Owing to their memorable and unusual style and appearance, A Flock of Seagulls are sometimes referred to with ironic appreciation. The New Musical Express wrote: "Of course, everyone remembers this group now for singer Mike Score's ridiculous back-combed haircut and the fact that they are mentioned in Pulp Fiction. So now they're kind of cool, but in the early 1980s it was a different story." Additionally, the band was featured on Viacom's VH1 and Sony's BMG Legacy Recordings' 2006 revival CD series and multi-platform marketing campaign, "We Are the 80's". In a 2007 article for The Guardian, Alfred Hickling described the group as "dreadful", and unfavourably compared them to Liverpool new wave peers OMD and other acts of the time.

Their dramatic style has drawn much criticism and parody, but the band has also been recognized as a pioneering act, capturing the spirit of their time, particularly with the guitar work of Paul Reynolds and sonically multi-layered hits such as "Space Age Love Song," "Telecommunication," and "Modern Love Is Automatic." The band also is noted for creating a successful concept album, their debut, which alludes to an alien invasion of earth. Billboard writer Robert Christgau applauded their "mechanical lyrics, about a mechanical end of the world," while noting the "aural pleasure" of both the band's debut album and the follow-up.

This lower portion of Christine Falls tumbles 37 feet. It is just one of several impressive falls along Van Trump creek. The creek flows from the Van Trump glacier on it's way down steep terrain to the Nisqually river. One of the special visual and aural treats in Rainier National Park.

"The falls were named in honor of Christine Van Trump, the daughter of P. B. Van Trump. In 1889 Christine, then nine years old, accompanied her father on an ascent of Mount Rainier, as far as her strength would allow. She made it to the 10,000-foot (3,000 m) level, even though she had a crippling nervous disorder."

Just before late afternoon shadows swallowed the scene, G 513 supplies aural thrills while thrashing up the Goulburn River valley with an empty rail train.

With ongoing droughts having a massive impact on grain movements, this was an unexpected bonus amongst the sea of Hunter Valley coal trains.

The 645-powered G class from the mid 80's are effectively a locally produced SD40-2 in a smaller full-width carbody - one of a series of similar JT26C-2SS Australian designs produced for many of the then-State-owned rail systems. Most survive under private operator ownership today.

The Walt Disney Concert Hall at 111 South Grand Avenue in Downtown Los Angeles, California, is the fourth hall of the Los Angeles Music Center. Bounded by Hope Street, Grand Avenue, and 1st and 2nd Streets, it seats 2,265 people and serves (among other purposes) as the home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic orchestra and the Los Angeles Master Chorale.

The project was launched in 1992, when Lillian Disney, widow of Walt Disney, donated $50 million. Frank Gehry delivered completed designs in 1991. Construction of the underground parking garage began in 1992 and was completed in 1996. The garage cost had been $110 million, and was paid for by Los Angeles County, which sold bonds to provide the garage under the site of the planned hall.Construction of the concert hall itself stalled from 1994 to 1996 due to lack of fundraising. Additional funds were required since the construction cost of the final project far exceeded the original budget. Plans were revised, and in a cost-saving move the originally designed stone exterior was replaced with a less costly metal skin. The needed fundraising restarted in earnest in 1996—after the real estate depression passed—headed up by Eli Broad and then-mayor Richard Riordan and groundbreaking for the hall was held in December 1999. Delay in the project completion caused many financial problems for the county of LA. The city expected to repay the garage debts by revenue coming from the Disney Hall parking users.

Upon completion in 2003, the project cost an estimated $274 million; the parking garage alone cost $110 million. The remainder of the total cost was paid by private donations, of which the Disney family's contribution was estimated to $84.5 million with another $25 million from The Walt Disney Company. By comparison, the three existing halls of the Music Center cost $35 million in the 1960s (about $190 million in today's dollars).

What an awesome display! What started out as a vibrant green glow turned into a stunning Aural display, but not with out its challenges, wind, cloud and snow made it challenging to get some good images. Eventually it cleared up nicely.

These two mōlī were banded and identified as O013 at left, a male banded as an adult in 2004 at Kuaokala, and V830, banded as an adult at Ka’ena in 2021.

Rather than evoking a sense of Parisien charm all this evokes for me is a sense of impending aural intrusion followed by a request for cash.

Sonic Rescue Ropes by Haegue Yang

Consisting of gleaming cords of bells, Haegue Yang’s Sonic Rescue Ropes stretch from ceilings of different heights all the way down to the floor. Their shiny visual effect and sublime, resonating sounds conjure shamanistic and pagan associations. Yang took inspiration from the traditional Korean folk tale Sister Sun and Brother Moon, which describes how two siblings became celestial bodies by climbing ropes from the heavens to escape danger on the ground. Yang’s multisensory abstract sculptures transform the soaring architecture of the museum into a mystical yet common civilizational space of aural storytelling and cosmic orientation.

We're trying something new.

Live music has been around in Second Life since the early 2000s, but since then overall the live music experience hasn't changed much - someone works hard to secure land and builds a venue, hires a musician, schedules an event - and for an hour they both hope they can capture the time and attention of listeners.

Our virtual world affords us a chance to get to know each other via chat during the live session, but beyond that it's usually time and connections metered by the hour.

We'd like to give friends, fans, and our fellow musicians just a little more time and space to connect both personally and musically. That's why we're opening auralism.

Every other Sunday, auralism will host a featured artist. Together we'll have a live, hosted conversation to learn a little more about the artist: their music, muses and motivations. A special live session will follow, and then for two weeks, that artist will be featured at the auralism venue in world, and on our site.

Our hope is that through this small change musicians and fans will get to know each other a little more, and deepen their shared appreciation of each other, the music, and this special community we share.

The other area where we are recording sounds is Sanaullah Compound, closer to Mahim railway station, where many kinds of recycling units are stacked against each other. Here, the shredding of plastic, the burning of aluminium furnaces and the sacks of scrap being thrown down from trucks are frequently heard. The screeching sounds from rusty shredding machines make one wonder how the labourers can work without the use of earplugs. For these labourers, most of whom are migrants, Sanaullah is work and home. A little shack of a restaurant, paan kiosks, barbers, an ironing man, chai stalls and various other essentials of daily living function side by side. Against this background, the aural predominance is of men talking business (or gossiping) over phones or with each other. Understandably, they don’t want their conversations recorded.

Walking around trying to be inconspicuous with a recorder in our hands, we realised that some sounds are bound to perish with time and modern lifestyles, such as the sounds of game machines in a very 90s video parlour or the bell of a kulfi seller. Collecting these sounds could be a way of creating an aural museum and complementing visual archives of Dharavi.

I like that Stellantis even has a Dodge sedan/coupé-like vehicle available on the market. I also like its appearance. And it’s a 2-door design.

It’s rather impressive that the current Dodge Charger can be had in a version with 670 hp that can attain 60 mph within 3.3 seconds and has a standing start quarter mile ET of 11-1/2 seconds.

Reading about the features though, I find it somewhat comical that the electric vehicles are supplemented by “Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust” that creates an aural sensation similar to that of an internal combustion engine and “Force Generators” that artificially create a tactile ‘rumble’ felt through the steering wheel and seats. Really? Why?

ZackHerrmann's shows are always a remarkable surround experience of visual and aural vibrance. His newest exhibit, entitled 'Linda Cluster: Entomology,' opened today at The Hannington Arts Foundation.

Zack's art pieces range from surreal, abstract, and representational insect projects to a 60 meter high wall simply dripping with stunning paintings, vivacious colours and ever expanding particles. Zack wove a mesmerizing blend of music and sound effects at the opening: Bulgarian choral music fused with drummy beats, orthodox chants with atonal orchestrations, and he even slid in one of his custom Bjork remixes.
