 1/4 less of white sugar. Highly addictive!

Photographing these birds is addictive. It may be a good thing for me that they are only in my area during the summer months.

DIFficult conditions for DIFs yesterday, but there is something addictive about the challenge of taking these.

Quite addictive once you start eating them.

Smoke photography is really addictive! You start with frustrating results, missing the smoke cloud altogether or getting an out-of-focus puff. But after a while, once you get the right settings and a good timing, the fun begins and you get random jewels out of... thin air!

For this series I was in an almost dark room, at a distance of about 10cm from a vertically held incense stick (Palo Santo, to be precise) and used a flash. As I wanted the light coming from the side and since I don't have a remote control unit, I directed the flash to the right, so the light could bounce on the window and the reflection illuminate the smoke sideways.

The rest is pure luck and lots of trial and error. More than 400 shots have been fired that evening and the room still smells like a church. 😇

Dato and Assassin. These are bloody addictive. And having a loose narrative really makes it fun; they don't all have to be cohesive as a group, they can be wacky, dangerous, helpful, cute, whatever direction they need to go in. Probably the biggest constraints are keeping them to this size and having a preference for chunky proportions.

Found still life photography from Glasgow, Scotland.

The most popular carbonated beverage in Scotland, even toppling the global favourites.

I tried it once and soon realised that it could be really quite addictively tasty. I stick to coffee or sparkling water.

I'm still resting up here. Random episodes of ectopic arrhythmia and bradycardia continue but are asymptomatic. Rest is practically enforced as I am consumed with Long Covid fatigue right now with a cluster of recurring symptoms.

I hope that it passes soon.

2026 FAFM Feb 19 S is for Sugar

It is said Sugar is more addictive than cocaine, and yet it is in nearly home.

As I was preparing for this challenge I went through my pantry and found 6 types of sugar ... 5 of them are here, the 6th was icing sugar. I did think about dusting this scene with icing sugar, but then thought about the mess I'd have to clear up :))

Amongst my store were 2 half bags of granulated sugar that had turned into bricks, so I threw them out, and bought the smallest bag I could find ... just in case a visitor wants sugar in their tea/coffee.

And yes, I have some silver plated sugar tongs and a sugar sifter spoon, that are part of a set, along with a jam spoon and butter knife. They almost never see the light of day, unless they are needed as photo props :)
