Ashala's account

- Asha's first account

It's Guardian Angels day today 02/10/22 so I thought it would be an opportunity to use one of Asha's last photoshoots shot just a few weeks before she passed away. The background is her Ballywhiskin Beach. When I read up on this Guardian Angels Day I was surprised that the Catholic church and other faiths believed in Guardian Angels. I just thought this was something authors created to sell books as I only remember Angels from the bible being more warriors and not what I personally associate angels to be. I have always believed in guardian angels, but I just thought this was my own personal view and not a bibical view. So it was lovely to read that the Church believe in guardian angels. Now I have my own guardian angel who is called Asha.

Surveys have shown that close to 75% of Americans believe in guardian angels. Guardian Angels Day, also known as Guardian Angel Day, is for giving recognition and thanks to the guardian angels in our life, and to do something special to recognize them. It is a day to learn about the role that guardian angels have played in our lives, as well as to learn about the roles they have played in different cultures and religions.

Today also is an official day of the Catholic Church, known as Memorial of the Holy Guardian Angels or the Feast of Guardian Angels. This Catholic festival is celebrated on October 2 each year and is a day to thank God for one's guardian angels. Local celebrations of guardian angels date to the eleventh century CE, and the belief that every human had a guardian angel was widespread in the Catholic church by the twelfth century. The feast was first observed in 1500, by the Franciscan Order.

In 1608, Pope Paul V officially authorized the feast. It originally was a supplement of sorts to the Feast of Saint Michael. In the 1670s, Pope Clement X made October 2 the official date and made the day an obligatory double feast. Leo XIII made it a double major feast in 1883, and since 1976 it has been ranked as an obligatory memorial.

According to Catholic belief, both Christians and non-Christians have a guardian angel assigned to them, that gives them guidance throughout their lives. Guardian angels are from the lowest rank of angels. The angels protect their assigned person from demons and encourage them to do good works. Everyone is reunited with their guardian angel when they reach heaven.

According to beliefs throughout the world, guardian angels may protect people, groups, kingdoms, or countries. The concept of guardian angels goes back to ancient Judaism; in the Hebrew Bible, angels sometimes were given missions to intervene in the affairs of humans, and they are mentioned as being guides and intercessors. Psalm 91:11 is often cited as evidence of guardian angels: "For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways."

The New Testament also mentions angels that go between God and man. By the fifth century CE, the belief in guardian angels was prevalent in Christianity. Belief in guardian angels is largely held in the Anglican Communion, and the Eastern Orthodox Church sees guardian angels as friends and protectors. The Catholic Church's beliefs are as described above. Many other Christian denominations, such as Lutherans and Methodists, have some form of belief in guardian angels.

In Islam, there is a belief in mu'aqqibat, which has to do with guardian angels. Some Muslims believe everyone has two guardian angels—one in front of them and one in back of them. In Zoroastrianism, each person has a guardian angel which guides them throughout their life. The belief in guardian angels crosses cultures and religions, and today everyone who believes in their power gives them thanks.

Excerpt from english.seoul.go.kr/city-hall/overview-city-hall/seoul-ci...:

After four years and five months of construction, Seoul City Hall was reborn in October 2012.

The new Seoul City Hall is an eco-friendly building with a unique exterior, the design of which is based on the eaves of traditional Korean houses. The total floor area of the city hall buildings is 90,743m², including the old City Hall building, which is now the Seoul Metropolitan Library. Government offices account for 62 percent of the area, and public spaces for citizens make up 38 percent. The building is highly efficient, as it is built with a double skin façade system. About 28.3 percent of the energy used in the building comes from eco-friendly energy sources, including photovoltaic, solar thermal and geothermal.

The Green Wall is the most popular attraction at the Seoul City Hall building. Spanning an area of 1516m², the size of a soccer field, this vertical garden climbs up the inner wall, all the way from the first to the seventh floor. It was named in the Guinness World Records as the largest vertical garden in the world.

Over 70,000 plants of 14 different species were planted in the garden over an eight-month period. They help to eliminate contaminants and fine dust and regulate the temperature and humidity. When visitors take the elevator or escalator from the Haneul Plaza on the ninth floor down to the first floor, where the double skin façade can be clearly seen, it feels like being inside a spaceship.

6 year old Thoroughbred broodmare. Take a look at her pedigree and you'll see that her female line traces back to the most influential broodmare of the 20th century, La Troienne:

www.pedigreequery.com/brokerage+account

From Wikipedia...

"She produced fourteen foals and 12 of them raced. 10 of those 12 were winners. The first of these was the Champion Black Helen, by Black Toney, born in 1932. Black Helen won the American Derby, the Florida Derby, the Maryland Handicap, and the Coaching Club American Oaks. The second was born in 1934, Biologist, by Bubbling Over who won the 1926 Kentucky Derby. The third was Baby League, born in 1935, again by Bubbling Over, who became the dam of four stakes winners: the great Hall of Fame filly Busher, as well as Mr. Busher, Striking, and Harmonizing. Her fourth winning foal was Big Hurry, another Black Toney filly, born in 1936, and the dam of five stakes winners: Be Fearless, Bridal Flower, The Admiral, Great Captain, and Searching. La Troienne also brought forth the great Hall of Fame colt Bimelech, born in 1937. By Black Toney, Bimlech won the Belmont Stakes, the Preakness Stakes, and placed in the 1940 Kentucky Derby. Big Event came next in 1938, a Blue Larkspur filly and dam of stakes winner Hall of Fame. In 1939, she dropped Businesslike who was the dam of two stakes winners: Busanda (who was the dam of Buckpasser) and Auditing. Then came Besieged by Balladier in 1940, Broke Even in 1941, a colt by Blue Larkspur, Back Yard in 1942, a gelding by Balladier, and in 1944 Bee Ann Mac by Blue Larkspur. Belle Histoire came along in 1945, once more by Blue Larkspur. Belle Histoire was the dam of stakes winner Royal Record. La Troienne's last two foals were Belle of Troy in 1947, again by Blue Larkspur, and the gelding Trojan War in 1948 by Shut Out.

Les Brinsfield, a pedigree expert, wrote: "Anyone who wants can take any daughter of La Troienne (or all of them) and trace them through pedigrees to today's stars. It will be a rare week when there is no stakes winner linebred to La Troienne.""

Donald Mitchell Healey (DMH to friends and fans) was, by all accounts, one of the truly great characters of the motor industry. A pilot in World War I, DMH took to motor racing and rally in the '20s. By the mid-1930s he was designing and driving rally cars for Triumph, and won several important international events. When war broke out in 1939, he devoted himself to the war efforts.

At the conclusion of hostilities, DMH and family (especially his sons, Geoff and Bic) resumed making sports cars, this time under the Healey name. Their first effort, the Healey Silverstone, had an advanced chassis design and simple, aerodynamic bodywork. Lacking the resources (spelled "cash") to develop their own engines, the Healeys used the interesting and reasonably sporting Riley 2-liter twin-cam OHV engine. (Yes, you read that right: two cams, down in the block, each operating a separate bank of pushrods working the rockers of overhead valves.)

But like all racers, DMH wanted more power. The biggest news in the motoring world in those days was the 165-bhp Cadillac OHV V8, a comparatively light-weight and high-revving engine with great low-end torque and tremendous potential for making a light, good-handling chassis go very fast. DMH built at least one prototype, using a privately purchased Cadillac V8, which fitted nicely into the Silverstone chassis. (I have been fortunate enough to see this car. And again, that's not "one of these cars," it's "this one.")

So DMH took a steamship from England to the U.S., intending to strike a deal with Cadillac for several V8 engines.

On the way he met George Romney, president of the Nash Motor Corporation based in Kenosha, Wisconsin. George and DMH hit it off from the start, and Romney said that if things didn't go according to plan, he should look him up.

Well, Cadillac didn't give DMH the time of day—too busy (and too important) to sell motors to some tinkerer. DMH decided that rather than make the trip a total loss, he should look into the Nash connection.

Well, Romney was as good as his word, and a deal was struck not only for engines, but for some development of a sports-racing car. The Nash-Healey ended up taking 3rd overall (behind two Mercedes 300SLs) at the 1952 24 Hours of Le Mans—an amazing achievement for a six-cylinder pushrod block, in spite of Nash's disappointment at not winning against the highly developed twin-cam racing engines.

The final piece in the puzzle was the acquisition of bodywork from Pininfarina, Italy's premiere coachbuilder at the time (and my own Pininfarina car is at my elbow, urging me to delete "at the time").

500 Nash-Healeys were built, in coupe form as shown here but more popularly in a roadster. The five cars shown at Forest Grove therefore represent one percent of all Nash-Healey production; no one at the concours knew how many still remain.

Classic film buffs may recall the original Sabrina, with Humphrey Bogart, Audrey Hepburn, and William Holden. Bogart is the sober-sided chairman of the board of a wealthy family's financial institution, and younger brother Holden is the fast-living cad who romances Hepburn. The car in which Holden drives her home from the train station is a Nash-Healey roadster.

Oh, and about that title: In 1959, DMH tried again to secure V8 power for his sports cars, and once more crossed the Atlantic, this time to meet with his longtime friend and fellow racer Carroll Shelby (who had just won the 24 Hours, driving an Aston Martin). DMH got the same response from Chevrolet as he had earlier received from Cadillac, and furthermore was chastised by British Motor Corporation (BMC) management for attempting to go outside the firm's own engine sources. So sadly, Shelby had to look elsewhere for the Anglo-American hybrid he was working on... a little car known as the Cobra, and a story that might have started as early as 1952 if General Motors had not already perfected the art of sticking their heads up their uncommonly tight fundamental apertures.

Honest, she did!!!!

Whilst searching for square format shots to upload to my Instagram account ( www.instagram.com/dgphotos.co.uk/ ) I realised this previously uploaded Blue Lagoon landscape would work well cropped to this format.

Click here to see more from my trip to Iceland : www.flickr.com/photos/darrellg/albums/72157650886963062

From Wikipedia : "The Blue Lagoon (Icelandic: Bláa lónið) geothermal spa is one of the most visited attractions in Iceland. The spa is located in a lava field in Grindavík on the Reykjanes Peninsula, southwestern Iceland. Bláa lónið is situated approximately 20 km (12 mi) from the Keflavík International Airport and 39 km (24 mi) from the capital city of Reykjavík, roughly a 20 minute drive from the airport and a 50 minute drive from Reykjavík.

The warm waters are rich in minerals like silica and sulfur and bathing in the Blue Lagoon is reputed to help some people suffering from skin diseases such as psoriasis. The water temperature in the bathing and swimming area of the lagoon averages 37–39 °C (99–102 °F). The Blue Lagoon also operates a research and development facility to help find cures for other skin ailments using the mineral-rich water.

The lagoon is a man-made lagoon which is fed by the water output of the nearby geothermal power plant Svartsengi and is renewed every two days. Superheated water is vented from the ground near a lava flow and used to run turbines that generate electricity. After going through the turbines, the steam and hot water passes through a heat exchanger to provide heat for a municipal water heating system. Then the water is fed into the lagoon for recreational and medicinal users to bathe in."

Saturday we went up to a lavender farm and checked out the lavender festival. More pics to follow (I hope)... Flickr keeps reminding me that my "pro" account ends today...

Anywho, the festival was tons o' fun. I bought dried lavender so I will be able to have some fun with still life images... I just couldn't resist. I also tried lavender lemonade. I must say it was wonderfully refreshing! I didn't know what to expect, but glad I took the "risk!"

Excerpt from en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K11_Art_Mall:

K11 Art Mall is a seven-storey shopping centre in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong located in The Masterpiece, developed by New World Development and completed in December 2009. It is near Tsim Sha Tsui and East Tsim Sha Tsui stations.

The K11 Art Mall has seven storeys (two underground, five above ground). The B1 and B2 storeys were opened on 27 November 2009, and the rest of the mall was opened on 5 December that year. Retail and restaurants accounted for 80 per cent and 20 per cent of the stores, respectively.

B2 is mainly international cuisine, women's fashion, shoes and cosmetics, with shops such as D-mop zone, Mousse, ISCOV, JILL SCOTT, Mirabell, and Milan. B1 is mainly daily necessities, including La Creation de Gute bakery, LensCrafters, AV Life, Dymocks bookstore, I Love Kitchen, Mannings, and Market Place by Jasons supermarket.

The ground floor has many high-end stores, including Longchamp, Tiffany by Soloman, Thann, the Italian brand Dormeuil, Y-3, D-mop, and Chow Tai Fook concept store. In the centre is a large plaza, called "The Piazza", that features a glass ceiling and a large LED screen.

Levels 1–3 have many boutiques, including AIGLE, KLASSE14, Laosmiddle, Levi's, Clarks, Fila, and mademoiselle. The mall also caters to Mainland customers, with several Mainland brand-name specialty stores such as Biba and imaroon.

There are restaurants on each floor of the mall, totaling over 20, including B2's Miso Cool and DALAT Vietnamese restaurant; The Piazza's Espressamente illy and awfully chocolate; and various others, such as AKU Japanese Restaurant, Al Pasha, Cool Gelato, Ginza Bairin and Pak Loh Chiu Chow Restaurant.

Northern Italy’s Po Valley is the most densely populated area in the country, accounting for nearly half of the national population. In this Sentinel-1A image, acquired on 24 April 2014, cities are visible along the bottom as bright radar reflections, lined along the main highway running left to right. Milan appears brightest on the left. Lake Garda, in the upper right, is Italy’s largest lake and third largest in the Alpine region.

This image is part of the exhibition at the National Museum of Science and Technology in Milan, Italy.

My Planet from Space: Fragility and Beauty takes you on a journey to some of the most beautiful and remote places on Earth.

Satellite eyes provide us with images of an ever-changing Earth: glaciers melting, sea levels rising, rainforests threatened by deforestation, growing desertification affecting croplands, and uncontrolled urban sprawl. They highlight the importance of spaceborne technology in the management and protection of natural resources and the global environment.

The exhibition has been organised to coincide with the Expo 2015, with particular focus on agriculture to highlight the Expo’s theme, ‘Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life’.

The exhibition runs 9 May to 10 January. For more information on visiting hours and tickets, see the museum website.

A history of Taormina.

Her name was Cheryl and she was 65, he was called Christopher and he was 59, they both came from Australia; before reaching Taormina, in Sicily, they had traveled far and wide in various European countries, finally they came to Italy to visit some cities of art and tourism such as Florence, Rome, Sorrento, Amalfi ... the reason for this great to wander? The answer will be known after their tragic ending: to look for a "beautiful place" where they can die ... They weren't married, they didn't behave like lovers or boyfriends do, they certainly were good friends, or maybe they were simply a so-called open couple. Physically and temperamentally they were the exact opposite: Cheryl was sunny, cheerful, decidedly nice, a little chubby, overweight, she loved to wear large handkerchiefs which she then tied on top of her head to form showy bows, Christopher instead was a bit skittish , closed and sad, of few words, thin, tall, with possibly gay attitudes, but both were very friendly, so much so that they had made friends above all with the hotel staff, indeed, to be honest, they made small gifts, they were objects of good workmanship that they had brought with them and bought somewhere, demonstrating their sincere attachment (they had chosen a famous hotel in Taormina, staying in a Junior Suite - Sea View, in Taormina they should have stayed a week, later they would go to Syracuse). On the day of departure, 02-October -2013, at 14.00, Cheryl and Christopher do not show up in the hall to hand over the keys to the room, with extreme embarrassment the assistant manager of the hotel and the housekeeper go to knock on their door , over and over again, and seeing that they do not answer, they open the door with the electronic passe-partout: as soon as they enter they see reflected in the mirror the shape of their bodies that appear stretched out in bed, motionless: quick and convulsive thousand questions pile up in the mind of the two women, the housekeeper is terrified and runs away, while the lady assistant director must be able to understand what is happening and approaches, what she sees is a surreal scene: they are clearly dead, lying and rigid on the bed, they are not hugging each other , however, they are lying next to each other, under them, to cover the blankets and sheets of the bed, they have placed a large sheet of cellophane, like the one used by painters, to prevent any the humors freed from lifeless bodies, could dirty; on the back of the bed hung a row of Halloween flags, with printed skulls, and, among these, other flags, those used for birthday parties, each with a letter forming the phrase "dance of death"; on the bedside table there were two empty bottles (200 - 300 ml), which each contained a lethal substance, there were keys (for the locks of the suitcases), and a letter, in which they reported their last wishes: they left the money to honor the hotel expenses, they donated the contents of their suitcases to the hotel, and finally asked forgiveness for the inconvenience that their extreme action would certainly have caused to the hotel. The scant news on the web at the time (all photocopies of a single article) reported that both suffered from serious health problems, but that was not the case, certainly there was some minor ailment, but nothing really serious and unsolvable. Cheryl and Cristopher now lie in the cemetery of Taormina, higher up, closer to the sky than to the earth, even with the high ladder it is not easy to get close, even if only to lay a flower, the Australian embassy was contacted, but no one asked that their bodies were repatriated to their homeland, Australia.

Saint Augustine does not seem to say "those who sing, pray twice", but it would be nice to think that I, in posting my photos and dedicating them to them, maybe I am praying for them.

Post Scriptum: I thank Mrs. Luisa, without her I would never have been able to reconstruct the last hours of their lives with some accuracy, the news on the web is imprecise and laconic; many thanks to mr. Bambara, a funeral director, who having buried their bodies in 2013, showed me, accompanying me in person, where exactly their location is.

All the photos I present were taken in the town of Taormina and its surroundings (Sicily); I made photos related to "street photography";

I tried to capture the essence of minimal photographic stories, collected walking down the street ... in search of fleeting moments ...

For some photographs I used a particular photographic technique at the time of shooting, which in addition to capturing the surrounding space, also "inserted" a temporal dimension, with photos characterized by being moved because the exposure times were deliberately lengthened, they are confused -focused-imprecise-undecided ... the Anglo-Saxon term that encloses this photographic genre with a single word is "blur", these images were thus created during the shooting phase, and not as an effect created subsequently, in retrospect, in the post-production.

Tutte le foto che presento sono state realizzate nella cittadina di Taormina e nei suoi dintorni (Sicilia);

ho realizzato foto riconducibili alla “street photography”;

Traditional accounts say that, around 530 BC, Siddhartha Gautama, a young prince who saw the suffering of the world and wanted to end it, reached the forested banks of Falgu River, near the city of Gaya, India. There he sat in meditation under a peepul tree (Ficus religiosa or Sacred Fig) which later became known as the Bodhi tree. According to Buddhist scriptures, after three days and three nights, Siddharta attained enlightenment and the answers that he had sought. In that location, Mahabodhi Temple was built by Emperor Ashoka in around 260 BC.

The Buddha then spent the succeeding seven weeks at seven different spots in the vicinity meditating and considering his experience. Several specific places at the current Mahabodhi Temple relate to the traditions surrounding these seven weeks.
