All of the dead surf boards and the baby avocados that fall from the trees. Why do they do that? They're so cute!! And they get stuck in the cleats of my bike shoes.

Running short on time and ingredients, I decided to swap an avocado for mozzarella and the results were fantastic! It made a gorgeous salad, especially with a bit of balsamic vinegar drizzled over the top. And it tasted great too! It’s actually a good alternative for lactose-intolerant foodies who still crave the creamy texture combined with a firm tomato.

After many attempts of trying to grow an avocado plant from the seed of the fruit, I was finally successful! My secret? I pulled my book on houseplants off the bookshelf and followed their recommendations!

Such a funny picture.

Last month I potted up a couple avocado pits in Sphagnum and last week one of the pits opened. I almost threw it out thinking nothing as growing. But if you look closely there is a seeding just starting to peak out between the two parts of the original pit.

...avocado, carrot, cucumber, spring onion, and dill pickle maki. (I don't know why, but I tend to put tiny slices of pickles in my veggie maki. It's good!)

You can't see them easily here but there are some fruits on this tree. Not all the avocados in the grove were fruiting at this time of year.

I grew this plant from a seed pit back in 2004. For more pictures, search my photostream for "avocado"

Back in July 2005, I told my mom that I want an avocado tree and guess what she said?

She found 2 seeds in the compost pile that were sprouting and she planted them. She told me that they are under the plum tree. So I checked it out and what do you know... we have a couple of avocado plants...
