Here's my view out over Avignon from the Rocher des Doms garden -- with the sounds of little kids playing and feeding the ducks in the background. I sat up on the wall here, basking in the sun and writing in my journal, for about a half-hour, enjoying the scene. The skies were uniformly hazy the entire time we were in France -- lots of woodsmoke, I think, as something ALWAYS seemed to be burning on the horizon -- & sometimes it made for crappy photography, but here it looks kind of nice.
Avignon [aviˈɲɔ̃] ist eine Stadt in der Provence in Südfrankreich am östlichen Ufer der Rhône mit knapp 90.000 Einwohnern. Sie ist Sitz der Präfektur des Départements Vaucluse.
Die charmante Altstadt von Avignon mit ihren prächtigen, mittelalterlichen Häusern ist von einer intakten und imposanten Befestigungsmauer umgeben. Die Altstadt mit dem gotischen Papstpalast (Palais des Papes) aus dem 14. Jahrhundert und der berühmten Brücke Pont St. Bénézet zählt zum UNESCO-Weltkulturerbe.

Dans un bourg de province, la famille Maurin se prépare à fêter le réveillon de Noël. Michel, le père et sa fille, Solange, attendent le fils, Pascal, qu’ils n’ont pas vu depuis deux ans. Ce dernier qui fait une brillante carrière à Paris, doit arriver accompagné de sa fiancée. Le couple parisien qui se présente annonce la naissance prochaine de leur bébé. Les choses ne se passent pas comme prévu.

Avignone è una città della Francia meridionale, capoluogo e centro più popoloso del dipartimento di Vaucluse.
Abitata sin dal III millennio a.c., mantenne però scarsa importanza fino al medioevo, quando fu per parecchi secoli l'unico punto di collegamento alla Francia settentrionale grazie al suo celebre ponte sul Rodano, che le portò una notevole ricchezza grazie ai pedaggi imposti per il suo attraversamento.
Fu sede papale dal 1309 al 1423.
