Active volcano Bromo - one of the most popular volcanoes in Indonesia. The crater Bromo is much easier to look, than other craters of volcanoes. Together with other calmer volcanoes fumed Bromo is a spectacular sight from the lookout on Mount Penandzhakan.

Bromo is an active volcano in Indonesia, part of the Tenger volcanic complex. Located in the east of Java. It has a height of 2392 meters. Bromo Volcano is a part of the Bromo-Tengger-Semeru National Park. The volcano has been in a state of constant activity for the last 20 years, its crater is filled with smoke from active fumaroles.

After a stormy sort of day, this one appeared early evening over Bracebridge Heath.

An active thunderstom over Louisville CO shows off its inner glow with multiple cloud to cloud lightning strikes. An airplane flying towards the storm makes a turn away as indicated by the the line of double dots in the lower left quadrant. The orange-y glow in the sky is from the lights of Denver to the right.

Thunderstorms have been abundant thus far in eastern Colorado, even before the arrival of the t-storm season associated with the summer monsoon. Precipitation is already around 80% of the annual average with half the year to go.

Tiny, active, warbler-like bird of tropical and subtropical forest edge, woodland, and gardens. Feeds on nectar and fruit, and in some areas visits bird feeders. Variable plumage across range, especially in the Caribbean, but always note small size and sharp, slightly decurved bill. Most populations have a bold white eyebrow and yellow underparts. Throat color varies from pale gray on mainland (Mexico to South America) to white on some island populations (including Cozumel) or sooty gray (Greater Antilles). Some birds in the Lesser Antilles are entirely black. Song is variable across range but usually high-pitched and scratchy. (eBird)

Dante wrote the Comedy out of the one compulsion, that is, simply for truth’s sake – for truth’s sake you write theology because there is something that needs saying that calls for it, and you write poetry because that is the only way truthfully to say it.

My first view of the Avenue of the Volcanoes at 6:52 am (a 4h58m climb) from the Refugio (Hut).

There are several volcanoes, but the most striking are the Chimborazo on your right (I will climb it tomorrow), the highest in the world and Cotopaxi, the second highest volcano in Ecuador (I climbed it in the first 24 hours).

Climbing an active volcano is complicated.

The crater is just below me. It took years for the Ecuadorian government to release climbing permits.

Me knowing the risks and signing the papers. It is a great pleasure for Pachamama to accept me, agradiseyki.

Tungurahua 5,023 metres (16,480 ft) is located in the Cordillera Oriental of the Andes of central Ecuador, 140 kilometres (87 mi) south of the capital Quito.

Nearby notable mountains are Chimborazo (6,310 metres (20,700 ft)) and El Altar (5,319 metres (17,451 ft)). It rises above the small thermal springs town of Baños de Agua Santa (1,800 metres (5,900 ft)) which is located at its foot 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) to the north.

Other nearby towns are Ambato (30 kilometres (19 mi) to the northwest), Baños and Riobamba (30 kilometres (19 mi) to the southwest).

Tungurahua is part of the Sangay National Park.

Out this moring at sunrise to photography the Osprey activity. Had to wait a couple of hours as there was a heavy fog this Saturday moring. But once the fog lifted and the blue skies appeared the Ospreys were active like these two were on the grounds of Fort Pickens on the West end of Pensacola Beach Florida. For the shots today I used the Sony A9 with the Sony FE 200-600mm F5.6-6.3 G OSS lens. Be safe!

A bird's eye view of Deadman's Harbour, New Brunswick, Canada.

Go red this February and join in the fun for National Heart Month.

2011 is the British Heart Foundation's 50th birthday, so what better time to join the celebrations? Get involved in Red for Heart to help raise funds for their vital work.

The BHF is the nation's heart charity. Their vision is a world where people don't die prematurely from heart disease. They look to achieve this through pioneering research, vital prevention activity and ensuring quality care and support for everyone living with heart disease.

There's lots you can do to keep your heart healthy - whatever your age. Taking exercise, eating a healthy diet, encouraging children to be heart healthy and being aware of dangers such as smoking, drinking and high blood pressure.

Prevention really is better than cure. People of all ages who are physically active are half as likely to get cardiovascular disease as those that are inactive. And a healthy diet helps to reduce your risk of developing heart disease, or if you've already got heart problems it will help to protect your heart.

A view of Active Pass from Bluffs Park on Galiano Island

Big Sur, California

A rocky section of the Pacific coast, typical of the Big Sur coast.

When an ocean’s coast coincides with active tectonic plate boundaries, you get what the geologists call an active margin. Rocky shores and coastal mountain ranges such as found along the Pacific Coast are the usual result. Long sandy beaches are a relative rarity along such coasts and are more commonly found along passive margins such as the Atlantic coast of North America.

This shot is of a small stream. The leaves on the left side are several inches under water, the leaves on the right are floating on top of the water, the water itself is reflecting the bare trees that once nurtured these leaves.

We had a lovely conversation with the leaseholders of this property. Their life lease will run until the passing of the youngest family member alive at the time of the original lease in the 1930s.

While chatting with them, we were paddling upwind to stay near their dock. Of course the wind died down before it could help our return paddle.

AAW November 11-18: Artificial Light

WIT: This was taken indoors and it was dark outside, so the only light was the overhead light. Had to boost the ISO for this. Also had to use a relatively low shutter speed, which resulted in the motion blur with the toy vehicle. i am fortunate that my camera can take relatively high ISO shots without too much noise. Converted to bw to get rid of the colourful distractions.

Those annoying lens flares got in the picture, but I was really excited for the result. Hope you enjoyed this as much as I did making it.

I was hoping for some more eastbounds in the earlier morning light up on the bluffs, but the closest things were a couple of Zs working at Midway. Naturally, when I decided to move and go for an intercept I missed one; but I still added a new angle to the collection.

The first Z is done with its work at the St. Paul Intermodal Facility and is easing down the hill and through the plant at the Jackson Street control point and is about to pass under Phalen Blvd.

Late evening cloud formation that is definitely on the boil

At the Jaggar Museum in Volcanoes National Park you can view the main active crater on the Big Island of Hawaii. At night the glow of the magma bubbling up becomes apparent. During the day you get beautiful rainbows over the barren landscape.
