Marseille, expo "Art de la Rue" ...

This is my friend Ash. He doesn't like having his picture taken. My family and I met up with him and his family last weekend at the Matlock Victorian Christmas Fair. Lots of fun. When his children were on the trampolines, (not particularly Victorian - but there you go) he was gazing in through the safety netting but really, off in his own little world. I thought this made an interesting shot. This is the moment he spotted me but before the recognition of what I was doing hit.

It was also the last time I got out with the 50mm f/1.8. I gave it back yesterday :(

Hope to catch up with you all soon.

Same family as Uk ash trees. Fakahatchee State Preserve Park - The Fakahatchee Strand is a linear swamp forest, approximately twenty miles long by five miles wide and oriented from north to south. It has been sculpted by the movement of water for thousands of years and clean fresh water is the key to its existence. Beneath a protective canopy of bald cypress trees flows a slow moving, shallow river or slough that is warmer than the ambient temperature in the winter and cooler in the summer. The buffering effect of the slough and the deeper lakes that punctuate it shield the forest interior from extreme cold temperatures and this fosters a high level of rare and endangered tropical plant species. www.floridastateparks.org/fakahatcheestrand/

I started six days in the Lake District with a photograph of perhaps the most photographed packhorse bridge in the Lakes. Perhaps even, in the country.

The Ash Ranges are a huge area of heath and woodland shared between the British Army and the locals. This particular part of the ranges is open from time to time to the public, when the British Army aren't actively training.

Ash

Frankfurt/Main 2013

An ash-rich eruption from the south crater. In the morning, a large explosion with a glowing ash cloud unblocked a main vent, and the first few eruptions after the vent opener were rich in ash, although the plumes quickly got brigher again later in the morning.

The natural colouring of this species ranges from a creamy white to a light brown, with broad sapwood that often graduates almost indistinguishably into heart wood.

These are hand finished and waxed engineered ash T&G wood flooring in Classic grade.

Star Of The Week

The Most Rev. Joseph R. Cistone, Bishop of Saginaw, celebrated Ash Wednesday Mass at the Cathedral of Mary of the Assumption in Saginaw on Feb. 18. To mark the beginning of the penitential season of Lent, Catholics receive ashes on their foreheads as a sign of repentance and mortality. The ashes come from blessed palms that were distributed last year on Palm Sunday and later burned.

The Church emphasizes the penitential nature of Lent and Catholics who are between the ages of 18 and 59 are called to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, meaning they should eat only one full meal and two smaller meals without eating between meals. Also, all who are 14 and older are called to abstain from eating beef, pork, poultry and food made from animal fat on those days and all Fridays during Lent.

Ashness Bridge is a traditional stone-built bridge on the single-track road from the Borrowdale road (B5289) to Watendlath, in the English Lake District

Hanging above the water from a low branch.

From A3C3 Ypsi photostroll.

Feathery ash leaves. I'd never noticed before that the leaves grow in opposite pairs.

Ash sappling leaf printed on a wooden tag, eventually to be strung as a wearable object.

5 hour exposure. This tag was wet-printed; exposed to sunlight immediately after the chemistry was applied to the wood. There was no time given for the chemistry to begin drying.

This is the time of year in Ann Arbor when the leaves start to turn color. I have always loved the fall colors of ash trees in particular-- the way a luminous purplish glow suffuses across the canopy.

This year it's particularly poignant to see the ash fall colors, since about half of Ann Arbor's ashes have been killed by the Emerald Ash Borer. It is quite possible that by next fall, there will be no living ash trees in SE Michigan.

(Photographed, fittingly enough, on Ashley street.)
