As the seas finally subsided, the fishing boats might actually get out tomorrow! But for now, as the shadows fell, it was time to wait.
Ordinarily an image that I would have ignored, but as the secrets of PS become apparent, this had possibilities. It was a not-so-sharp Monarch, in front of the pale taupe stucco of the house. I thought the plain BG could be enhanced with a texture (and be easy to work with). After finding Kim Klassen's "Beach Texture" , I used the dry brush filter in PS and was happy with my first digital painting. Let's say that there's no way I could do this on canvas and with a brush.
The family Monarch business is in full swing! I have 36 viable chrysalis's, 17 caterpillars of various sizes and three eggs. Things are much calmer than last week when I was worried that the milkweed plants wouldn't grow fast enough to prevent the cats from starving. This is the first November in recent memory when Roger, the kids and I haven't been out hunting for sources of pesticide free milkweed. The more we plant, the more eggs the females lay :-)
Please, throw a few milkweed seeds around your garden next spring. Or check out the the Monarch Larva Monitoring Project site. Better yet, do both :-D

As you can see we visited the zoo today. It is really a challange to take pictures through a chain link fence. So if some look distorted in areas you will know why.

Leeds Pride weekend. Wow. After a far too long 3 year wait since the last one, we had been building up to this!
For me, Leeds Pride weekend is the highlight of the year. And this year it certainly didn't disappoint!
Saturday night was quite low-key because we were all preparing for the parade on the Sunday. But a group of us went to the Hifi club for our usual Saturday night comedy and for a drink in Queens Court afterwards.

As part of Australia's Bicentennial celebrations, the rail community created a magnicent Austeam88 spectacular. Based in and around Melbourne, standard gauge steam locomotives from NSW joined their Victorian broad gauge counterparts in several parallel events on the northeast rail lines.
Britain's famous "Flying Scotsman" was meant to be guest of honour, but shipping delays caused it to miss the actual event.
Near the Victorian town of Broadford, 3801 on the single standard gauge track has dashed clear of the two smaller Victorian locos on the wider broad gauge rails.
This was one of the most emotional moments I have ever witnessed within the realm of transport.
Masjid As Salam is one of the mosques in Malaysia that is built on top of a lake making a perfect location to take photograph. It is located at Puchong, Selangor, Malaysia.

PERSONAL FUN FACT: This doll is a dream come true! Growing up, I had a fancy for princess themed Barbies. Looking back, it's kind of odd that I had a fascination for them, when I preferred dressing my dolls in urban street wear. Plus I never played with my dolls as princesses....no, they were artists, and mothers. But for whatever reason, I just always found myself drooling over the princess dolls. The Princess and the Pauper line caught my attention the first time I set sights on the dolls at Toys 'R' Us. Despite drifting apart from dolls at the time, I was mesmerized. I procured Erika first, and then later returned for Anneliese, one of the last Barbies I purchased as a kid. Anyways, I have always been a collector of African American dolls. I had a tendency to gun for the AA variants of Barbies over the Caucasian ones. But I don't really recall seeing these African American Princess and the Pauper dolls in stores. I'm sure I did, but it probably took a while. I remember Dad had to make a special trip out to Toys 'R' Us just for my African American Swan Lake Odette, since the AA doll shipment came weeks after the Caucasian one. I would always ogle pictures of these dolls online, and was rather offended that they were not featured in my "Barbie Doll Photo Album" (only the Caucasian dolls were). But honestly I never thought I 'd get my hands on an African American Princess and the Pauper doll. Opening day at the flea market in 2019 seemed like it would be a bust. We were halfway through the aisles and had hardly seen any doll stuff. I was feeling discouraged when I noticed what looked like a doll sticking out of a container. The plastic bin was placed at the back of someone's boot, with a pile of junk on top. My dolly senses tingled, and I left Colleen who had walked right past. Even though I thought that this doll might just be some uninteresting porcelain creature, I had to go over. As I approached my heart skipped a beat, it was an African American Barbie. To boot, she was wearing an Anneliese dress. I thought to myself, "Could this really be?!!!" I picked her up and saw that her necklace was still intact, and I could feel her button on her back which makes her sing. The man saw how interested I was (and Colleen who had caught up with me). He informed us that there were more dolls in the bin, and he was selling them all for $10. After removing the junk from the top of the bin, I saw African American King Dominick. I had my wallet out with money in hand before even surveying the rest of the dolls. At $10, that meant $5 for Dominick and Anneliese a piece, a worthy price. While we found oodles of other amazing dolls in said lot (like an assortment of awesome Disney finds), the Princess and the Pauper dolls were the most notable, thus why we named it the "Princess and the Pauper Lot."

"Product advertisement"
This was a bit harder than I expected. I knew I wanted a bit of a challenge. I figured I would try to highlight a local/regional brand (this is a microbrew from Lakeland, which is about midway between Orlando and Tampa). I could have done a wine bottle, but those can be a bit cliche (even though they aren't exactly easy to light well). I learned aluminum cans aren't easy to light either.
This gave me an opportunity to play around with my off camera flash and some modifiers, but I just didn't have decent space to move and position them as they probably should have been. And unfortunately I don't really have the time to play around some more this weekend. I do have a few other ideas, but maybe for a later date. Also, I learned how to remote capture directly to the laptop, so that really helped.
As its name suggests, the Pasqueflower (Pulsatilla vulgaris) blooms around Easter-time. The purple petals surround a tuft of yellow stamens, and are followed by distinctive and long-lasting silvery seed heads.
An alternative name for the Pasqueflower is Danes Blood. Legend has it that it grows on the graves of Viking warriors, springing from their blood. Pasqueflowers certainly do have a preference for earthworks and barrows, but this is probably due to their need for undisturbed chalk grassland - often where such monuments are sited. This wildflower is now rare in the UK- only recorded at 19 sites, all in England. It occurs on East Anglian chalk, and in the Chilterns, Cotswolds, Cambridgeshire and Yorkshire.

For a fun interlude, this is a 2nd-take image based off of one of my popular pics posted here on flickr in the last few years. This particular image was done with the help of the FaceApp application, where I took a photo of the original "2019-03-06 video2-snap8" pic I've posted here, then just applied a very modest filter. This was done to help for example with the poor lighting or graininess in the original, or to enhance the makeup just a tad -- and of course to have some fun. What do you think? How do I look? :-)

As I passed through Chinatown today. The sound from a Chinese club house made me stopped and peaked inside. Some people in there were busy playing majong; some were busy reading newspaper. The whole atmosphere was pretty intense.
Many people from older generation still prefer reading newspaper to get their information. Many of them enjoy the process of reading word by word and row by row. Reading article from your smartphone is just not the same. It is more like scanning than reading.

As a thundery sky settles in for the evening S356SET : Scania / Irizar Century of Castle Coaches (Skipton) is snapped at the promenade coach park in St Annes on Sea on 31st August 2013.
As France’s symbol in the world, and the showcase of Paris, today it welcomes almost 7 million visitors a year, making it the most visited monument that you have to pay for in the world.
I found these identically dressed clones on the street this afternoon. They are all wearing clothes from Abercrombie and Fitch (as well as Hollister, a subsidiary company), the glasses, and grande or tall coffees from Starbucks. I showed this photo to a woman at a store they had just passed and we laughed.
Note, none of the guys are wearing green. No, I didn't want to pinch any of them.
So as with every time I learn a new technique I must try it out on poor Domo. After our last time out doing portraits with a flash I really wanted to know how to achieve better results and nicer lighting.
Turns out, flash photography is a whole new world of learning and of course buying things! So I went and got a light stand with umbrella and some wireless receivers and here we are again.
We went to the same park as the last photo trip and this time tried some off camera flash stuff. It took a while to learn and honestly I'm still trying to understand it, but we took some really cool shots I think. Here's the first one hot off the presses.
As an avid reader of 'Buses' magazine when young, one operator who intrigued me was the Moor-Dale Group from Newcastle.
It comprised three companies, these being Moor-Dale Coaches, Newcastle; Curtis of Dudley and R&M (Rochester & Marshall), Great Whittington.
Moor-Dale and Curtis seemed to operate contract, private hire and excursion & tours work while the rural R&M fleet was involved with stage carriage and schools work.
They all carried a common dark blue, red and white livery.
BBB 534V was a Bedford YLQ with Plaxton Supreme IV C45F coachwork and was one of fifteen new coaches delivered to the group for the 1980 season.
