Here’s my Lammily doll on a Triad Toys Alpha body with her original hands swapped onto it, and her hair has been boil washed and conditioned to lay flat. While I really wanted to fully repaint her, I actually like her as is on this articulated body since she’s so judgey and condescending, and looks exactly like the doll in Lammily’s advertising.

Active Assignment Weekly - Surrealism.

Wow - this is a tough assignment as I can't do double exposure with my camera, and I don't have Photoshop or any such fancy thing. So, I have played about with what I have.

The Active Learning Center (ALC), formerly known as the ME-EM "Fishbowl." has been completely transformed into a technology-rich collaborative learning space, featuring 72 student computer stations, three instructor stations and 29 collaboration LCD monitors hung from the ceiling.

Smiling active father and mother with kid on bicycles having fun in park.

An "Active Travel" fingerpost. The Town Centre "finger" is directing you due north up a steep slope covered with brambles and trees, on into the dense Church Wood. Were you to slavishly follow this sign like a trucker and his satnav, you would be heading in the direction of Pontypool. The town centre is actually straight on down Maendy Way, to the south east.

"Active Travel" finger posts are now sprouting up in Torfaen. The Welsh Government introduced the Active Travel (Wales) Act 2013 which makes it a legal requirement for local authorities in Wales to map and plan for suitable routes for active travel within certain settlements in the county borough as specified by the Welsh Government. This is Torfaen County Borough Council's compliance with the act. The routes are designed for walkers and cyclists to carry out everyday short-distance journeys, such as journeys to school, work, or for access to shops or services. Active travel does not include journeys purely made for recreation or social reasons.

The legislation is, in my opinion, fatally flawed. Since it is for "everyday short-distance journeys, such as journeys to school, work, or for access to shops or services" surely people using these routes already know how to get to work, school, shops etc.? Sounds like more Nanny State thinking to me.

Our Active Learning Classroom (ALC) is designed to support interactive and technology enhanced learning. It serves as an incubation space where faculty can implement and assess new teaching and learning ideas.

The classroom is capable of numerous configurations; with computer stations at each table and multiple wall-mounted screens. The purpose of the ALC is to offer active, engaged teaching and learning experiences in a collaborative environment.

Soviet film actress Iya Savvina (1936-2011) was named a People's Artist of the USSR in 1990. She appeared in 30 films following her star turn as Anna Sergeyevna in Iosif Kheifets's Dama s sobachkoy/The Lady with the Little Dog (1960).

Iya Sergeyevna Savvina (Russian: Ия Серге́евна Саввина) was born in 1936 in in Voronezh, Russia, Soviet Union (now Russia). She was not a professionally trained actress. In 1958, she graduated from the Department of Journalism of the Moscow State University. While a student, Savvina was active in student drama club of the university. There she was spotted by casting directors from Lenfilm studios and made her film debut in Leningrad. She had her breakthrough as Anna Sergeyevna opposite Aleksey Batalov in Dama s sobachkoy/The Lady with the Little Dog (Iosif Kheifets, 1960), based on the story by Anton Chekhov. The film was entered into the 1960 Cannes Film Festival. Next she starred in the drama Krotkaya (Aleksandr Borisov, 1960), based on the short story A Gentle Being by Fyodor Dostoevsky. From 1960 till 1977, Savvina was a member of the Mossoveta theatre in Moscow. In the cinema, she played the leading role in Istoriya Asi Klyachinoy, kotoraya lyubila, da ne vyshla zamuzh/The Story of Asya Klyachina, (Andrei Konchalovsky,1966). Shown briefly in 1967 under the title Asya's Happiness, it was not released widely until 1987 when it was hailed (by Michail Gorbachev as a long lost classic of Soviet cinema. Savvina played Dolly in Anna Karenina (Aleksandr Zarkhi, 1967) based on the novel of the same name by Leo Tolstoy. The film, starring Tatiana Samoilova as Anna Karenina and Vasili Lanovoy as Vronsky, was listed to compete at the 1968 Cannes Film Festival, but the festival was cancelled due to the events of May 1968 in France. Savvina then played another supporting part in the war film Sluzhili dva tovarishcha/Two Comrades Were Serving (Yevgeni Karelov, 1968) starring Oleg Yankovsky. The film tells about the Russian civil war, in particular, the battle for the Crimean peninsula.

In Russia, Iya Savvina is also known for providing the voice of the Piglet in the Soviet animation version of Winnie-the-Pooh. Vinni-Pukh/Winnie-the-Pooh (Fyodor Khitruk, 1969). The short film is based on chapter one in the book series by A. A. Milne. It is the first part of a trilogy, along with two sequels: Vinni-Pukh idyot v gosti/Winnie-the-Pooh Pays a Visit (Fyodor Khitruk, 1971) and Vinni-Pukh i den zabot/Winnie-the-Pooh and a Busy Day (Fyodor Khitruk, 1972). Savvina was a prominent actress by then, and director Fyodor Khitruk invited her merely to review his initial work, because he knew that Savvina was a big fan of the Winnie-the-Pooh story. Her records had to be sped up to change the tone of her voice (the same technique was used for the main character). Then, she reunited with director Andrei Konchalovsly for the musical romantic drama Romans o vlyublyonnykh/A Lover's Romance (Andrei Konchalovsky, 1974). Since 1977, Iya Savvina worked for the Moscow Art Theatre (MKhAT). She made her best known stage appearances in Anton Chekhov's classic plays. She shone as Anfisa in Tri Sestry (The Three Sisters), and as Sharlotta in Vishnevy sad (The Cherry Orchard). Savvina was also a notable memoirist and cinema scholar who wrote about her colleagues Faina Ranevskaya, Mikhail Ulyanov, Lyubov Orlova and others. Her later films include the comedy Garazh/The Garage (Eldar Ryazanov, 1980), the fantasy Slyozy kapali/Tears Were Falling (Georgiy Daneliya, 1982), a modern interpretation of the fairy tale The Snow Queen by Hans Christian Andersen, and the drama Chastnaya zhizn/Private Life (Yuli Raizman, 1982), which was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 1982. Her final film was Slushaya tishinu/Listen to the silence (Aleksandr Kasatkin, 2007). In 1990, Savvina was designated People's Actress of the USSR. She was awarded the State Prize of the USSR twice (1983, 1990), and received numerous awards from the Soviet and Russian government. In 2011, Iya Savvina passed away in Moscow. She was 75. Savvina had been married to Vsevolod Shestakov, a prominent geologist and amateur stage actor. Their son Sergey was born in 1957 with the Down syndrome, yet became a professional graphical artist and Russian-English translator. They divorced in 1974. In August 2011, two weeks before her death of skin cancer, Iya married her long-time companion, Anatoly Vasilyev, with whom she had a relationship for more than 30 years.

The CARES Program will help the government in implementing its pandemic response plan the National Relief Program to respond to public health emergencies and to mitigate adverse economic and social impacts caused by the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. The program will extend support to the poor and vulnerable to withstand the pandemic's adverse impact on their livelihoods through food assistance and employment support. It will pay special attention to establishing gender-segregated hospital units and facilities, and ensuring that additional incentives are extended to women health workers. Further, the program will increase women's resilience to the pandemic's economic shocks. It will promote resilience to external shocks and strengthen public service delivery, especially in the health sector, contributing to a reduction in shared health risks. The program facilitates the government's mapping of the poor and vulnerable populations for effective food distribution and other relief service delivery.

The Active Badge was conceived, design and prototyped between 1989 and 1992. The small device, worn by a user, transmits a unique infrared signal every ten seconds. Locations within a building are equipped with one or more networked sensors that detect these transmissions. The location of the badge and its wearer is determined by the information provided by these sensors. In its original form, the badge transmitted a unique five-bit code every fifteen seconds. Successive versions expanded the functionality and address-space size of the badge, and incorporated a small microprocessor, offering bi-directional communication and a 48-bit address. A simpler version was designed for tagging equipment, and location to the desk scale, rather than the office scale, was achieved by using low-powered radio fields. One of PARC's active badges notifies computer researchers when a fresh pot of coffee is brewed.

Staying Active During Winter

Staying Active During Winter: Staying Active During Winter

Winter Often Takes a Toll on Exercise Levels

Winter stretches longer than it seems and without realizing activity levels take a dip. When it’s too cold to be exercising outside, it’s important to remember there are still plenty of creative options to stay active indoors. This article will outline a few indoor exercise ideas to incorporate during the winter in order to stay active and healthy.

Indoor, Low Resource Options

Taking a stroll outside when the weather is nice is a low resource option. To replace this activity during the winter can be difficult so here are a few exercise options that are specifically low material. If you are already listening to Christmas tunes then go ahead and turn the listening party into a dance party. Whether alone or with family and friends it is a simple way to crank up the music and intentionally enter into a cardio workout. Without realizing this will get your heart rate going and make the indoors a place of easy access exercise. Another example of this is to do living room workouts with YouTube videos, exercise DVD’s, or another streaming service that streams exercise videos. This can require no equipment or dumbbells or resistance bands. Others can join in as well! Another creative idea is turning chores into a game. When wiping counters incorporate a few arm presses, when dusting try and do five squats after each piece of furniture is dusted.

Indoor Exercises at a Gym

During the winter is a great time to take advantage of an indoor gym. While there are plenty of exercise classes, hot yoga, regular yoga, spin class, rowing, and tai chi are great options. Some of these can even be found on a streaming service and done at home. But if an in-person experience is your preference than most gyms have these slow moving but high health impact classes. Tai chi for example is a low impact exercise that combines slow movements with deep breathing techniques. It can improve cardiovascular health, reduce stress and anxiety, ease back pain, and improve balance. Perhaps one of the best total health exercises to keep in mind this winter is swimming. While this does require a pool it the easiest on the body than other exercises and it incorporates good breathing habits, stretching, which reduces stiffness, and other total body impacts, such as reducing back and joint pains.

Freedom Home Care Can Help

Whatever your exercise preference might be this winter feel free to get creative with family and friends or tap into Freedom Home Care’s personalized caregivers as a resource to help set a workout up at home. Staying active is important during the winter, so even if you’re stuck at home or indoors, don’t forget that a workout can happen anytime, anywhere.

Notes: Alexandre-Pierre-Thomas-Amable Marie de Saint Georges, known as Marie, was a minister in the provisional government. "It is necessary to have at the head of the capitol, as at the head of the country, first of all an imposing government. I demand that a provisional government be constituted." Mounting the tribune of the chamber of deputies with these words, on February 24, 1848, Marie was one of the first to oppose the regency of the Duchess d'Orleans. The words proclaim his credentials as a "républican de la veille" and an important player within the moderate faction of the Provisional Government.

Antoine Samuel Adam-Salomon (9 January 1818 – 28 April 1881 was a French sculptor and photographer. Antoine Samuel Adam-Salomon was born to a French Jewish family on 9 January 1818 in La Ferté-sous-Jouarre, Seine-et-Marne, France. Following a brief career as a modeler for the Jacob Petit pottery factory in Fontainebleau, he received a scholarship to study sculpture in Paris. He also traveled for studies to Switzerland and England. His notable sculptures include busts of Victor Cousin, Odilon Barrot, Pierre-Jean de Béranger, Alphonse de Lamartine, Gioachino Rossini, and Marie Antoinette. After becoming established as a sculptor, Adam-Salomon studied photography under the portraitist Franz Hanfstaengl in Munich in 1858. He became a leading portrait photographer. Adam-Salomon returned to Paris where he opened a portrait studio in 1859; in 1865 he opened a second Paris studio. In 1870 Adam-Salomon was made a member of the Société française de photographie and received the Légion d’honneur the same year. Adam-Salomon's portrait photographs were considered to be among the best existing works during his lifetime, and were renowned for their chiaroscuro produced by special lighting techniques. The photography of Adam-Salomon played a pivotal role in the mainstream acceptance of photography as an art form. For example, in 1858 the poet Alphonse de Lamartine described photography as "this chance invention which will never be art, but only a plagiarism of nature through a lens." A short time later, after seeing the photographs by Adam-Solomon, Lamartine changed his opinion.

Lorna Vanderhaeghe Active Collagen

Over one-quarter of all the protein in the body is made up of collagen. Collagen is the protein that makes your bones, nails, teeth and hair strong. Collagen is also the main structural component of skin. Starting in our early 20s, however, collagen production declines by about one percent a year. Women in menopause are especially susceptible to collagen decline. Women lose as much as 30 percent of their skin collagen in the !ve years following menopause. And as if that is not bad enough, skin elasticity declines 0.55 percent per year after menopause.

The effects of slowed collagen production are visibly obvious when skin loses its structure, sags and wrinkles. A second yet equally important component of skin is called elastin. Elastin fibers form a matrix with collagen; together they allow the skin to flex and move. When we are young, the skin naturally renews its collagen and elastin. But with age, and as exposure to sun and environmental toxins damages the skin, this renewal rate slows down. Fortunately, it is possible to support collagen and elastic production. Sourced from European waters to meet the highest standards of purity, Active Collagen is a marine ingredient composed of collagen and elastin polypeptides present in the same ratio that is naturally found in skin.

Active Collagen has a synergistic anti-wrinkle action: when taken orally, collagen and elastin stimulate the skin to lift and tone sagging areas and minimize lines and wrinkles.Active Collagen can also increase the moisture level of dry skin and fight aging related to free radical damage. Active Collagen polypeptides have a low molecular weight, making it water-soluble and easily absorbed by the body. In a study of 43 women between the ages of 40 and 55 with crow's feet wrinkles, consumption of Active Collagen was found to decrease lines and wrinkles as well as to increase skin moisture.

Benefits:

Reduces the depth of deep wrinkles

Lifts and tones sagging areas

Increases skin moisture

Protects against free radical sun damage to skin

Works fast with excellent clinical research

Improves hair thickness

Improves bone mineral density and joint disease

Stops brittle nails

Enhances collagen and elastin in 28 days

Range Distribution

Snowy Egrets mainly breed along the coasts, from Oregon and Maine southward, but also in scattered inland sites where suitable wetlands are found. Common in states bordering the Gulf of Mexico, they can also be found in the Caribbean and Central and South America. Their wintering grounds are located along the Atlantic Coast to southern New Jersey, and down into the Bahamas, Cuba, and the Greater Antilles; as well as from the Gulf and Pacific coasts south into Central America.

A legend for the range map to the right can be found here.

Habitat

Snowy Egrets forage in many types of aquatic habitats, both freshwater and marine. In North America, they generally prefer shallow, sheltered estuarine sites. These feeding areas include salt marsh pools, tidal channels, shallow bays, and mangroves. In the Caribbean, winter migrants nest and roost in mangroves. Snowy Egrets throughout Central America favor lowland areas near freshwater swamps, lakes, and the mouths of large rivers. Birds in South American prefer coastal mangroves, mudflats, and swamps.

Feeding

The Snowy Egret's varied diet is composed primarily of fish and crustaceans, but also includes snails, snakes, lizards, worms, and both aquatic and terrestrial insects. The bird is an active hunter and employs a greater repertoire of foraging behaviors than any other North American heron. Rather than simply standing still or walking slowly to ambush prey, Snowy Egrets dash through shallow water, quickly changing direction, and using their feet to flush prey from hiding places. Food is also captured through pecking, slow walking, hopping, hovering, dipping, and other "disturb and chase" behaviors.

Reproduction

Breeding takes place in colonies, typically with other egrets and herons. These mixed-species rookeries are often located in isolated, estuarine habitats. Males select nest sites and engage in courtship displays accompanied by loud, raucous calls to attract mates. Common displays include the "stretch," in which the male pumps his body up and down with his bill pointed towards the sky; plume-raising; and circling and tumbling flights. Once pairing takes place, females join in on sexual displays to maintain the pair bond. The female is the primary builder of the nest--a platform of woven twigs and small sticks situated either on the ground or as high as 30 feet up in the trees. The three to six pale green-blue eggs are incubated by both sexes for about 24 days. The chicks usually fledge two weeks after hatching. Young reach reproductive maturity after one to two years.

Migration

A partially migratory species, the Snowy Egret relocates from its northernmost breeding habitats in North America to its winter ranges in the southern United States, Mexico, Central America, South America, the West Indies, and Bermuda. The birds begin their northward migration in early March, then depart again in September for their wintering areas. Birds in parts of Florida, along the southern coastlines, and in the Pacific lowlands are year-round residents.

In observance of National Conflict Resolution Day, 4th graders at Findley Elementary swapped thoughts on the topic of peace with Academy Award winning actor and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Peace and Reconciliation, Forest Whitaker this morning.

From half a world away working on a film about apartheid in Capetown, South Africa, Whitaker reached his friends at Findley via the magic of Skype.

After a rehearsal of sorts instead of breakfast, the whole group took a collective deep breath. Several excited kids peeled off for last-second bathroom breaks. Then, right on schedule at 9:00 A.M. Des Moines time and 4:00 P.M. Capetown time, the connection was made.

Forest and Findley have been getting to know one another since last spring when the school was one of eight nationwide selected by the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities to participate in a new arts education initiative to help turn around low-performing schools, developed in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Education and the White House Domestic Policy Council. Turnaround Arts is a public-private partnership designed to narrow the achievement gap and improve student engagement through the arts.

Research demonstrates a strong correlation between access to arts education and better grades, increased creativity, higher rates of college enrollment and graduation as well as higher aspirations and civic engagement. When students participate in the arts they are four times more likely to be recognized for academic achievement, have higher GPAs and SAT scores and show significantly higher levels of mathematics proficiency. They are also more likely to be engaged and cooperative with teachers and peers and are more self-confident and better able to express their ideas. These benefits are particularly pronounced in high-poverty, low-performing schools.

Last year at Findley, 92% of the students qualified for free-and-reduced-price meals. Whitaker can relate. He told the kids that he grew up poor and had to work to convince himself that his dreams could come true.

Findley principal Tara Owens told him that the school’s theme for the year is “Dream Big.”

“Peace starts with yourself,” Whitaker said when he was asked what peace means to him. “It works outward toward other people. Peace is an attitude.”

When nine year-old (“almost ten”) Brianna Shelton asked Whitaker if he likes who he is and being famous he told her that he makes a point of loving himself. He said he has learned to find joy in challenge. “As for being famous, that was never the goal. I just wanted to become an artist,” he said. “My job is great because I’m always studying and learning for the parts I play.”

One offshoot of the Turnaround Arts program at Findley is a popular Drama Club that meets weekly. Theater students from Drake University come over to work with the students. 65 kids in grades 2-5 are actively involved. By the time Whitaker comes to meet them in the flesh next May, who knows what they’ll have to show him? In the meantime Findley and Forest agreed to keep in regular touch. Owens told him to “call” anytime.

After they hung up it was time for a late breakfast for the 4th graders. And some lively table talk about their faraway, but closer now, friend.
