5/27/10 - At the Fred Meyer at 100 NW 20th Pl in Portland, Oregon. A little like seeing my future self. Anyone who knows me knows I broke my arm when I was a kid, I fell out of a tree, and now it's a little crooked and working on computers all day makes my wrist and arm extra sore, on account of them being crooked. It's not all that helpful to massage your own arm, it's better to have somebody else do it, but sometime's it's all ya got. This guy was wincing and massaging his arm the same way I usually do when it hurts, which is often enough, for those who know me. I feel for you, hippie sandals guy.

The Wendover Arm Trust are in the process of restoring the canal to a navigable state where a large section of the canal developed leaks and was piped under ground.
ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. -- When engineers from the U.S. Army Research Laboratory brainstormed on how to improve Soldier lethality, the idea of a third arm seemed like something that might help.
Mechanical engineer Dan Baechle carefully planned out a device that doesn't need batteries, is lightweight and can evenly distribute the load of a heavy weapon.
"It can help stabilize the weapon and take the load off of their arms," he said. "It's made from composite materials to make it as light as possible, but also to ensure the range of motion that Soldiers need."

Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, c.1863-7

A life-size, full-length plaster cast portrait of Queen Victoria and Albert, the Prince Consort, wearing Anglo-Saxon dress. Prince Albert is shown standing, with his right arm raised, with his right index pointing upwards and wearing a belted tunic and a long cloak gathered on his right shoulder. The skirt of the tunic has an embroidered pattern around the border showing the initials ‘V’ and ‘A’. Queen Victoria is shown wearing a crown over a short veil and standing by Prince Albert’s left side, looking upwards towards him, with her right hand resting on his left shoulder and with her left hand held by his left hand. The cloak arranged over her long dress has an embroidered border showing a lozenge pattern, with the national symbols of Britain alternating inside the lozenges, and with a sequence of crowns on the outside.
This model is believed to be a preparatory work for the marble sculpture of the same subject that was commissioned by Queen Victoria from William Theed (1804-91) and finished c. 1867. The marble version, Queen Victoria noted in her diary, was the idea of the Crown Princess Frederick, Princess Royal and it is believed she also conceived the idea of the Saxon costume.

James Simo, an intelligence analyst assigned to 21st Theater Sustainment Command, during the combatives tournament event of the Army Europe Best Junior Officer and Best Warrior Competitions in Grafenwoehr, Germany, Sept. 19. The competition is a weeklong event that pushes Soldiers to the limits of their physical stamina, bearing, technical and tactical skills. The best warriors are ready and resilient Soldiers who live the army values and lead from the front. “This year was the first year I have been involved with ARM, helping them to edit and produce their marketing materials. I met Sandy and Bobby Darvish through a close friend who is the godfather to their infant son, Alexander. To say how impressed I am at the fine people they are is truly an understatement. What they and Danny and Sheila Darvish have done to create ARM and start the journey to a cure for HIBM is truly amazing.
When I attended the gala, “Touching Tomorrow - A Cure Within Reach”, it was impressive to see a ballroom filled with over 500 people, all supporting the advancement of research for this little-known disease. I found out this was ARM's first international event, with people attending from all over the globe. I also learned that this was the first time patients with HIBM had come to a gala and seeing these bright, talented, beautiful people in all stages of the disease truly touched my heart. Along with the wonderful new media kit that highlighted some of the patients, there was an accompanying video that had interviews with these patients as well. I felt like I knew them after I saw the video and I embraced their faith that a cure is conceivable in the not-too-distant future.
What I have experienced, along with the hope and dedication of the Darvish family and patients, is a movement towards a cure that is growing in depth and breadth. ARM reminds me of “the mouse that roared” - a small organization with a big purpose that is making a big noise in the community to get the word out that people with HIBM are not to be discounted. I applaud them for their efforts and I believe that their new marketing materials coupled with their commitment to find a cure will definitely improve the visibility of ARM in the community and help them raise the necessary funds to continue with their research.”
