An empty bench represents a vacancy, A bench is constructed to provide a sitting place for a person or two. This bench represents the absence of Man in the wilderness. We often think of extinction as the only way a species leaves the wilderness, however in the case of Man he has left the wilderness as the result of evolution. We evolved out of the wilderness, and are no longer a part of it. Just as the ivory billed woodpecker has left but for different reasons.

A face-to-face encounter (my first!) with a Mandarin duck (Aix galericulata) that was gently walking my way on a path by the river.
The resplendent plumage tells us it is a male, and that the mating season is on.
When this period finishes, comes the end of Spring, the male moults into eclipse plumage, which is similar to the female's, except for the yellow-orange-red beak, the absence of crest, and the fainter eye-stripe.
In summer, in the absence of rain,
the water level of the Sava drops so much that
beautiful stone formations come to the surface.
This year it is so low that
you can almost cross over to the other side.

I just wanted to thank all of you who continue to show me so much support. Especially those of you who's support has never changed even after my long absence from Flickr. Fossil Falls. No water here but you will find some amazing volcanic rocks surrounding a gorge that makes this stop a must when your traveling up Hwy 395. Located just east of the Sierra's this place is great for a day trip stop. At night this is a night sky photographers worst nightmare. Everywhere you step can be your last as this gorge is plenty deep and precarious.

note: this is the second in a 4 part series. beginning , during, ending, and revival. To me it's important to embrace the idea that everything has it's seasons and there is a rise and fall to each. There's a certain balance to that. These "shifts" aren't always easy but even an ending of one thing is just the beginning of something new. <3

the weight of silence that I pick up,
everything opposes me an intimate lock
and declares me an intruder in my retirement.
In vain the foot that I advance coincides
with the footprint of the foot that sank in the sand
the invisible the same as I substitute;
for what the soul, upon returning, asks of me
it is not doubling as soon as it alienates me
but to be again what I destroy!

Sand Particles Transfer Charge
Here’s their idea. They begin by thinking of sand particles as identical dielectric spheres. In an electric field, dielectric particles become polarised, causing charge to gather on each side of the sand spheres. When two spheres touch, the charge redistributes across the boundary between them, creating a larger, doubly polarised particle. The key idea is what happens when this breaks into two again: each particle ends up with a net charge (see picture above). The process of polarisation then begins again allowing the particles to increase their charge even further with each collision. It’s not hard to see how a relatively small number of collisions could end up transferring huge amounts of charge in this way despite the absence of any kind of conducting medium.
