A view looking SW from Mt. Alyeska across the Turnagain Arm at low tide toward the Kenai mountains.

"Turnagain Arm was named by William Bligh of HMS Bounty fame. Bligh served as Cook's Sailing Master on his 3rd and final voyage, the aim of which was discovery of the Northwest Passage. Upon reaching the head of Cook Inlet, Bligh was of the opinion that both Knik Arm and Turnagain Arm were the mouths of rivers and not the opening to the Northwest Passage. Under Cook's orders Bligh organized a party to travel up Knik Arm, which quickly returned to report Knik Arm indeed led only to a river.

Afterwards a second party was dispatched up Turnagain Arm and it too returned to report only a river lay ahead. As a result of this frustration the second body of water was given the disingenuous name "Turn Again".

Taken in Hillock Wood, Buckinghamshire, before the storms we had earlier, this tree with arm aloft stands among the wreckage of some of its neighbours. Having briefly visited the site after the storms I was expecting carnage, but all seemed to have survived, ready for me to explore more when the mist returns.

With a train of stone loads from Plum Run, CCET rolls west past an N&W doll arm intermediate just east of Peebles. This was something I didn't know even existed until recently, and I can't think of anywhere else something like it is still standing. It also seems that someone came back here to clean up the brush recently, opening up what I can only imagine was an overgrown mess. I'm glad to reap the fruits of their labor, and it was a treat to be able to shoot such a unique scene.

It was winter, and it was cold. Snow was too little. Nevertheless, children and big children were happy. They built a snowman - with what was there. The snowman stood, he withstood the weather, he withstood the approaching spring for a long time - until he finally disappeared. What remained was what birds used to build nests. Now nothing is dirty and gray. The meadows are green, flowers are blooming, and often the sky is blue. Such is the way of things.

Newhaven Harbour, East Sussex. Waves from the open sea on the other side crash over the harbour arm during a storm.

Spray from waves hitting the other side of the harbour arm. Newhaven, East Sussex.

At low tide, the shallow sea is almost empty. A water roller rolls at 20 to 25 km / hour into the silt at high tide. The silt is very dangerous because of drifting sand. In this bay Captain Cook had to turn back in his quest for the northwest passage. The bay got the name Turnagain Arm.

It is happening again.

Checking your phone won’t stop it.

Full circle, a rugged wheel has turned and stopped

As if retired from its last monster truck rally

Its shadow as heavy as its material density

You sat there all day distracting yourself as usual

But that wheel remained like a portal

If you went up to it, it could be dangerous

First, an arm and then a foot might pass through.

You can see yourself and your life in a different timeline

One in which you didn’t waste your days.

An adventurer for the ages.

You traveled to all the wonders

Had no regrets

Enjoyed each moment of your existence

And one day that other self heard a faint

Ringing in your other ears

A sharp pain behind your alternative eyes

And you just knew, didn’t you?

We tire of the same realities day after day.

I glimpsed a girl passing through

A young human can still eclipse the whole world.

Speeding like a scene in a fast forwarded film

Upset because she had lost a part of herself

A single eyelash carrying the weight of reality

Landing on her cheek softly like a secret

Stolen by a single breeze

A wish she would never get back again.

Located about 45 miles south of Juneau, Alaska, Tracy Arm ends with the impressive North Sawyer Glacier

When our niece and her hubby visited us with their boat for a few days, we were so fortunate to have a beautiful clear day, free of smoke from all the forest fires burning in B.C. at the time. This is a view at the end of Shuswap Lake's Seymour Arm. (17-09-16-8276)

I have seen this Agile wallaby in my backyard a few times. I have spoken to the local wildlife carer and he said that the missing arm and the deformed arm was probably caused by a dingo attack. She must find it difficult to get around because they do use their arms for mobility when they are not hopping with their legs and also cleaning themselves.

🇬🇧 Undertaken in 1762, the development of Place d'Armes, Place de Chambre and Place du Marché opened up the medieval urban fabric on three sides around the cathedral. With the construction of the town hall and parliament building on the Place d'Armes side and the palace of the bishops of Metz

Blondel built a classicist envelope around the three sides of the cathedral that had been cleared.

A sober and majestic main portal was built in 1764 on the side of the bishop's palace

The Portal of the Virgin, which gave access to the collegiate church of Notre-Dame-la-Ronde, was concealed by classical arcades, under which shops opened.

The last additions by Blondel, whose style was at odds with the Romantic ideal of the time, were demolished in 1898 to make way for a neo-Gothic portal inaugurated in 1903 by Kaiser Wilhelm II. The sculptures on the tympanum of the portico depict the Last Judgement. One of the statues sculpted by Auguste Dujardin, representing the prophet Daniel, has the features of the emperor.

Alaska Railroad Train 120S bound for the barge in Whittier is seen hustling along the Turnagain Arm just south of Beluga Point behind a trio of the railroad's geeps. With two of the three remaining as delivered black geeps in this consist, this made for a memorable chase from Potter Marsh down to Portage.
