Like fireworks through the melting snow!!!! SPRING!!!!

On a cloudy July 26, 1968, evening, Santa Fe Train No. 23 is slowing for a station stop at Topeka, Kansas. Year-old U30CGs 400 and 404 power the Chicago to Los Angeles remnant of the GRAND CANYON. No. 23 was due into Topeka at 7:15 p.m., just 20 minutes ahead of No. 1, the westbound SAN FRANCISCO CHIEF. Photo by Joe McMillan.

Happy birthday Merrythought

2025 is Merryhtought's 95th anniversary year

For this special occasion, Merrythought released this bear

named Merrythought.

Mine arrived yesterday

Hand crafted in Merrythought, a British historical factory. The plush is mohair and the paws are made of cotton velvet

They have arrived - migrating dabbling ducks such as this Northern Pintail that is.

Today at John Heinz NWR I saw a wide variety including large flocks of pintails, shovelers, gadwalls and teals.

The journey was seven miles from Paignton to Kingswear.

The scenery was super, interesting and varied. :-))

The Cedar Waxwings didn't stop by last year so I was thrilled when they finally arrived this year. They have been chowing down on the juniper berries in our backyard.

Unfortunately, for some reason, they are very skittish this year and the only way I can get pictures is to do it through our windows. Hence, the poor quality of the image.

Amtrak 6 is cruising into town some two hours late on a beautiful morning. It's hard to beat a snow capped mountain backdrop. Helper, UT 4/15/2023

Trees changing color right before our eyes. Fall is full of surprises with the weather and brilliant colors. Thanks for viewing my work. Be kind.

Now that I am back in San Diego, I plan on doing as much gardening as I can. Moderate temps and lots of sunshine! These are Nemesias, Lavender and Salvia. These started blooming around the first of March..have no idea how long they will last. (I don't know what the white ones are, if anybody knows. Their tag blew away).

Copper Basin OT-1 arrives at the dumping site at Hayden. From here, the copper ore cars will be dumped and carried uphill by conveyor to the ASARCO smelter.

The last stop on our Reading & Northern chase was here splitting the controlled signals just south of the former Lehigh Valley Coxton Yard that is the end point of the run from North Reading. This is MP 3.1 on what modern day RBMN designates as their Susquehanna Branch, the continuation of the former Conrail upper Lehigh Line acquired in 1996. They are crossing over and running parallel here to the former Lackawanna Bloomsburg branch that just to the right of and below them and that is also now operated by RBMN here in this area.

Leading the way is 5019 in its new one of a kind (for now) paint scheme. This locomotive is a rebuilt SD50-2 acquired from CSXT that was originally blt. Mar. 1984 as Seaboard System 8550.

821 rolls by the empties from J42 as it pulls down the main at Weller to continue to Dismal Yard.

WSOR train L599 is arriving Ackerville, WI. My index finger felt like it was going to fall off after I shot this, due to the 2 degree temperature with a nice wind on this bridge.

Black-throated Mango (male) - Widespread but uncommon. Occurring throughout the tropics of South America from Panama to northeast Argentina, the Black-throated Mango is the most widespread member of its genus, and among the most widespread of all hummingbirds. It is primarily found in open vegetation with bushes and scattered trees in many kinds of humid and dry habitats. Despite its widespread distribution, the species shows almost no geographic variation due perhaps to its impressive dispersal capabilities. Migratory, they are seen in São Paulo during spring / summer.

Have a Peaceful Day!

Thanks a lot for your visits, comments, faves, invites, etc. Very much appreciated!

MOVIE PADDINGTON:

Is anyone home?

I have a grumbly tummy

ME:

I'm coming.

I walk to the outside door.

ME:

Paddington...it's you!

How glad I am that you have arrived well.

Come in quickly. I'll prepare food for you and in the meantime you can meet the other bears who live in my house.

PADDINGTON:

Thank you ma'am.

May I have 10 sandwiches with orange marmalade.

ME:

Lucky you. I just bought a big jar of marmalade.

Make yourself comfortable, then I'll prepare your food

By the way. Just call me Mummy Marian

I will, Mrs...er...Mummy Marian

Like my dear friend ,www.flickr.com/photos/40262251@N03/ the bear family is growing.

May I introduce Paddington...Movie Paddington

We both agree: ‘There's always room for one more bear’

Blackbirds have been arriving in our area in large numbers. Green shoots from bulbs are emerging. The temperatures feel like spring. (Morgan County, Alabama) Is this multi-colored bird a juvenile male Red-Winged Blackbird? Your input is appreciated.
