Arnica cordifolia blooms in open woods along the Lone Star Trail in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming

I think that this is Meadow Arnica, a pretty common Colorado wildflower.

I like the effect of using a 1,000mm set up and a sea of yellow in the bokeh behind the main subject flower.

arnica. (City Flower)

A tiny, perfect slender arnica flower, sprouted in the mottled shade beneath the Rocksprings trestle, leans to the east and opens its petals to catch the light and warmth of sunrise. Behind the flower, a bit of debris from the current of the last year's winter rains, snagged against one of the trestle's support columns, has become embedded in the sandy soil and, like the trestle, serves as shelter for the delicate flowers around it.

Quickly posting five photos taken yesterday, 20 July 2022. Another drive to Kananaskis, mainly to get out of my house which is so hot inside. Had a massive, painful toothache last night and today, so need to phone my doctor this afternoon. Really hoping I won't have to drive half way across the city for an in-person appointment. Same thing happened with the same tooth - which needs a root canal - last year. Need antibiotics. Later: I have an appointment at 7:00 pm this evening, which is appreciated. I'm finding that two Tylenol help the pain for between two and three hours, that's all.

The hot days continue, though there is no longer an Alert in place. Yesterday was just too hot and stuffy indoors, so, yet again, I climbed into my car and off I went. Same direction as the previous drive, on 14 July - south-west to Kananaskis. Total mileage was 388 km and I was out for 10 hours. No bears this time, but I was glad to see one little American Pika just when I was ready to give up. Most of my shots will end up being deleted, but finally the tiny Rock Rabbit stopped for two or three seconds, giving me a chance to get one OK shot. Not sure, but its left eye looks like there might be something wrong with it.

Several Bighorn Sheep were on the road, along with quite a lot of vehicles. The poor Sheep are still wearing quite a lot of their shaggy winter coat. No doubt they will be relieved when their summer coats are finally revealed, and they will certainly look much better.

The usual scenic shots had to be taken, of course. This time, I drove as far as Mt. Engadine Lodge before turning around. I was hoping to find a certain pond, but I guess I should have looked on a map at home before my drive. I think the pond must be on the main highway through Kananaskis. Maybe next time.

The Arnica fire blows over Grand Teton during my latest trip into the Tetons. The sunsets were absolutely amazing, which is doubly nice, since sunsets are so terribly difficult to shoot in Grand Teton National Park.

Arnica Lake is a gem of a lake in the Canadian Rockies. It is a bit of a hike to get to: not long but it is steep. I had both my Hasselblad 500C/M (with the 80mm) and my Pentax 67 (with the 45mm) on me for this hike and the two work well together. The 45mm on the Pentax 67 is such a great lens, perhaps one of my all-time favorites. Carrying that much weight in cameras was a bit punishing but I am still glad I did it, mostly because I have the images and my legs have long since forgotten the strain.

I took a couple rolls of one of my favorite all-time films with me as well: Fuji Pro 160C. I had been sitting on these for some time. They are expired of course, but I had gotten several rolls at once and had shot a few so I knew the film was still good. I really loved what this film did with color and wish Fuji still made it.

ARNICA MONTANA

ARNICA MONTANA

Arnica is a wonderful herbaceous plant, about 60 centimeters tall, whose flowers are distinguished by their very bright color and their delicate scent. The yellow or orange flowers are very similar in shape and size to daisies.

Arnica is one of the most widespread and well-known medicinal plants for its numerous beneficial effects. Few people know, however, that arnica is a mountain plant that prefers colder soils at an altitude between 200 and 1000 meters.

The arnica plant is a perennial plant, which blooms over a rather long period and which, if dried and treated, can give life to very effective cosmetic or therapeutic products.

Arnica montana has anti-inflammatory, antirheumatic and analgesic properties. Precisely for this reason it is used in traumatology in the case of bruises, compressions and rheumatic joint disorders that can find rapid relief with a good arnica ointment.
