Abraham på benken hjemme i Loshavn, 1987

Original by Alexander Gardner (1821-1882), Library of Congress

By far the coldest temperatures I've ever experienced. With temperatures below zero made shooting challenging at times. Your hands would instantly freeze. Too bulky of gloves made shooting nearly impossible. The combo for me was the double layering of gloves on my left hand and the thinner glove on my right. That seemed to work. But man, just cold, just plain cold! Good times with Willie freezing our butts off!

I will be releasing a collection of images from my travels in the Canadian Rockies. The Voices of Winter will consist of abstracts, intimate scenes, mountain portraits, a little aurora action, and lots of mountain drama. It should be a nice rounded body or images. I always like seeing the images together as a body work. For me, it always feels good to see the images together. Stayed tuned for updates.

Hope everyone's New Year is off to a good start, continue to inspire each other, step outside the box and have fun. Peace and Love.

Some time later God tested Abraham. He said to him, “Abraham!”

“Here I am,” he replied.

Then God said, “Take your son, your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.”

Early the next morning Abraham got up and loaded his donkey. He took with him two of his servants and his son Isaac. When he had cut enough wood for the burnt offering, he set out for the place God had told him about. On the third day Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance. He said to his servants, “Stay here with the donkey while I and the boy go over there. We will worship and then we will come back to you.”

Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and placed it on his son Isaac, and he himself carried the fire and the knife. As the two of them went on together, Isaac spoke up and said to his father Abraham, “Father?”

“Yes, my son?” Abraham replied.

“The fire and wood are here,” Isaac said, “but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?”

Abraham answered, “God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” And the two of them went on together.

When they reached the place God had told him about, Abraham built an altar there and arranged the wood on it. He bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. Then he reached out his hand and took the knife to slay his son. But the angel of the LORD called out to him from heaven, “Abraham! Abraham!”

“Here I am,” he replied.

“Do not lay a hand on the boy,” he said. “Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son.”

Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son. So Abraham called that place The LORD Will Provide. And to this day it is said, “On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided.”

The angel of the LORD called to Abraham from heaven a second time and said, “I swear by myself, declares the LORD, that because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son, I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies, and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed me.”

Genesis 1:1-15

In a refreshing break from my CCC creations, I decided to do a small scene for the awesome Biblical scenes contest by Bricko. I chose this scene in Genesis, not only for its overall awesomeness, and its unique possibilities, but also because of its powerful impact in my life. Abraham's act of faith is unrivaled by any except Jesus himself. My "unbelief" has always been a large and looming factor in my walk, and to see a human like myself, fully rely on God even to the extent of giving up his sons life, really encourages me.

Abraham Laket was built on the upper course of the North Saskatchewan River, in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies. It lines David Thompson Highway between Saskatchewan River Crossing and Nordegg. It was created in 1972, with the construction of the Bighorn Dam. Although man-made, the lake has the blue color of other glacial lakes in the Rocky Mountains, which is caused by rock flour as in other glacial lakes.

As always, thanks for stopping by and looking, I appreciate your comments and visits.

Abraham Lake is the result of a dam on the North Saskatchewan River in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Although only a few km wide, it is 32 km in length, and has the characteristic blue colour of other real alpine lakes in the Rocky Mountains because of the rock flour in the water.

Rainy Day on Abraham Lake

The Abraham Lincoln memorial in Washington DC

This was an image recently taken at a photography club outing (Prairie Regional Photographic Association) with the main membership from clubs in Alberta and Saskatchewan. It was a great time with great people, and great photo opportunities. Abraham Lake is a water body created by a dam on aboriginal land and named after the respected chief at the time the negotiations occurred.

I have a feeling this is a Registrar’s title. The birds resemble the dove in Rattner’s “Noah and the Dove”.

It was interesting and a surprise to see these tapestries hanging randomly in a exhibit of Florida crafts. I had never seen them unwrapped, they spent their time rolled and wrapped in brown paper on a upper shelf with tapestries by Shahn and Hirsch. I thought that like the other artists tapestries we carried they were woven in France but the reference I found on line said they were Israeli but I am not sure if that is a manufacturer or a geographic designation.

The Lincoln Memorial. It is located on the western end of the National Mall in Washington, D.C., across from the Washington Monument. Dedicated in 1922, it is one of several monuments built to honor an American president. The memorial contains inscriptions of two well-known speeches by Lincoln, "The Gettysburg Address" and his Second Inaugural Address.

Lincoln Tomb

The tomb is in the center of a 12½ acre (51,000 m²) plot. Constructed of Massachusetts granite, it has a rectangular base surmounted by a 117-foot (36 m)-high obelisk and a semicircular entrance way. A bronze reproduction of sculptor Gutzon Borglum's head of Lincoln in the U.S. Capitol rests on a pedestal in front of the entrance way. Four flights of balustraded stairs—two flanking the entrance at the front and two at the rear—lead to a level terrace. The balustrade extends around the terrace to form a parapet. Originally open to the public, the terrace has since been closed due to safety concerns.

Infantry and Cavalry statues at the corners of Lincoln Tomb

In the center of the terrace, a large and ornate base supports the obelisk. On the walls of the base are 37 hewn stones, cut to represent raised shields, each engraved with the name of a State at the time the tomb was built. Each shield is connected to another by two raised bands, and thus the group forms an unbroken chain encircling the base. Four bronze statues adorn the corners of the latter. They represent the infantry, navy, artillery, and cavalry of the Civil War period. In front of the obelisk and above the entrance stands a full-length statue of Lincoln.

I've been to Abraham Lake three times for sunrise, and I've yet to see a good one. My last trip there was no different. Nothing but boring cloudless blue skies, hence very little sky in this shot. At least the ground is interesting there!

These frozen bubbles under Alberta’s Lake Abraham might look like winter jewels, the bubbles are actually frozen pockets of methane, a highly flammable gas.
