Avignon Opera
The Avignon Opera is a performance hall built during the 19th century on the Place de l'Horloge in Avignon. In 1824, on the ruins of the former Benedictine abbey of Saint-Laurent, a building was built with a Greco-Roman style facade adorned with two superimposed colonnades. This new theater burned down in 1846. The municipality decided to have it rebuilt on the same site. On the front of the building stand the statues of Molière and Pierre Corneille.
