My photowalk of August 11, 2023. in the district of La Croix Rousse, Lyon, France, with my Zorki-4K camera circa 1977.
I equipped the Zorki-4K with the Jupiter-12 1:2.8 f=3.5cm and tried for the first time the use of a FOCA DYMA 42mm push-on filter. In turn, this induced a noticeable vignetting that I corrected to my best during the digital processing. Then, this combinaison is not to recommend.
The camera was loaded with an Fomapan Classic 100 36-exposure film. It was exposed for 32 ISO instead of 100 ISO to compensate the DYMA filter absorption (coefficient x3.5); I used my Autometer III Minolta light meter fitted with a 10° finder for selective measurements privileging the shadow areas.

After completion, the film was processed using Adox Adonal (Agfa Rodinal) developper at dilution 1+50 and 20°C for 9min. The film was then digitalized using a Sony A7 body fitted to a Minolta Slide Duplicator installed on a Minolta Auto Bellows III with a lens Minolta Bellow Macro Rokkor 50mm f/3.5. The RAW files obtained were processed without intermediate files in LR and edited to the final jpeg pictures.
All views of the film are presented in the dedicated album either in the printed framed versions and unframed full-size jpeg accompanied by some documentary smartphone Vivio Y76 color pictures.
About the camera :
This Zorki-4K camera was manufactured in 1977 by KMZ company ( Красногорский механический завод, Krasnogorskiy Mechanicheskiy Zavod) located in the Moscow region. KMZ also manufactured the ZENIT SLR's among many other productions. Zorki 4K was produced between 1972 to 1978 and the previous Zorki models were inspired by the Leica II since 1949. This model 'Made in USSR" is branded in roman characters, intentionally for exportation. Other Zorki 4K were also branded in Cyrillic as "Зоркий". Zorki 4K was sold basically either with this Jupiter-8 lens 1:2 f=50mm or the Industar lens1:3.5 f=50mm. The Jupiter-8 is a Sonnar Zeiss optical formula and fits to the Zorki body using the screwing 39mm Leica mount.
The camera was sold to me in August 2022 with its original ever-ready leather bag, a front lens cap and a small shade hood accessory Minolta D42KA. The shade hood and filter of my Focaflex also fit to the Jupiter lens (Leica standard 42 mm filter)
About the Jupiter-12 lens : The Jupiter-12 is a copy of the pre-war Carl Zeiss Biogon 3.5cm f/2.8 for the Contax that Russia produced since 1948 to around 1980. Biogon is of course a non-retro focus lens that penetrate deeply in the camera body with a protruding last glass element that should be protected with the special rear lens cap that came with. The lens was manufactured in 1975 by the KMZ sister company LZOS company (Lytkarinski Zavod Opticheskogo Strekla) in Lytkarino (Moscow region).

Sound panels reduce sound and enhance the experience and comfort in any given space. Sound absorption creates a great atmosphere by filtering out unwanted sounds from outside the room and from sounds bouncing around inside the room.
But the question of how many sound panels do I need is not always an easy question to answer. Multiple factors influence the number of panels you need.
In this article, we’ll explore a few of the factors you need to consider before choosing the number of sound panels for your room.
Shape & Size Of The Room
It probably comes as no surprise that the larger the room size, the more panels you’ll need for optimal sound absorption. Larger rooms produce more echo and more reverberation, requiring a higher level of protection to prevent sound from bouncing around the room and onto other surfaces.
The shape of a room will also affect how sound travels in and around it. A high ceiling will completely change the acoustics of a similar-sized room with lower ceilings. More height = and more space = more reverberation.
Rooms with straight, square, or rectangular walls are pretty straightforward by placing sound panels around the perimeter. But spaces with high-ceiling can benefit from sound panels on the ceiling to reduce the reverberation. Longer rooms have different problems to solve.
So before you decide on the number of panels you need, it’s important to take into consideration the size and shape of the room.
Materials In The Room
The contents of the room are important to how sound travels and is absorbed. Does your space have carpet or hardwood floors? Are the walls drywall, concrete, or wood? Is it heavily furnished or sparse? Questions like these are critical to determining the type and number of acoustical panels are needed for any given room.
Remember that hard surfaces reflect more sound than soft surfaces. Ceramic tile floors will reflect a lot more sound than carpet for example. A room full of plush couches will reflect less sound than a room full of metal chairs.
The Purpose Of The Room
The purpose of the room won’t directly affect the sound levels but is more so used to determine what is an acceptable level of noise and sound reverberation. Is your room a theater? An office? A home recording studio?
All of these rooms require different levels of noise reduction to suit their unique needs. There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to the acoustics of a room.
For many spaces, it’s not just the amount of sound that needs consideration, but the frequency as well. Different panels will absorb different frequencies, and in general, a thinner panel will absorb higher frequencies, while a thicker panel will absorb lower frequencies.
Different materials inside the panel and the outer wrapping will affect how the panel reduces noise, and which frequencies it takes out the most.
Just like using too few panels will not reduce the sound enough, using too many panels can deaden the sound too much and produce an unnatural and undesirable effect. Reverberation is natural, and important for many rooms. Too many panels in the wrong space results in a room sounding “dead”, which is not what you want unless you’re in a recording studio or similar space.
Positioning Of The Sound Panels
The position of the sound panels plays an important role in how sound is absorbed and reflected. In general, you want to place sound panels at the first reflection points, which is the first area sound would otherwise bounce in a space.
It is recommended to place panels on the sidewalls, ceilings, corners, or the back wall to deal with the first reflections. The size, and shape of the room as well as sound source and type will all play a part in determining the best place to put the panels.
How Many Do I Need?
The short answer to this question is in general you want to have 10-30% of the area covered. However, as we explained above, several factors will determine the exact number and type. You can also use this formula as a rough guide.
Cubic Volume of the room x 3% = square footage of product
Height x Width x Depth x 0.03 = Sq/Ft
These calculations and estimates are just guides, however. If you want your room to have the best soundproofing and absorption possible, it’s best to contact an expert to help you make the right decision.

A Fomapan Action 400 black-and-white film to test the effect a the special Foca filter "Dyma" produced in France in the 50's.
The filter is called "Dyma" due to the presence of neodymium in the glass giving an unusual absorption by bands in the visible spectrum. In particulier blue and yellow color ans more absorbed than the rest of the spectrum. The filter existed in two different versions with the coefficient x2.5 or 3.5. Here the 42mm push-on Foca Dyma filter used is a x 3.5.
As a consequence, I exposed the Foma 400 for 80 ISO using a Minolta Autometer III with a 10° finder for selective measurements privileging the shadow areas. I used my FOCA camera PF2B year 1956 and its normal Oplar lens1:2.8 f=5cm equipped for all the views with the Dyma filter and a Genaco metal shade hood.
Typical settings during the session : 1/100s f/8 to f/11.

The film was then digitalized using a Sony A7 body adapted to a Minolta Auto Bellows III and a Minolta Slide Duplicator using a lens Minolta Bellow Macro Rokkor 50mm f/3.5 at a reproduction ratio of 1:1. The reproduced RAW files obtained were processed in LR prior the the final JPEG editions.
All views of the film are presented in the dedicated album either in the printed framed versions and unframed full-size jpeg.
About the camera and the lens:
The Foca type PF2B (PF for "Petit Format") was constructed in France by the company "Optique & Precision de Levallois" (OPL) starting from 1947. It was manufactured in the Chateaudun OPL factory, route de Jallans, France, in 1956 among a late series of the PF2B. The factory, constructed in 1938, is still at the same place under the name of SAFRAN now producing precision devices for aerospace appliances.
The camera is equipped with the collapsible OPLAR lens (a Tessar formula) 1:2.8 f=5cm. The focal shutter of the PF2B has timing of 1/1000, 1/500, 1/200, 1/100, 1/50 and 1/25s plus the B pose. A slow exposure device below 1/25s could be installed by the aftermarket service and was installed basically for the FOCA PF3 and Foca Universel.

Originally, we thought the only rugs in stock were Orange and Blue, so we kept that in mind for the mock-up.
The absorption of light and colour in search of tone and texture is the pursuit of photography where painting with light often leads us into darkness. These pictures were created as I tested a new camera. When I first got my Canon 550D I thought that it was so light and well fitting in the hand that I could capture any lighting conditions. True there are some leaps and bounds for technology yet to perform to allow my unsteady hands to capture the lowest light conditions in sparkling clarity. I am sure that some of these technological leaps and bounds are occurring even as I type. It makes my hands tremble with anticipation to think of testing the next stable releases of stabilizing cameras with even lower light sensitive sensors.
