A hillock adjacent to Palani hills. On the top of it is a small temple dedicated to Idumban.

Idumban belong to asura group. After the war between God Murugan and asuras Idumban repented & became a devotee of the God.

This hill is gaining attention these days. It is totally dry and hot, no shops, no water, no shade and much less space on the top.

My previous upload--Sulphur Cosmos--got more than 33,800 views in three days and I dont know how and why!

Shot it at "Gajan Fair".

Gajan a Shaivite folk festival, held on CHAITRA SANGKRANTI (the last day of Chaitra..according to eng calendar ,its in middle of april) and on full moon nights up to the full moon of Asadh. The festival is associated with various gods. There may thus be SHIVA's Gajan, the Gajan of DHARMA THAKUR, the Gajan of Nil etc. But the main object of this festival is to celebrate the marriage of the sun and the earth. The reason for this festival is perhaps to appease the sun and pray for rain during the hot, dry month of Chaitra.

The festival is arranged on the premises of Shiva temples. Those who take part in the festival after making vows are called sannyasi or bhaktya. They take sacrificial food and wear uturi (wrappers). Each one holds a staff. They try to satisfy the god through different acts of penance, such as piercing their tongues with nails, jumping upon thorns, walking on burning charcoal, etc. CHADAK PUJA is performed on the occasion of the Gajan festival. During this festival, processions are brought out from the premises of the temple of Shiva and taken to other villages. A pair of processionists take the roles of Shiva and Gauri and render dances. Other bhaktyas take the roles of Nandi, Bhrngi, ghosts and spirits, monsters and demons and dance along with Shiva and Gauri. During this time different verses are recited narrating the story of how Shiva's sleep was disturbed and going on to his marriage, his agricultural activities etc. This festival usually lasts for three days. During the gajan on Chaitra Samkranti, Kali dances are also performed in some places describing how the goddess slaughtered the monster Asura.

History:

Mahishasura Mardini is the incarnation of Goddess Durga who had taken birth to kill the asura king Mahisasura. Mahishasura was the king who ruled the kingdom of Mahisha or Mahishaka. According to Hindu Puranas, Mahisha was the son of an asura King Rambha who had fallen in love with a beautiful female buffalo named Shyamala. Shyamala was a princess who became a water buffalo due to the curse. Rambha due to his magical powers took the form of a male buffalo and by their union Mahisha was born with the head of a buffalo and human body. Mahishasura has the magical power to take the form of buffalo and human according to his wish. In Sanskrit language, Mahisha means Buffalo.

Mahishasura ruined the life of humans and conquered Earth (Prithvi Lokam) as well as Deva Loka (Swarga Lokam) by attacking Lord Indra, the King of Devas. All Gods and Goddess approached Lord Vishnu for a solution. Thus the powers of Trimurtis - the Trinity of Lord Brahma, Vishnu and Mahadeva - joined together for the creation of Goddess Durga (Mahamaya).

Goddess Durga was incarnated with ten arms, each having different warriors with Lion as her vehicle and possesses the power to destroy the demon rakshas Mahisha. Durga Maa went to fight with Mahisha and at the end of the fierce fight she got victory over Mahishasura. Thus Durga got the name Mahishasuramardini (The one who killed demon Mahisha). As Goddess save the world from the demon, Durga came to be known as the Mother of the Universe who embodies the primeval source of all power.

Do you like Guild Wars 2 ? I do, and so do my boyfriend.

I sculpted his own Asura character as an OOAK doll for his birthday.

My favorite race is the Charr but Asuras are so cute !

Take a look at the figure's right leg in this pose. See how the gold thing at the top of her boot has slipped off? Expect that to happen a lot.

The bits of her dress in front and in back have little posing wires, which you are practically forced to use to do anything interesting with the figure.

Overall, I have to say I'm a little disappointed by the Raksa set. There are pieces of it that are really nice (like the headsculpt) but a whole lot of things in it that could have been better. Considering that I don't even play the video game, I'm not sure she's really worth the price they're asking for her.

3/4 profile view. I like the really fine detailing like her eyebrows and eyelashes and the little mole underneath her eye.

PLEASE, no multi invitations (none is better) in your comments. Thanks.

Actually, it's all new lol.

I was wearing the Blueberry Breeanna dress when I got the vest from Emery and decided I wanted to wear it with a shorter version. Turns out that is the Sophia dress, same idea with less options, but I went over and got it right away. Paired it with the vest, my new Abigail boots from Phedora, my Deva Asura necklace from (luc) and my new Twyla animated hair from Little Bones. All in all a good day at Uber.

Hindu mythology contains a story about the churning of the Cosmic Ocean in order to obtain Amrita - the nectar of immortal life. At the suggestion of Vishnu the gods, (devas) and demons (asuras) churn the primeval ocean in order to obtain Amrita which will guarantee them immortality. To churn the ocean they used the Serpent King, Vasuki, for their churning-string. For a churning pole they use Mount Mandara placed on the back of a Great Tortoise - the Kurma Avatar of Vishnu. As the gods and demons churned the sea, a terrible poison issued out of its depths which enveloped the universe. The devas and asuras approach Shiva who took the poison into his throat and swallowed it. Shocked by his act, Goddess Parvati strangled his neck and hence managed to stop it in his neck and prevent it from spreading. However, the poison was so potent that it changed the colour of his neck to blue, thereby earning him the name of Neelakanta (blue-throated one).[3] When the Amrita finally emerged along with several other treasures the devas and asuras fought over it. However Vishnu in the form of Mohini the enchantress manages to lure the asuras into handing over the Amrita to her, which she then distributes to the devas. Rahu, an asura, disguises himself as a deva and tries to drink some Amrita himself. Surya (the sun-god) and Chandra (the moon-god) alert Vishnu to this deception. Vishnu then decapitates Rahu just as he is about to swallow the nectar, leaving only his head immortal.-wiki

Goddesses, supernatural animals and valuables that emerged from the churning of ocean are, Lakhsmi, Apsaras,Varuni,Kamadenu,Parijat, bow, Chandra,Dhanvantri and Halahala(Poison).

According to Wikipedia, Rakshasa were mythological beings that appear in stories in India and China. They can be good or evil, but most tended to be evil and known as "man-eaters" for their tendency to prey on people. I knew of them from the Dungeons and Dragons monster, which was a real nasty evil thing for an adventurer to run into.

Sandhi Puja -

An integral and important part of Durga Puja, Sandhi Puja is performed at the juncture of the 8th and 9th lunar day. Sandhi puja lasts from the last 24 minutes of Ashtami till the first 24 minutes of Nabami. During this juncture (the "Sandhikhan"), Durga is worshipped in her Chamunda form. Devi Durga killed, Chando and Mundo, the two asuras at "Sandhikhan" and thus acquired the name of "Chamunda".

Myth behind Durga being worshipped as Chamunda -

While the Goddess and Mahishasura were engaged in a fierce battle, the two generals of Mahisha, Chando and Mundo attacked the Devi from the the rear. Durga appeared to them, a brilliantly glowing woman with her hair knotted on her head, a crescent moon above her forehead, a 'tilak' on her forehead and a garland around her neck. With golden earrings and clad in a yellow saari she emitted a golden glow. Her ten hands possessed ten different weapons. Though she appeared beautiful her face turned blue with anger when she faced Chondo and Mundo. From her third eye then emerged a Devi with a large falchion and a shield. She had a large face, bloody tongue and sunken blood shot eyes. She was Chamunda. With a bloodcurdling shriek she leapt forward and killed them. This moment was the juncture of the 8th and 9th lunar day.

Age old yardsticks for measuring the "Sandhikhan" -

Long back devotees in order to perform the Sandhi Puja at the exact juncture used a number of methods. With the last 24 mins. of the Ashtami puja still left, a bronze bowl with a tiny hole was placed in a bucket full of water. The bowl with the tiny hole was made in such a way that it took exactly 24 minutes for the bowl to submerge in the water. The moment the bowl submerged in the water cannon balls were

fired announcing this moment of Sandhi Puja. This yardstick for measuring the "Sandhikhan" was very popular ages ago in many "Rajbaris". Many "Rajbaris", including, the zamindar of Sutanuti of Sobhabajar Rajbari fired cannon balls to announce the "Sandhikhan". People around Sobhabajar waited for this indication to proceed with their puja. King of Krishnanagar, Raja Krishna Chandra, was given the

cannon of Plassey as a gift from Robert Clive. In Shikharbhum Rajbari a platter with vermillion (sindur) used to be kept in front of the Devi. It is said the foot prints of the Devi could be seen in the platter. This moment indicated the commencement of Sandhi Puja. Sabarno Raychoudhury of Barisha worshipped the Chamunda Devi by burning 'Layta' and 'Pholui' (types of fishes) fishes.

Things needed to perform Sandhi Puja -

Sandhi Puja requires 108 lotus flowers, a single fruit, dry rice grain for "noibiddo", 108 earthen lamps, clothes, jewelry, hibiscus garlands and wood apple (bel) leaves. The almost non existent rituals which underwent changes with the changes in the society can still be seen in some of the 200-250 year old Pujas.
