Sort of a filler until TWD comes back on next month. I have new figures to show for season 7b but I feel like it's too early to show them. Please comment if you favorite
The noise made by these ice heaves on Abraham Lake must have been quite loud. I'd love to be there to hear it some day.
Abraham Lake was created in 1972 with the construction of the Bighorn Dam on the North SK. River..
The lake is 32km long..
Abraham Lake in Alberta's Rockies is one of my favorite places to visit. The ice heaves and methane bubbles trapped in the ice are a marvel to see.
"Autumn burned brightly, a running flame through the mountains, a torch flung to the trees." -Faith Baldwin.
Abraham Lake is located in the Alberta Rockies and runs adjacent to the David Thompson Highway. It is a manmade lake known for the spectacular display of bubbles that rise just under the surface. The bubbles are created by methane gas. They are really very amazing to witness.
The walk to see the bubbles from this vantage point was quite treacherous. There are pools of ice amongst the rocks and incredibly sharp ice chards everywhere. I found it extremely challenging and almost slipped many times even though I was wearing my spikes. That, coupled with the frigid wind-chill makes for a real winter hike.
We have ventured down the David Thompson many times. It is always an adventure. We never know what we will see. This is the road that we photographed a Lynx that obliged us and sat for over twenty minutes while we took photos! The road is usually very quiet but on this particular day there were hoards of tourists. What you cannot see, to the left of this photo are the crowds of people in a festive type gathering enjoying the phenomena of the bubbles.
I met him on the Venice Boardwalk
on Venice Beach on a hot Saturday in July. At
Venice with Joshua, my son, we stopped to listen to
Abraham, who was playing conga and other
percussion instruments, jam on some classic
reggae tunes with a gifted group
of soulful friends.
Taken last week.
This was the start of my day... Abraham Lake. The entire drive I was wondering if I was going to be rewarded for my efforts... Thankfully I was.

By Andrew O'Connor shows a Lincoln who has aged more than those four years in office would indicate, years in which he led a country plunged into Civil War and tragically lost his 11-year-old son to typhoid fever. Commissioned around 1930. Fort Lincoln Cemetery Brentwood, MD

Thomas Bernhard in his novel "Verstörung" (1967) about this place (his protagonist coming from Stiwoll by car together with his father): "An Blochs Haus vorbei fuhren wir gegen Hauenstein, zu einem mehr oder weniger verrückten Industriellen, dessen Namen ich vergessen habe. Von Abraham kürzten wir den Weg über Geistthal ab."
Sunrise at Abraham Lake in the Alberta Rockies was a bit of a disappointment when I was there on Feb. 16, but is was still a great day to make a loop through the rockies.
Fading light at Abraham Lake with its famous methane bubbles trapped under the ice. Could not have asked for more on my first visit.
