Certainly in this unprecedented year, the sight of any form of 'timber' train albeit empty is unusual in the North West, so this had to be recorded. Cloas 70809 approaches Chapel Lane bridge, Acton Bridge with 6F56 08.52hrs Newton Abbot - Carlisle e/KFA wagons. A question, is the yellow end of the loco compliant as it seems to a very much lighter shade of yellow compared with all the other TOC / FOC's? 30th July 2020.

Although the yard has remained largely the same there have been some changes, signals and yard box by the bridge, trackwork etc. This was one of those "grab" shots as l remember, was on a train stopping there when l saw the 46 leaving the yard and "bailed out".46's weren't common but did make sporadic appearances on x-London freight's.

In the early 90’s, the start up Southern California Regional Rail Authority (SCRRA) purchased 173 miles of active and abandoned right-of-way from Southern Pacific to form its rail network for Southern California’s future commuter rail agency, Metrolink. 67 of those miles were the Saugus Line which was fraught with numerous slow curves due to the limited advancements in earth moving equipment during its construction in the late 1880’s, and the main reason SP sold it off; and the fact it had the Palmdale cut-off which carried the lion’s share of traffic into the Los Angeles Basin.

On January 17, 1994, a major earthquake hit Southern California that caused the collapse of a key freeway interchange causing major gridlock for commuters traveling to and from the Antelope Valley. This in turn made Federal officials expedite new construction improvements on the line to help speed up travel times to the San Fernando Valley and Los Angeles. During these improvements, many of the lines’ curves were abandoned in favor of earth fills which helped improve travel time by over an hour.

Fast forward to 2013, where a long discarded insulator witnesses an eastbound UP aggregate train making its way to Vulcan’s Sun Valley Plant with material to help the ever growing demand for the many construction projects going on through Southern California.

Two BR electro-diesels, 73110/115, head north from the Southern Region towards Acton Wells Junction (headcode AE) on 26 July 1979. I noted at the time that load appeared to be coal, but looking at the picture now, it looks to be almost powder.

Any further information on the working is welcome!

A cold day to be out taking photos, but I did need a break from painting and Acton was close by and I hadn't been there in several years. Still sad.

Situated near the ancient village of Iron Acton (North of Bristol) Acton Court is said to be the most 'original' Tudor house in England. The major part of what remains of the standing building is the East Wing. It was constructed in just nine months by the owner, Nicholas Poyntz, to accommodate a visit by Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn during their summer Progress in 1535. It offers a rare example of early 16th century state apartments and some decorations which are said to be the finest of their kind in England. The Manor is open to the public.
