aka Laccaria amethystina - it really is purple - found it next to the driveway in the grass. It's about 1 inch high. It's called the deceiver because while ostensibly it isn't poisonous, it can and does absorb arsenic from the soil, so if you eat enough of them over a period of time...well, you know.

All powerful, She reigns supreme across all of this orb that we call home. She is often a baffling model for photography...so wonderful and so much to absorb just to discern what your eyes are truly seeing.... so vast, almost infinite layers of white, greys, infinite blends of blues, stone and a glimpse of sun and shadow, all subject to a ferocity of weather that belies her moody and reigning nature.

Hint - if you look for the signature on the right lower side of the photo, glance over to the left a wee bit and you’ll see the dim detail of a sea-going zodiac/helmsman...and have a better sense of actual scale.

Thanks very much for viewing!

When you are deep in the forest your mind gets full of nature. Leaves, trees, ponds, falls, creeks, (hopefully small) animals. If you live in a big city, then your eyes try to absorb as much nature as they can, it feels like filling a nature-tank until the next time you go there. And that's how it felt on that morning. I went there very early before Purgatory Falls get packed with hikers. I took several photos of the falls and then I climbed over the rocks only to find this amazing "graffiti". Even if it was in the heart of the forest, somehow it made sense. It didnt look like "vandalism". In my eyes it looked like the face of the forest or the face of the waterfall.

I sat for a couple of hours utterly absorbed finding small scenes like this amongst the gently swaying wild meadow grasses. Layers of light and shade with dreamy diffused backgrounds - calming, soothing and oh, so quiet. Double exposure with focus shift.

Slime Mold has a terrible name. I think this stuff is beautiful and so interesting.

It could be: Trichia decipiens.

Most of our forest has dried out again from lack of rain, but this log was softy and 'punky' so it has absorbed the moisture from our foggy mornings.

This young lady was brilliant, elegant, talented and gracious. The best I have ever seen.

There were moments that she was lost in a world of her own, oblivious of the public...

I found out that her name is Lisa Lottie.

When you remember an area for nearly sixty years.

When you’ve walked it, absorbed it, luxuriated in it,

camped in it, competed in orienteering competitions here, day and night, taught many children about its culture, habitats, natural history, people, history and geography and seen them come to love the natural world as a result, it becomes very, very special.

When you’ve studied it from “O” level to Degree level, come to know its beautiful villages, their residents and the way of life.

When it is the most wooded and one of the most splendid parts of South-East England.

When it has seeped into your soul.

When you feel its geology, pedology, flora, fauna, history, geography and culture rise through the leather of your walking boots, with every twist and turn you become part of it,

it has become part of you.

When the spirit of the trees, the gurgle of the streams

and the therapeutic effect of wide, expansive vistas

of glorious landscapes speak to you, a bond, a love has been forged that will never die.

Such is this area to me.

Its spirit is in my D.N.A.

I am it.

It is me.

C’est la vie.

Filakovo Castle in Slovakia was a medieval castle whose ruins are overlooking the town Fiľakovo. The first written mention of the castle is from 1242, where it says that the castle resisted Tartar invasions. It has several owners, including Matthew III Csák.

In the 12th century, the original castle consists of square tower, perimeter wall with the palace on the southwest side and probably mound with palisades. During the reconstruction in 1551 the castle was expanded to the middle castle with a pair of massive pentagonal bastions. Lower Castle was provided by three polygonal bastions, and two tower gates with drawbridge and moat 10 meters deep. The reconstruction included also building a massive city walls with gates and rounded ditched.

From the town fortification it has been preserved only bastion. Lower Castle was absorbed by the town, only part of the courtyard was preserved. The castle burned down in 1682 during the siege and since then it has been in ruins.

This horseshoe bend is one of the most photographed subjects in the world. However more than often those images looked muted to me, in a sense the rocks are rather "dry", like they absorbed all the lights without reflecting them at all. I decided to make some effort in post processing this image to give them liveliness by making them a bit reflective. I like the result.

Chlorophyll is the molecule that absorbs sunlight and uses its energy to synthesise carbohydrates from CO2 and water. This process is known as photosynthesis and is the basis for sustaining the life processes of all plants. Since animals and humans obtain their food supply by eating plants, photosynthesis can be said to be the source of our life also.

In 1780, the famous English chemist Joseph Priestley found that plants could "restore air which has been injured by the burning of candles." He used a mint plant, and placed it into an upturned glass jar in a vessel of water for several days. He then found that "the air would neither extinguish a candle, nor was it all inconvenient to a mouse which I put into it". In other words, he discovered that plants produce oxygen.

Chlorophyll gives plants their green colour because it does not absorb the green wavelengths of white light. That particular light wavelength is reflected from the plant, so it appears green.

Iconic reflection nebula created by the passage of an open cluster of bright young stars through a dust cloud. The magnetic fields of the stars warp the dust into lines and swirls.

Dust preferentially scatters blue light and absorbs red and IR imparting a blue colouration to the dust near to the stars whilst in the bottom right corner the dust cloud appears more red.

From the Main square of Plasencia, at a distance of about 100 meters, we head along C / Trujillo towards Plaza Ansano. This small square that houses the Palacio de Carvajal also surprises us with an undoubtedly striking and unique sculpture. We are in front of a sculpture called "Scene 3".

Made by Antonio Morán and his son Carlos Moran's is a work belonging to a sequence of 5 sculptures that was the winner in the "III Caja Extremadura International Sculpture Contest" held in 2010.

According to its authors, this is scene no. 3 of the sequence and it consists of two figures made of polyester resin and marble dust, the meaning of which is no more than what the viewer wants to give it. From the first to the fifth scene, it is, according to the Moran family, an "open play" that the viewer has to interpret in his own way.

Scene 3 was later cast in aluminum with a white finish and installed in this small square in the Historic Center of Plasencia. Looking at this sculpture of a man standing next to another with his head buried in the sand, one is left absolutely perplexed, absorbed in the thoughts of him trying to decipher for a long time the meaning of this peculiar work.
