I believer that they often cut children's hair if they were very ill and wonder if this is why Ada has this very cropped style.
I think I remember reading that cutting hair when a child was sick stemmed from a belief that hair "sapped your strength" but in reality it could have been just a practical way to stop the snarl of tangles from a long time lying on a pillow.
Our dog, Ada, has never been able to sit correctly. She's either too long, or not long enough. In any event, something is wrong with her geometry. My dad caught her in this particularly unladylike pose.

Born 6 July 1907 at Scone, New South Wales to William Thomas Bridge and Ada Matilda Bridge, of Stoney Creek, New South Wales, Australia. Enlisted 19 August 1941 at Victoria Barracks, Sydney N.S.W. aged 33 years, occupation, trained nurse. Her mother was her next of kin. Embarked Singapore bound for Australia 12 February 1942 on Vyner Brooke. Murdered by Japanese troops on Radji Beach at Bangka Island, 16 February 1942, aged 34 years after surviving the sinking of the SS Vyner Brooke. Commemorated on the Singapore Memorial, Singapore.
This 125-foot bridge spans the Thornapple River in the Village of Ada, Michigan. Built in 1867, the bridge was restored in 1941 in a joint project of the Kent County Road Commission and the Works Progress Administration. In 1979, the roof collapsed from heavy snows. It was rebuilt with private donations.
