I had a really hard time with this Zendala Dare. The pattern felt very uneven to me and it made it difficult for me to figure out how to fill in the outer sections. Now that it is done, however, I really love it.

The Egyptian Revival, like the Gothic and Classical Revival styles, was popular in American decorative arts throughout the nineteenth century, continuing into the 1920s. The major motifs of Egyptian art, such as obelisks, hieroglyphs, the sphinx, and pyramids, were used in various artistic media, including architecture, furniture, ceramics, and silver. Egyptian motifs provided an exotic alternative to the more traditional styles of the day.

The major period of Egyptomania, as scholars now refer to these periods of obsession with Egyptian antiquities, was revived with the discovery of King Tutankhamun's tomb in 1922, after which Egyptian influences pervaded modern culture. Egyptian motifs would become an integral part of the language of Art Deco, a style that would dominate the decorative arts until the mid-1930s.

Antonio Mancini (Albano Laziale, November 14, 1852 – Rome, December 28, 1930) was an Italian painter. He entered the Istituto di Belle Arti, Naples, at the age of 12; while still an adolescent he produced accomplished works such as Head of a Young Girl (1867; Naples, Capodimonte). On his graduation in 1873, Mancini, together with Francesco Paolo Michetti and Vincenzo Gemito, was at the forefront of VERISMO in Neapolitan art. Sharing a studio with Gemito, he painted the street boys, musicians and dancers of Naples, creating an anti-academic, popular art. His patron, Albert, Count Cahen of Antwerp (1846-1903), encouraged him to visit Paris in 1875, where he met Manet and Degas. After a second visit in 1877, he lightened his previously sombre palette and his style moved away from sensual modelling to become more decorative.

A painting I recieved from a trade, From Sarah J.... I really like her work, I wish everyone else could see some other stuff from her.

The pompous pose and bearing of the subject are perfectly matched by this over the top frame.

Georgio Morandi (Bologna, June 20, 1890 – Bologna, June 18, 1964) was an Italian painter who specialised in still life. In 1915, he joined the army but suffered a breakdown and was indefinitely discharged. During the war, Morandi's still lifes became more reduced in their compositional elements and purer in form. A Metaphysical painting (Pittura Metafisica) phase in Morandi's work lasted from 1918 to 1922. This was to be his last major stylistic shift; thereafter, he focused increasingly on subtle gradations of hue, tone, and objects arranged in a unifying atmospheric haze, establishing the direction his art was to take for the rest of his life.
