The historic centre, which includes the Palais des Papes, the cathedral, and the Pont d'Avignon, became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995. The medieval monuments and the annual Festival d'Avignon have helped to make the town a major centre for tourism.
Avignon is best known as the "popes' city" where many popes had chosen to live here instead of Rome. But, to me, the most intriguing thing was its fanatic scene of poster-posting. Literally every square inch of public walls was covered by layers of posters advertising different events. Here a waiter and a waitress were flirting in front of a poster-covered wall near the Palace of Popes "Palais des Papes".
