WoW: Velocity

I took this photo from underneath the connecting roads that lead up to the LuPu Bridge. This week’s word, velocity, means speed or the speed of something in a general direction. Across the lower half of the photo, you can see really long lights that stretch from left to right. The lights are actually cars driving across. I set up the camera on top of an electric box looking out at the road. I propped up the camera lens on my phone case so it also gets a lot of the blue-lit roads that are up higher. The blue lights also give an effect of fast, speeding lights, which I think helps represent velocity, too. I used a very slow shutter speed of eight seconds, and an ISO of 100 because I wanted it to be slightly dark. With a high ISO combined with a slow shutter speed the picture became way too bright and blurry so I had to play with those and the aperture a lot. It took me a really long time to get this photo. There wasn’t a lot of cars, so it was hard to get good lights going across the screen. I waited for a bunch of cars to drive past at the same time, and right before they got in the view I took the picture. Eight seconds went by as the cars drove past and when the photo was taken it showed the car lights going across the screen. I really think the lights and direction shows how the cars are driving and really represents velocity.
