The Bee orchid (Ophrys apifera) flowering in the reserve in a company of a Pyramidal orchid (Anacamptis pyramidalis) coming to bloom in the background. Another orchid species to add to my list of wild orchids of the Browne’s Folly Nature Reserve. Though it is on official records for this WT reserve, it is for the first time in many years since visiting this place I found this little stunner in full blooming glory. The bee orchid flower mimics a female of certain species of bees to fool males that will try to mate with a flower pollinating it. These bees apparently are not found in the UK where these orchids move to plan B of self-pollination. Avon Wildlife Trust, Bathford near Bath, England, UK

a new, standalone style hud.

tip: removing materials is useful to eliminate hair/head alpha

This Whiskered Tern is a rare vagrant here with only around two reports in the whole country each year . This one spent a day at Dungeness RSPB where I was lucky enough to photograph it on my way home from work along with another rare visitor a Roseate Tern .. Sorry about the poor image quality (due to distance) but it does show the white area under the eye (like Whiskers) the dark under the wing and the white borders to the wing feathers .

An image first uploaded 9 years ago and which has now been through the virtual darkroom once again for some up-to-date grain reduction work. The original upload has been deleted.
Exhaust fumes and leaking steam add to the atmosphere in the wee small hours of a cold winter's night at York station, as class 47 no. 47410 waits time with a rake of Mark 1 carriages on a down East Coast Mainline service.
The somewhat dodgy Zodel CDS Light Meter I was using at the time (a hand-me-down from my Dad) would likely have given me an indicative reading of 15 secs at F5.6.
But after factoring in the 1.6 stop adjustment of the 80B filter I was using for colour correction, then adding 50% for reciprocity failure (film reactivity being non-linear at low light levels), I got a final exposure of 23 seconds at F4-2.8. All a bit finger in the air but, with a couple of additional bracketed exposures, I generally managed to get a keeper.
As suggested above, the Zodel meter wasn't the most competent one on the block, but being familiar with its traits was a real help. In fact I see one is currently available on eBay for just £13 plus postage - perhaps an investment beckons for old times sake!

Built c. 1890, refurbed in 1946, closed 1972. One large room with a fireplace in one gable wall, this was built to a standardised plan and is identical to many others around the country. Someone added 'indoor plumbing' at some stage, but the outhouses still stand behind the schoolhouse. (Tried to shoot this six months ago, but in my haste in pulling off the road, I drove into a watery ditch hidden by overgrowth. Fortunately for me a passing 4x4 stopped and yanked me out, and I scurried home, tail between my legs.)
