Railway service here was opened on 1849 March 5 by the Compagnie du chemin de fer de Marseille à Avignon, a predecessor of the Compagnie des chemin de fer de Paris à Lyon et à la Méditerranée (also known as "Paris-Lyon-Méditerranée," PLM).
The current station was built in 1860. The architect was Louis-Jules Bouchot (Louis Jules CĂ©sar "Louis-Jules" Bouchot, 1817-1907), who also designed the Nice-Ville station.
