... wherever we go, we prefer the smaller winding roads, if and when not time-pressed.

Many no more than car-width.

With regular spaces to park and take your photo's...

These are with typical pollard Willows of the Low Lands.

They are calm, slow and show you the proper beauty, with time to admire.

Have a lovely day and thank you for your visit, M, (*_*)

Sometimes, we get lucky and encounter the unexpected.

St Ives in Cornwall.

After a long 'photo'-walk all along, we ended up on the harbour-wall, it was still lovely in the sun, I'd walked up to the end, to the lighthouse, looked over the side and there I saw THE SEAL!!!

First time ever I saw one in FREE nature, so very beautiful... I felt like jumping up and down, but stayed calm, not to scare it. By now a whole group of people were looking on as delighted as me.

It suddenly snorted and dived under, completely out of sight only to reappear a bit further...

Life can be so wonderful, sometimes through 'small' and surprising happenings.

Most of you will know by now, how much I love playing with light.

Well, this was one of these 'sessions', when imagination and creativity joined in the studio.

The lights went on! LOL

These lights, plastic tubes filled with little lights, had 'entertained' us the whole Summer in the garden.

It seemed silly to leave them out now, so, in they came!

Then, something happened, I saw them and thought, now wait a minute, what if, euhhh, yes, do this, try that?

I was thrilled now, and started to try ALL sorts...

These are the best, hah, sight, what a great time I had and glad with the results.

The New Little Belt Bridge (Nye Lillebæltsbro).

Getting closer to our destination, we cross a beautiful bridge.

The New Little Belt Bridge (Nye Lillebæltsbro) is a suspension bridge that crosses the Little Belt strait between Jutland (Jylland) and the island of Funen (Fyn) in Denmark.

The bridge is 1700 metres long, the main span is 600 metres, the pylons reaching a height of 120 metres, and the maximum clearance from the sea is 44 meters.

Opened:October 21, 1970, the bridge was constructed to alleviate congestion on the Old Little Belt Bridge due to the increasing car traffic between Jutland and Funen.

It is a motorway on the E20 bridge with three-lane carriageways as opposed to the single lanes of the old bridge.

The bridge has heating in the road deck, so it can be kept free of ice and snow in winter.

Passing through Little Belt Bridge is toll free… amazing.

Hope you enjoy?

Yes, all our herbs come from the wild or from gardens...

Also it is trendy now to decorate your food with edible flowers, violets, chrysanthemums, tulips, rose petals and more.

Sometimes it is the leaves, the whole flower, sometimes just the flower.

It was full on in Japan, and I tried... but, euuhh, some are an 'acquired' taste = BITTER!!!

Bronze-leaved fennel in our garden...

We have had days of endless rain at the moment.

The drops looked like diamonds on this delicate plant, hanging on to the yellow flowers and crying off the feathery leaves...

It is a hardy, perennial plant, I do not just grow it for its beauty but also to use as a kitchen herb, lovely on a piece of fish, a slight aniseed taste!

Purple was the colour worn by Roman magistrates; it became the imperial colour worn by the rulers of the Byzantine Empire and the Holy Roman Empire, and later by Roman Catholic bishops.

Similarly in Japan, the colour is traditionally associated with the Emperor and aristocracy.

Phalaenopsis Orchid, known as the Moth Orchid, abbreviated Phal in the horticultural trade, is an orchid genus of approximately 60 species.

Phalaenopsis is one of the most popular orchids in the trade, through the development of many artificial hybrids.

It is native to southern China, the Indian Subcontinent, Southeast Asia (Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, etc.), New Guinea, the Bismarck Archipelago, and Queensland.

They bloom in their full glory for several weeks.

In the home, the flowers may last two to three months or even longer, here I noticed.

PIERS...

One is abandoned and taken back by the sea slowly, the other well maintained and in full ancient glory.

Both in Wales.

Pleasure piers were first built in Britain during the early 19th century.

A symbol of the typical British seaside holiday, by 1914, more than 100 pleasure piers were located around the UK coast.

Regarded as being among the finest Victorian architecture, there are still a significant number of seaside piers of architectural merit still standing, although some have been lost.

Wandering around the dilapidating one, a sadness seeps into my soul, feelings of times gone bye...

I wish you all the very best and thank you for all your kind words, time, comments, likes and faves.

This monument was installed in the early fifties, in honour of the fishermen, seamen and also those who lost their lives at sea during the war.

Against the sky.

It is tall and stands in a prominent place, overlooking the sea and the entrance of the harbour of Ostend in Belgium.

This is the top part. Arms crossed. Another one on the bottom arms down, in silence.

I wanted some 'different angle' shots of the familiar places.

It holds a special place in my collection.

In no way been manipulated.

PURE JOY...

IGOR THE WORLD CHAMPION.

Once a horse won that title... it becomes invaluable and is used as a stud.

Igor had just sired a few mares and was feeeeeeeeeling GOOD...

(to sire is to inseminate.)

The Belgian horse, Belgian Heavy Horse, Flemish or Brabant is a horse breed that comes from the West-Brabantian region of Belgium.

They are one of the strongest of the heavy breeds.

The world's Largest Horse was a Belgian named Brooklyn Supreme, who weighed 3,200 pounds, and stood at 19.2 hands.

On average the Brabant will grow to be slightly over 1 ton or 2,000 pounds.

Colours normally are a blond with a brighter mane, or a sorrel/ chestnut colouring.

In history their main use was to work farms.

They are able to pull tremendous amounts of weight-up to over 4,500 pounds for a pair.

They also played an important role in the first World War, where quite a few perished.

I walked around and started to photograph, I discovered another blond stallion in an adjacent field and in order to get his whole head, with the velvet nose and pricked up ears all in, I had pushed through the fences and the top (danger!!!) ribbon... well I got the shot, but what a SHOCKING experience!

I straightened too soon and was electrocuted, in the neck, I called Paul, yelling: IS THE CAMERA GOING TO BE ALL RIGHT???

The horse got as much of a fright as I did, bolted and ran off.

Farmers are the same all over the world, they are only allowed a low voltage BUT... this was 240, my heart felt like I was 25 again. Bouboum.

I turned around into the 'safer' stables, obviously the nursery, since there were about 6 stables all with foals, that's where I captured those two lovelies.

The adventures of a photographer he, tee hee.

The Belgian horse is a much-loved gentle giant.

This large heavily muscled horse most likely descended from the heavy prehistoric horses and was indispensable as a workhorse in the Middle Ages when this horse was known as the Flanders (Flemish) Horse, now it is known as the Brabant.

Thank you and have a super day, M, (*_*)

#AbFav_PHOTOSTORY

For years I have been working on a project, mostly for a book, it also became, at some stage, a Wall of Fame in a city...

Eyes are our soul mirrors in my view. People had to guess who it was from the clue in front of their lower face. FY,

The trial, done on the technical camera and developed and printed in the 'wet' darkroom.

I'll upload some now and then...

as they are not easy to scan.

AAhh well, when I have some time, FUN!

As a photographer, your main tools are:

- you, as a person with a creative mind.

- your eyes, using the visual literacy.

- your camera, keep it in shipshape, handle it with the care and respect it deserves (even as a pro!!!).

- the technical and practical knowledge you have acquired over the years!

Paul and my Hasselblad, his doesn't have the pentaprism, mine does because I'm not fond of the 'normal' Hasselblad reversed mirror view, LOL

This was a shoot for a glossy Casino magazine, the client wanted transparencies, I'm not fond of working with slide film so Paul was the main photographer, which means I take care of all the rest, the liaising, the models, clothes and the dresses, jewelry, hair and make-up stylist, other needs for all involved.

I always have my cameras and lenses with me off course, I back up things and during breaks, I'll always have a go and enjoy myself.

As I had never been in a casino, it was all new to me and challenging.

The lights were set up for entertainment, leisure and pleasure.

It was very important that the 'lights' on the table be visible, a lot of time spent on light-readings to have the right balance.

As one of the poses was to be for the cover, we needed space for text and strap lines.

Had to take that into account for the composition.

"The model, just a beautiful 'accessory' = something nonessential but desirable that contributes to an effect or result."

These images were taken only for my own pleasure, the model happy with them too.

#AbFav_ROCKS_💎

Dry stone or loose stone walls are commonly used as field boundaries in the highlands, such as the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors.

A dry-stone wall is a wall that is made up of stones skill-fully placed one on top of the other with no binding agent to hold them together.

The wall is held up by a special construction method and by its own weight, and the stones must be carefully selected by shape to ensure that they have a large contact surface area with their neighbours and so do not slip.

Containing sheep in specific fields is the main reason for the existence of dry stone walls.

Also, they are a thing of beauty, they last much longer than 'wet' walls, and they're safer than fences when it comes to herding in wildlife.

Besides, what else is there to do with all those stones cluttering up the countryside?

The moors are bleak, the higher you go the less vegetation there is, nothing to stop the wind, wet walls would not stand a chance, but now the wind just ‘whistles’ through the stones!

Wishing you all a beautiful day and thank you for visiting, Magda, (*_*)

St Ives, Cornwall... end of September... end of Summer...

The tables and chairs are empty, the beach reclaimed by the seagulls and the sea by the local fishermen.

Gone are the sun worshipers, the children's laughter.

The sailing boats safely tucked away for winter.

Only working boats now, men out there, on the wide open waters earning their living.

That day was a calm day... with a kind of melancholy.

Paul surprised me with these beauties.

I really get annoyed when people use the worn cliché, that a man only gives flowers if he has done something 'wrong', if he needs forgiving! I'm sick and tired of it, plus I find it most unfair to men.

Many give flowers just to say, I care, I love you, thank you...

Anthuriums are a fun flower and never fail to provoke a smile.

They look almost unreal! The flowers are thick, shiny, ribbed and wrinkled, while the leaves are large and glossy, which makes them so much more difficult to photograph well!

They belong to the Araceae family, which also includes callas and philodendrons.

Their genus name, Anthurium, comes from the Greek words anthos meaning "flower," and oura, meaning "tail."

Anthurium can also be called "Flamingo Flower" or "Boy Flower", both referring to the structure of the spathe and spadix.

Thank you for your comments and time, M, (*_*)

#AbFav_GLASS_

#AbFav_PHOTOSTORY

HAPPINESS IS...teaching someone, something new, no this is NOT father Christmas, he is Flemish actor, learning the art of glassblowing!

The red is a glass experiment

For quite some time we wanted to photograph glass being blown by an artisan.

I found Marcel Vlamynck, a master glassblower, and contacted him, he was agreeable and the appointment was made.

The earliest evidence of glassblowing comes from a collection of waste from a glass shop, including fragments of glass tubes, glass rods and tiny blown bottles, which was dumped in a ritual bath in the Jewish Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem, dated from 37 to 4 BC.

The transformation of raw materials into glass takes place at around 1,320 °C (2,400 °F) the glass emits enough heat to appear almost white hot.

The glass is then left to "fine out" (allowing the bubbles to rise out of the mass), and then the working temperature is reduced in the furnace to around 1,090 °C (2,000 °F).

At this stage, the glass appears to be a bright orange color.

We enjoyed a whole afternoon, and of course we went home with a piece of glass Art work!

In general use, herbs are plants with savoury or aromatic properties that are used for flavouring and garnishing food, for medicinal purposes, or for fragrances; excluding vegetables and other plants consumed for macronutrients.

Culinary use typically distinguishes herbs from spices.

Herbs generally refers to the leafy green or flowering parts of a plant (either fresh or dried), while spices are usually dried and produced from other parts of the plant, including seeds, bark, roots and fruits.

Herbs have a variety of uses including culinary, medicinal, and in some cases, spiritual.

Much used and enjoyed in our kitchen!

Very much appreciated. Magda, (*_*)

#AbFav_MY_THEMES_ 💖 DANCE

#AbFav_PHOTOSTORY

A BIG personal Fave of mine.

Now, THIS is a REAL strobe image.

The lighting technique I was using was in complete darkness, euuuhhh, which was a bit of a problem for him, however after a couple of tries, he succeeded.

This is the result: NO DIGITAL MANIPULATION. ONE SINGLE EXPOSURE, ONE NEG.

NO room for mistake.

I asked him to make a beautiful movement, fascinated as I am by trying to capture the emotion of motion in camera.

What I didn't know is that dancers need a point to fix on at each turn, to remain and land on the same spot.

A very strong, lean and dynamic man, a joy to watch the human body at work.

Christian Dedeene was a solo dancer for 5 years with Maurice Béjart.

Most of the ballet terms are in French. I always thought this was a pirouette... but no, it is a triple tour en l'air.

Turn in the air. This is essentially a male dancer's step.

It is a turn in the air in which the dancer rises straight into the air from a demi-plié, makes a complete turn and lands in the fifth position with the feet reversed.

The turn may be single, double or triple according to the ability of the dancer.

The assist and the head must spot as in pirouettes.

Tour en l'air may also be finished in various poses such as attitude, arabesque, grande seconde or on one knee. It may also be done in a series

THIS IS A TRIBUTE TO Maurice Béjart, founder of the 'Ballet du XXe Siècle, a superb choreographer.

I love trees in ALL seasons, here they are skeletal.

It is early October and we are in Scotland, so the weather is ‘Scottish’… which means, some sun, racing clouds, fast showers, lots of light play on the hills and oooh interesting light.

As we are high up, we are closer to the sky, so; often the top of the hills are covered in eerie wisps of white cloud.

Like a lover’s caress.

The weather doesn’t bother us, we take it as it comes, everything has its charms and moods.

When in The Highlands, you just have to see it with mist and rain.

We stand on the shore of Loch Lubnaig, standing silent, stunned by such beauty, which changes by the second! I capture the rain.

The same in Yorkshire, with the many Majestic old trees

ONE IN FLANDERS... Guess?

This is again how it came out of my camera!

I’m a ‘purist’, lol

Aconitum, commonly known as aconite, monkshood, wolf's bane, leopard's bane, mouse-bane, women's bane, devil's helmet, queen of poisons, or blue rocket.

It is a genus of over 250 species of flowering plants belonging to the family Ranunculaceae.

These herbaceous perennial plants are chiefly native to the mountainous parts of the Northern Hemisphere, growing in the moisture-retentive but well-draining soils of mountain meadows.

Most species are extremely poisonous and must be dealt with carefully.

The tall, erect stem is crowned by racemes of large blue, purple, white, yellow, or pink zygomorphic flowers with numerous stamens.

They are distinguishable by having one of the five petaloid sepals (the posterior one), called the galea, in the form of a cylindrical helmet, hence the English name monkshood, and in Flemish: monnikskap.

Paul on the terras can't wait to try the 'onsen'.

An onsen is a Japanese hot spring bath; the term also extends to cover the bathing facilities and traditional inns frequently situated around a hot spring.

As a volcanically active country, Japan has thousands of onsen scattered throughout all of its major islands.

Onsen come in many types and shapes, including outdoor and indoor baths.

Baths may be either publicly run by a municipality or privately, often as part of a hotel, ryokan, or bed and breakfast.

It is hot water that fills the bath, it is quite a sensation to bathe outside, in the open air!

He feels very relaxed afterwards.

I look down on the garden, sadly inaccessible due to damage from the recent Typhoon.

This afternoon, we plan on looking for Mount Fuji.

On the 13th of December, in Sweden, the festivities of Lucia Day begin early in the morning, with costumed children bringing their parents breakfast in bed. But the holiday continues, with Lucia processions in schools, hospitals, offices, factories, even on flights.

There are also Lucia competitions, with young women vying to represent their community.

Perhaps the most spectacular of these takes place in Stockholm where the city's Lucia is crowned by the writer who three days earlier was awarded that year's Nobel Prize in Literature.

Symbolising the light of faith and the promise of the sun's return,

Santa Lucia has become a Swedish icon of winter, nearly as popular as Jultomte, the Swedish Santa Claus.

Flowering Grass

YORKSHIRE FOG or Holcus lanatus.

On a tour in our garden last Summer, in between two showers, I found these grasses, they love this type of weather, thrive on it! Very common in grassland and moorland, also in waste ground and neglected gardens.

The birds must have brought in the seeds, or they glided in on the wind...

When I looked closely, I saw all the beautiful colours, the shimmer... the beauty!

Decided I could make a lovely, strong and graphic design, comp in camera.

Up close and personal, there's beauty in everything? (well most...lol.)

LEISURE...

#AbFav_SUMMER_FUN

"Leisure" is a poem by Welsh poet W. H. Davies, appearing originally in his Songs Of Joy and Others, published in 1911.

What is this life if, full of care,

We have no time to stand and stare.

No time to stand beneath the boughs

And stare as long as sheep or cows.

No time to see, when woods we pass,

Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass.

No time to see, in broad daylight,

Streams full of stars, like skies at night.

No time to turn at Beauty's glance,

And watch her feet, how they can dance.

No time to wait till her mouth can

Enrich that smile her eyes began.

A poor life this if, full of care,

We have no time to stand and stare.

The gentleman smoking his pipe, on the upper-deck of the Ferry.

I also love staring at the sea, the sound of the wind in my hair and ears.

The girl is on the other-side of Ostend, enjoying the sun.

Summer or winter, I LOVE IT!

It gives me time for musing and evoke memories.

Every year, in Leeds, Yorkshire there was a German Market for Christmas.

Sady NOT this year

This Kindelmarket is one of the most established German Christmas Markets in the UK, with traditional wooden stalls, festive greenery, Christmas carousel ride and twinkling colourful lights all creating a unique continental festive atmosphere in the heart of Leeds city centre.

The fragrance of pine, food and glue-wine is attractive!

Glass baubles, wooden toys and colourful candles from Continental Europe are a jolly note in this otherwise dark month of December.

A great atmosphere.

How I remember the thrill and feeling in my tummy when swinging in these littles seats, haha.
