1964 Chevy II Nova B/FX altered wheelbase gasser-style coupe. With a 1964 Chevy G10 van straight axle and parallel-leaf front suspension, this little coupe is the business. Fiberglass tilt front clip makes for easy access to the motor for tuning in between rounds at the strip. The powerplant is a de-stroked 327 small-block (with a forged crankshaft from a 283) displacing 302ci, with a Duntov 30-30 camshaft and a 4-71 GMC roots blower stuffing fuel from a 2-port Hilborn injector into the cylinders. Transmission is a heavily built Powerglide sending power to a 4.56:1 geared 12-bolt rear. This combo, along with some severe weight-reduction strategies, places this little monster squarely in the B-Factory eXperimental class for the 1964-65 drag racing season.

I have a special love for mid-60's compacts like Falcons, Novas, and Darts, and especially when they have a straight axle under the front. These types of cars, including their mid-sized brothers and sisters, were cutting-edge in 64-65 when the American automakers were battling it out on the drag strips across the US. The wheelbase alterations became wildly absurd, with the rear suspension sometimes being moved two feet forward!! Of course, in 1966, Mercury introduced the now infamous fiberglass Comet bodies that were hinged at the rear and flipped up to allow access to their all-new dragster chassis, and thus, the modern Funny Car as we know it was born, and A/FX and its sub-classes faded quickly into oblivion. If you've read this far, I thank you and hope you enjoy this little beast here. The flip front end was a bit of a challenge, but nothing too special or out of the ordinary. This one rolls really well and managed to hold together completely even after a pretty gnarly crash on the warehouse floor during the roll testing. Thanks for looking, comments and constructive criticisms are, as always, welcome.

I know. I couldn't help it.
Knitted up in the wee hours of the night, I left him out on the table for the boys to discover - E in particular as I knew he'd love it.
This is where I found him, later in the day, in the nut bowl.
Resin figurine of a Poodle reading - so absurd, I had to buy it. Makes me smile every time I see it. Galveston antique store. Galveston, Texas. Nov. 2023.
With this photograph of Anatoli I continue the mysterious portrait series of people in yellow glasses and without them.
