The spring haven't arrived yet to Finland. No blooming to be seen so i haven't been very active with photography lately. This LE shot is from last summer. Sadly my Canon 50D's noise control even with 400 iso is crappy and i have hard time to create pleasing results with it. Even with photoshop i cant seem to fix the problems often. I now days mainly just stick to 50d+sigma 50mm f.1.4 combo, which i love. Take care!

Taking a temporary break from images of Germany to bring some local ones taken yesterday.
Mt. St. Helens, which last erupted 36 years ago and is rebuilding itself with a lava dome inside the crater, ( which eventually will form her new top ) and lot of new growth, including an abundance of wildflowers this year.

LUCKY OPPORTUNITY to photograph one of these Slim and Savage predators, active by day and night, it relentlessly tracks down its prey by scent. It often kills prey more than twice its size, biting deeply into the neck.

This bird is also known as the King Cormorant or the Phalacrocorax atriceps albiventer in latin... LOL! I am glad I do not have to remember these latin names. It is the larger of the two cormorant resident species of the Falklands. Apparently Rockhopper Penguins like to establish their nests in mixed colonies with Imperial Shags, as the Shags are actively defending their nests from predators and give a hard time to skuas and other birds trying to steal their eggs, something I was able to witness on several occasions and sadly enough sometimes on an ongoing basis... :(
According to the Partners in Flight database (2019), the American robin is the most abundant landbird in North America. The species is active mostly during the day and assembles in large flocks at night. Its diet consists of invertebrates (such as beetle grubs, earthworms, and caterpillars), fruits, and berries.
Premier sport fish are bred and raised at Gaden Trout Hatchery. The Gaden Trout Hatchery, located on the Thredbo River near Jindabyne, is one of Australia's main centres for breeding and rearing cold water sport fish. Four species of fish are produced at Gaden: Atlantic salmon, brook trout, brown trout, and rainbow trout. Visitors can view feeding of the big fish that come to the surface in some of the brood stock ponds, watch a 10 minute video that outlines the purpose and operations of the hatchery, and go for a walk around the grounds with one of the experienced hatchery staff. Guided tours of the hatchery are conducted 10am and 2pm daily. Gaden Trout Hatchery has over one hectare of parkland on the banks of the Thredbo River. 27564

The American Goldfinch is the only member of the finch family that undergoes any plumage changes during the year. Their plumage becomes less colourful in fall and winter.
They prefer a habitat of open country where they can forage on the many weed seeds they consume with some brush and trees nearby for shelter and nesting. Other than the breeding season they are very social and will flock with numerous other species.
Being the very active and acrobatic little songbirds they are we often see them clinging to weed seed heads especially thistles. Because they are heavy seed eaters they nest later in the summer than other species supposedly so they have a plentiful supply of late summer seeds for their chicks. Their young mature very quickly leaving the nest in only 11 to 17 days after hatching.

An unguided hydrogen-alpha image of a very active afternoon sun taken today with a ZWOASI224MC planetary camera and an IR cut filter attached to a Coronado Personal Solar Telescope. Five images were stacked using Registax and then processed with Gimp and Adobe Lightroom.
Vatnajökull is the largest glacier in Iceland and also - outside the polar region - the largest in Europe. A plateau glacier in the south-east of the country.
Area around 7,700 km², about 8% of the area of Iceland. The volume of ice is estimated at over 3,000 km³.
Some of the island's most active volcanoes lie beneath the glacier and between them is a valley about 500 to 800 m deep.
The thickness of the ice layer is up to 1,000m.

Deadman's Harbour is a quaint and active fishing village, offering a wonderful view of the Bay of Fundy viewed from New Brunswick's mainland.

Those annoying lens flares got in the picture, but I was really excited for the result. Hope you enjoyed this as much as I did making it.

This shot is of a small stream. The leaves on the left side are several inches under water, the leaves on the right are floating on top of the water, the water itself is reflecting the bare trees that once nurtured these leaves.
The Bald Eagles were very active again this morning. There must have been 50 eagles sitting in the trees around the lake and river.
There were also LOTS of Seagulls. When they all suddenly turn and fly the same way. you know an eagle is coming. In this way, they can be helpful finding incoming eagles. But they sure can clutter up a shot!! I have so many eagle shots ruined by photobombing Seagulls!
The snow from our big 2 1/2 inch snowstorm is nearly gone.
