Photos from the 2012 Indianapolis Colts training camp, held at Anderson University August 15, 2012. Gone were the regulars at the training camp, with new players and free agents taking their place. Reggie Wayne and Adam Vinatieri returned to compliment newcomers like Stanford rookie quarterback Andrew Luck and of course the new head coach Chuck Pagano and temporary head coach Bruce Arians. The season ended up relatively successful, with the Colts going 11-5, good enough for second place in the AFC South.

At 9:20PM, on July 4, 2020, the Los Angeles City Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 8600 block of N Wilbur Ave in Northridge. Firefighters arrived to find a two-story apartment building with heavy fire showing on the 2nd floor.
Crews immediately initiated simultaneous evacuation and fire attack operations with four different critical actions needed; evacuate the structure, knock down the tree fire to stop the spread of dangerous embers, extinguish the structure fire and defend the second half of the complex from the encroaching flames.
The burning palm trees, known fire hazards due to the dead fronds which stay attached to the tree, released embers which carried onto the second building and started a fire on the roof. Firefighters were vigilant and quickly doused it with water to prevent the fire from taking root.
81 firefighters, under the command of Assistant Chief John Drake, battled for 43 minutes before declaring a knockdown. The two building complex suffered extensive damage in one building (8 units) while the dedicated efforts of all those involved defended the second building (8 units) from damage.
Firefighter/paramedics evaluated five patients and transported three for smoke related respiratory difficulties. Approximately 50 residents were displaced and Red Cross Los Angeles responded to provide them immediate assistance as needed.
LAFD Arson and Counter-Terrorism Section conducted an investigation and determined the cause of the fire was due to the use of illegal fireworks igniting the tree fire which extended into the structure.

At the Manchester Flickr meet, I took a wander along the canal from the centre of town out towards Castlefield. Just as we approached Eastgate House I spotted the sun coming through and lighting up these arches and wanted to grab a shot to show off the brilliant warm sunshine coming through at high level.
The only way that I could get what I wanted was to take 5 exposures at ±0.7 intervals and then blend the exposures in photomatix rather than going for a HDR processing.
Import into LightRoom and then nominal tweaking to correct a small area of sky that had blown despite stopping down the overall exposures by half a stop before bracketing.
I'm really pleased with the tones in the arches as that's the part I wanted to catch as the sunlight had such a warmth for a few minutes which was not typical of the day at all.
At a Lenten Exhibit in the Chancery of the Malolos Cathedral, Bulacan. Daily from 8 am to 7:30 pm, until March 19th, 2018. Organized by the Kapisanan ng Pasyon at Pagkabuhay.
Besides it raining half the time, it was still an amazing experience. I didn't have my camera out much, so i got a chance to wonder around and check out the all the different shops and manufacturer tents with all their historic race cars that used to dominate this track. The cars were not running 100% due to the weather, but at least the last few hours the weather got better, so they were able to get back on the pedal.

India's consul general in Melbourne Subhakanta Behera, 50, died Friday after a heart attack at his residence in the Australian city, leaving the Indian community there shocked.
The 1987-batch Indian Foreign Service officer is survived by wife Rajashree, son Ananya and daughter Amruta.
Behera's family want to cremate him in hometown Bhubaneswar in Odisha, said an official of the Ministry for External Affairs (MEA).
"The consulate will facilitate the family's return to India," the official said.
Behera, who had a doctorate from Oxford University, was appointed the Indian consul general to Melbourne in May last year.
In his career, Behera held key postings in Moscow, Washington and London, besides postings in Uzbekistan and Bulgaria. He had returned to New Dehli as MEA joint secretary.
Behera was also a writer -- having published stories, poetry anthologies, essay collections, a novel and two academic papers.

Exhibition of Murano glassware at the Nan Lian Garden. It came from La Vetreria Bisanzio glass factory (est 1816).
Nan Lian Garden is situated at Diamond Hill in Kowloon. The Garden and the Chi Lin Nunnery to the north together back on to the sprawling northern mountain range. Hammer Hill Road borders the Garden to the east, Lung Cheung Road to the south, and Hollywood Plaza, a large shopping mall, to the west. The Garden opens to the west. An MTR station is just opposite the Main Gate.
The Garden is a designated public park, with an area of 35,000 square metres. It was designed and built by the Chi Lin Nunnery, entrusted by the Government, and was opened to the public in November 2006. It is currently managed by the Chi Lin Nunnery, also entrusted by the Government.
The Garden is built in the classical style of the Tang Dynasty (618 AD to 907 AD), on the blue print of Jiangshouju, the only Tang landscape garden the original layout of which can still be placed and traced today, and the shape of which bears a significant resemblance to the Garden site. Hills and rocks, waters, plants and timber structures are built and arranged according to classical Tang style and rules, accommodating the local environment, and the best view of the sprawling mountain range to the north is taken as the seamless backdrop.
The Garden is a Tang garden built in modern times, its architecture and landscaping reminiscent of nature and conducive towards a sense of serenity and tranquility, an ambience in which visitors may enjoy a moment of leisure and peace of mind, whilst reflecting on the profound richness of classical Chinese culture, right in the midst of the urban city hustle and bustle. It is hoped this will help promote the knowledge of and interest in classical Chinese culture.

IUPUI cheerleaders at the college basketball game against IPFW played in Indianapolis, Indiana February 19, 2009 in a gym more affectionately known as "The Jungle." IUPUI won by 2 points in a close game.
Shot at an 18U softball tourney in Ft Worth, TX. The baserunner slid by the bag and briefly her hand lost its grip. The shortstop then dove after her in an attempt to get the late tag. The baserunner was safe.
Many of these fields show a lot of dust - while dramatic for photos is not necessarily great for the players. The organizers did a poor job of field maintenance - they chalked the fields each day only once at the beginning of each day and never watered down the fields. By the end of the tournament, the girls were playing in a "sandbox". The area in front of the pitcher's rubber and the batters boxes had 3 - 4" holes.

Our first whack at homeschooling involved purchasing a packaged curriculum from Calvert School. There stuff is great if you need someone to hold your hand. After using it for about a year, I don't want it any more. That doesn't mean I don't recommend it... it's just not necessary for our family any longer. This is us hamming it up for the camera.
Exhibits at the Monterey Bay Aquarium
The stunning one-million-gallon Outer Bay exhibit is home to the largest community of open-ocean animals to be found in any aquarium. Giant bluefin tuna power their way through the water. Hammerhead sharks circle inches away. Sea turtles cruise lazily by.
The Outer Bay also features the largest permanent collection of jellyfish species in the United States. Egg-yolk jellies and sea nettles drift gently in ten-foot-long exhibits beautifully lit to accentuate the jellies' delicate beauty. Comb jellies pulse with rainbow bands of light as they swim.
In the past, a wonderful exhibit of Jelly Fish and most recently “The Secret Life of Seahorses”; always something exciting to see at the Monterey Bay Aquarium.
I stopped at the Container Store today after another errand. It was my first time and I was apprehensive. I wandered the aisles for awhile, looking for useful things and trying to think about our storage needs. I was afraid it was going to be ridiculously expensive, but all together everything was only forty bucks.
Last week Andy got two brand new, identical monitors for his desk, and he gave me his widescreen. So now I use that as my main monitor, and my old, regular-sized one as the second. To fit the two monitors, I had to get rid of an IKEA dokument. I spent some time going through all the paper that had collected in two of the trays, using expandable folders leftover from my teaching days. I used one of them to collecting the growing pile of paperwork associated with all of the business stuff. That folder is now on the top right shelf for easy access/drop-in. The top level of the tray collected an assortment of trinkets and things, and some of them I put away and some of it I still don't have a home for. Nor do I have a home for the letter tray itself. It can go in my giveaway pile.
Today I bought a few clear plastic shoeboxes for storage in our bathroom/hall closet, because it is a mess, and the smaller bins I have in there are overflowing. I put one together tonight--all our medicine/pharmacy-type things--but there is SO much more work to do in there. Mostly getting rid of old makeup-type crap.
I also wanted some storage options for my desk, and I ended up with two medium stacking bins plus a slim paper file. Previously I had upright things just leaning, and an assortment of crap holding the vertical stuff up. Which meant things were in a jumble and constantly falling over. So going vertical with the smaller stuff storage was important. However, pretty much all of the storage pieces were large and flat, or large and tall and wide--and I need smallish and vertical. So the bottom one holds random stuff like pens, earphones, etc, while the top holds the stapler, tape dispenser, notepads, and the tiny bowl which has work keys and binder clips. The top left shelf used to have a precariously balanced full pencil bin, and now it's two pen cups, kleenex, and envelopes.
Overall it looks and feels SO much clearer and cleaner! I love that feeling. Except that then I look around at all the other places that need this kind of attention and I feel depressed, because it's everywhere. Oh well, baby steps. This is really good progress for me, and it'll be good motivation to keep going, in small bits.
Oh, and if you need some inspiration, flip through Unfuck Your Habitat. Seeing that occasionally has gotten the declutter/cleanup bug seeped into my head here and there.
