Sirmione and its peninsula are one of the most beautiful spots of Lake Garda. Its Roman castle is surrounded by a maze of narrow streets, all leading to the famous Boiola Springs that have turned this location into a famous spa resort.
There are hotels of every category, and all have special agreements with the spa. Holiday homes, camping sites, and farm holiday establishments complete the offer for tourists in Sirmione, which is one of the liveliest towns of Lake Garda.
Don’t forget to visit the Catullus Grottos with the striking remains of an ancient Roman villa, which was the largest noble palazzo at the time in Northern Italy. Going for a hike or taking a spin on a bike will let you appreciate and enjoy the many things that this town on Lake Garda has to offer. Several restaurants have menus featuring local fresh-water fish from the lake and the local wine named Lugana.

stormy weather (the pass just above my house is officially closed this morning, either due to high winds and/or possibly avalanche danger) means speedy progress on my Versal sweater — fabulous pattern, and i’m in love with this "Geggamoja" silvery-natural-brown color of nutiden unspun yarn, it’s so incredibly silky to work with…
What to do with 20g of this flour,80g of that, and so on?
Throw them all together and make bread.
Although there was some 20% wholemeal in here I treated it all like white bread. Voilà you see the result. I'm especially pleased with the crunchy crust.
Mostly the beaches in August had only Thai people and the odd expat like me. I suspect they are busier now the rain has gone and the country has opened its borders again

A spectacularly fast moving column of Auroral light, off my front porch, late April.
The fact that the Aurora is the most intense and reliably active near the equinoxes , despite it being one of the great mysteries surrounding the entire Auroral phenomena, seems to receive strangely little discussion. Most people who express a desire to experience this spectacle, and especially the increasing abundance of tour companies which are springing up to facilitate Aurora viewing for visitors from more southerly latitudes, continue to equate active Auroras with the coldest, darkest, depths of winter, which is something of an error, since midwinter often brings at least a mild lull in the frequency and intensity of Aurorae, although the scientific basis of this remains unknown. This coming Spring (particularly mid-March thru late April (2013) promises to be an especially rewarding time for northern skywatchers, since the usual peak of Northern Lights activity will combine with the circumpolar passage of what is, at this point, likely to be an especially bright comet. Comet Panstarrs, discovered over a year ago, and still out beyond the orbit of Jupiter, is brightening more rapidly than expected. Although it's not known whether this comet has previously visited the inner solar system, and comets are generally unpredictable, this cosmic snowball should , if current trends continue, sport a nice naked eye tail,( probably a double, gas/dust tail similiar to that of C/Hale Bopp, 1997 ) , due to it's expected orbital geometry) and exceed the planet Venus in it's total brightness. Unfortunately the interloper will remain in the southern sky, or very low in the northern sky, until around the time of it's closest passage in March, after which it will swerve high into the northern sky. There's every reason to hope that this coming April will present a rare and wonderful opportunity to view and photograph the gossamer tail of a comet surrounded by brilliant curtains of Auroral light. Predictions of this sort are risky, but I've been at this sort of thing more than half my life and I'm feeling very optimistic ....

Peter Max is one of the more interesting artists to emerge from the 60's. Sad to say things have not been groovy for him lately.
