On the left side of image you can see the steam and gasses rising from the largest active volcano in Japan. It is among the largest in the world. It stands in Aso Kujū National Park in Kumamoto Prefecture, on the island of Kyūshū. Its peak is 1592 m above sea level. Aso has one of the largest calderas in the world (25 km north-south and 18 km east-west).[1] The caldera has a circumference of around 120 km (75 mi).

阿蘇山の風景

this is by aso city hall.

 

I believe one of the thing the city is famous for is its water? because how the city is situated inside a volcano caldera and the volcanic rock purifies the water completely. this is my guess. their water does taste very very clean I have to say.
