One of Australia's most iconic reptiles, the spike-covered Thorny Devil lives in the hot arid interior of the country. These lizards jerk as they move along the sand dunes, feeding on thousands of ants per day.

Thorny Devils are so specialised for life in the desert, that they can lay in any dew they come across and absorb water through capillary action to their mouth via grooves in their scales!

Chlorophyll is the molecule that absorbs sunlight and uses its energy to synthesise carbohydrates from CO2 and water. This process is known as photosynthesis and is the basis for sustaining the life processes of all plants. Since animals and humans obtain their food supply by eating plants, photosynthesis can be said to be the source of our life also.

In 1780, the famous English chemist Joseph Priestley found that plants could "restore air which has been injured by the burning of candles." He used a mint plant, and placed it into an upturned glass jar in a vessel of water for several days. He then found that "the air would neither extinguish a candle, nor was it all inconvenient to a mouse which I put into it". In other words, he discovered that plants produce oxygen.

Chlorophyll gives plants their green colour because it does not absorb the green wavelengths of white light. That particular light wavelength is reflected from the plant, so it appears green.

Na potrzeby wieżowca Taipei 101 zaprojektowano olbrzymi dynamiczny eliminator drgań (system TMD). Zadaniem tego systemu jest ochrona budowli przed drganiami konstrukcji, jakie mogą powodować trzęsienia ziemi i podmuchy wiatru. Dzięki jego pracy pochłoniętych zostaje około 40% – 45% odchyleń wieży. Wisi 380 m nad ziemią i waży ok. 660 ton. Gdy wiatr bądź fala sejsmiczna próbuje odchylić wieżowiec w jedną stronę, amortyzator przesuwa się w przeciwnym kierunku, wymuszając powrót sił działających na budynek do stanu równowagi – funkcjonuje więc podobnie do zwyczajnej przeciwwagi. /

For the skyscraper Taipei 101 designed enormous dynamic vibration eliminator (TMD system). The purpose of this system is to protect buildings against vibration design, they can cause earthquakes and gusts of wind. Thanks to the work absorbed is approximately 40% - 45% deviation tower. It hangs 380 meters above the ground and weighs approx. 660 tons. When the wind or seismic wave is trying to deflect skyscraper in one direction, the damper moves in the opposite direction, forcing back the forces acting on the building to a state of balance - therefore operates similarly to ordinary counterweight.

Iconic reflection nebula created by the passage of an open cluster of bright young stars through a dust cloud. The magnetic fields of the stars warp the dust into lines and swirls.

Dust preferentially scatters blue light and absorbs red and IR imparting a blue colouration to the dust near to the stars whilst in the bottom right corner the dust cloud appears more red.

390 was built in 1896 by Sharp Stewart & Co, Glasgow as part of an order for six locomotives for the Cape Government Railway. In 1910 the Cape Government Railway was absorbed into South Africa Railways and it was renumbered SAR 993. In 1971 it was purchased by Zambesi Sawmills Railway where it operated until that railway ceased operations in 1973. In 1974 the locomotive was given to David Shepherd and arrived back in Britain at Salford Docks in March 1975 after which transported the Whipsnade & Umfolozi Light Railway. Over the following years it was moved to the East Somerset Railway and then arrived at the British Empire & Commonwealth Museum at Bristol in 2003. In 2004 David Shepherd donated the locomotive to the National Railway Museum and between 2008 and 2012 it was cosmetically restored at Tyseley before going on display at the National Railway Museum at Shildon in 2012 for a number of years before moving to York.

Today I went to the Hockney Experience at Lightroom, 8 minutes walk from Kings Cross/St Pancras in London. The photos I’ve taken include the audience lying and sitting around absorbed in the experience. It was spectacular.

I can only describe it using the websites words:

Holoport, the audio company, radically transforms how audiences engage with sound.

Disguise is a platform which enables audiences to experience spectacular visual experiences.

Every year thousands of Hindu devotees gather in front of Shri Shri Lokenath Brahmachari Ashram temple Barodi , near Dhaka, Bangladesh. Faithful sit in front of candles light ( named locally as prodip ) and absorb in prayer.

Last weekend we went to San Francisco to watch the historic flight of the solar aircraft called Solar Impulse fly over the Golden Gate Bridge. We had a nice picnic a Crissy Field. Waking in the park I noticed this bird bathing in a puddle of water, I could get quite close, the bird was too absorbed with her task.

I took thee bracketed RAW exposures, but used only the underexposed version to process a balanced HDR photo. After that I carefully pulled the curves and addd some light leak.

I got ready to go out, when I met this macaon in my garden. It was fully absorbed to gather this flower of rosemary. In these conditions, it was not too much difficult to approach lending itself to a photography session in front of my lens.

Reduce shock

"we absorb your fear, it brims like a wild stream

sweat drops on your forehead

you look aside, seeing grinning darkness

we caught you in the net of branches

you hear how the woods speak?

silent whispers in the shapeless kingdom of shadows

we lured you into our trap, restlessly gloating

step after step, demise's laughter

enchanted delirium, touch of the twilight children"

I was delighted to get my first really good view of this colourful member of the crow family in woodland at Titchfield Haven. Absorbed, initially, with pecking at its lichen-covered perch, it soon slipped off into cover when it became aware of my presence.

These cobra-like plants, Darlingtonia californica, are found natively in the bog areas of Northern California and Southwestern Oregon. They flower in May or June with hanging blooms of yellow and red and produce up to a dozen leaves per plant. Erect seed pods remain most of the summer. Insects are lured into the leaf opening under the hood by nectar on the colorful "petal-like" appendages and the edges of the opening. Once inside the hood the insects become confused by the many transparent areas in the upper parts of the leaves which appear as exits. Keeping a foothold on the glassy smooth upper surface of the tube is difficult, and eventually the insects are trapped in the lower tube by sharp downward pointing hairs. After falling into a pool of liquid at the base of the leaf, the captive is digested and absorbed as food through the plant's thin lower walls.

Recently we went to a secluded beach north of Santa Cruz, California, called Panther Beach. My friend's kid is delightful and has a happy character. Here he is absorbed in playing with sand. He has down syndrome, also known as trisomy 21, a genetic disorder caused by the presence of a third copy of the 21st chromosome. Special needs kid? It surely does not feel like, being around his delightful character.
