Dislocato ai piedi di un promontorio roccioso, in provincia di Palermo, sorge uno dei borghi più belli d’Italia, Cefalù.

Cefalù (Gafludi in arabo, Cifalù in siciliano)

Located at the foot of a rocky promontory, in the province of Palermo, stands one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, Cefalù.

Cefalù (Gafludi in Arabic, Cifalù in Sicilian)

The Cathedral of Cefalù, the name with which the Cathedral Basilica of the Transfiguration is known, is a minor basilica located in Cefalù and cathedral of the diocese of the same name, begun in 1131.

According to legend, it would have arisen following the vote to the Most Holy Savior by Roger II, who survived a storm and landed on the town's beaches. The real motivation seems rather of a political-military nature, given its character as a fortress.

The construction events were complex and were finally completed in the Swabian age. An ambulatory created in the thickness of the wall and the same roof, consisting of three roofs, of different eras and different construction techniques, testify to the changes that occurred in the project. The monument has a Romanesque style with Byzantine features.

National monument since 1941, from 3 July 2015 it is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site within the Arab-Norman Route of Palermo, Cefalù and Monreale.

It had been a breathtaking sunrise for us at las Torres.

I had heard ramblings the night before of the pilgrimage many trekkers make to these towers just to witness their spectacular transformation at sunrise. I was puzzled because the location wasn’t exactly an easy destination.

Being fortunate enough to see this location in the right conditions is an absolute rarity and, it seemed, were amongst the lucky few.

I’m not really sure if I have seen anything like this before. A sense of scale here is so quickly lost, the lake in front of me spans almost 1.5km to the base of these three unbelievably big towers and the valley around me is just immense.

Then it happened - the sun crept through the valley behind me and, as if scripted, these three towers transformed to a bright red whilst everything around them remained in shadow.

This was mind blowing!

This sunrise photograph with was taken at Lower Seletar Reservoir, with the sun and colourful clouds above the vegetation of Orchid Country Club. The sun has arisen just above the low lying vegetation, with the sunstar effect partially captured. The trees and palms in the foreground stood out from those in the background of the golf course.

This photograph was taken at sunrise yesterday at the Lower Seletar Reservoir under windy conditions. The sun had arisen above the trees, and illuminated a cloud-let immediately above. There were darker cloud formations which provided interesting contrast with the sun and trees in the Reservoir.

Best wishes for a great weekend.

As I said in the first image of this series, an island arises from the grace of a formation of sandbanks and the further silkting of the channel in between.

Here we see that the channel between the old part of the island Ameland and the sandbank opposite has almost silted up and that a small beach has arisen at the foot.

On this small beach you can see from the dark stripes in the sand that the sea still have some access in the channel at high tide.

A marker post has been driven into the sandy bottom slightly behind the high tide line as a reference point from which to see and measure the growth of the new land.

In the far distance you can see the young row of dunes in the sunlight that protects the land on the North Sea side.

A total overview of the advanced proces of the creation of new land can only be viewed from a high viewpoint and therefore I have to climb the 40 meter high old dune of "De Oerd" in this nature reserve.

I'll be happy to show you this in the next photo....

This photograph was taken recently from the Heritage Bridge of Lower Seletar Reservoir looking towards Orchid Country Club after the sun has arisen.

The bright sun was captured between two clouds, and the configuration resembled an eye in the sky. The silhouette of the trees and lamp post provided locational context. The variously illuminated cloudlets added texture to the landscape.

The church incorporates in its chancel arch masonry dating from c.1200. To this early building a south aisle and south chapel were added in the earlier 13th century; the chancel may also have been lengthened at this time. By the early 19th century a south porch and west tower, constructed of timber, had been added. Restoration of the church took place in 1854-5 under the direction of T.H. Wyatt, when the external walls were rebuilt. In 1933 the south chapel was extended eastwards and an aisle was added to the northern side of the church.

St. Andrew's Church was a chapelry within Downton ecclesiastical parish until 1915 when it was annexed to Odstock parish. Arguments by the inhabitants of Nunton and Bodenham that the church should be detached from Downton parish had arisen since the latter half of the 16th century; at numerous points in the 17th to 19th centuries the scarcity of services was noted.

In 1553 there were three bells, which remain in the church today. Parish registers date from 1672; baptism registers from this date to 1906 are held at the Wiltshire & Swindon History Centre in Chippenham, as are marriage registers from 2000, with a brief gap between 1764 and 1759. Burial registers held at the Centre date from 1672 to 1965. Later registers than those cited here remain with the church.

The Margaretenschlucht is a popular destination in the Odenwald. On the steep slope towards the Neckar, a unique canyon and a canyon forest has arisen, which was placed under nature protection as early as 1940. A narrow path leads through the gorge, some of which is secured with ropes and railings. Especially after heavy or long-lasting rainfalls, you rarely arrive at the top with dry shoes. Just beautiful!

Lifelines, as they have arisen from the pressure of the ice over millions of years.

Taken in a dark corner giving me an opportunity to capture a slightly different shot of the Kangaroo Paw in which its glittery hairs are highlighted. Could almost call it early Christmas decorations! Flash was used for this shot.

The size, flower-stalk height and colour of kangaroo paws flowers varies between the species. Many new forms have also arisen as the result of deliberate hybridisation. The overall colour of the flowers is influenced by fine coloured hairs which cover the flowers and, sometimes, part of the stalk. The flowers appear over spring and summer.

The flowers are pollinated by birds. The long flower-stalks usually rise above the undergrowth and 'advertise' the presence of nectar in the flowers. The stalks also provide a perch for visiting birds.

The shape of the flowers and the position of the pollen-bearing anthers is a feature which allows pollen to be deposited on the head of feeding birds. This pollen is transferred from flower to flower as the birds feed. Different species usually deposit pollen on different areas of the birds' head. This means that pollen from one species is unlikely to be deposited in the flowers of another species.

Note: This shot shows that it was taken today - NO. Actually taken April 24.

The castle is a Hohenaschau arisen from a height Castle in the town of Aschau in the Bavarian-Tyrolean border. It is located about a kilometer outside the city Aschau on a 50 m high rocky ridge.

Above about seven centuries it was the seat of important noble dynasties and center of domination Hohenaschau. From the last third of the 12th century emerged as medieval ring castle on a rocky ridge in Priental, the castle in the 18th century became less important and lapsed. After the extinction of the last aristocratic domination family mid-19th century, the plant changed hands several times and was eventually acquired by the industrialist Theodor Freiherr von Cramer-Klett as a country residence and transformed his family especially his son to the castle. Today, the castle is owned by the Federal Republic of Germany and is used as a holiday and rest home.

When we’re trying to change ourselves or change the other, we’re essentially rejecting what is arising in the present moment. And if we reject it, we can’t really meet it. And if we can’t meet it, we can’t allow the space for understanding, how come this has arisen?

The Brazilian Merganser (Mergus octosetaceus) is one of the most threatened waterfowl in the world and one of the most threatened birds in Americas. Its distribution is restricted to the center-south of Brazil, and parts of Paraguay and Argentina. The species inhabits clean rivers and streams, with rapids and still waters, bordered by forests and with fish abundance. Besides being naturally rare, it has been affected by several human activities that interfere directly or indirectly with its habitats. Until very recently, there was very little available information about Brazilian Merganser. Fortunately, in the last years, intense field studies have improved our knowledge about its habits, ecology and distribution. The information which has been arisen from these studies, although still basic, is helping the species conservation.

In 2006, the Brazilian Ministry of Environment (MMA) published the Action plan for the Brazilian Merganser Conservation, a strategic document with guidelines for conservation actions in long term.

In 2008, the Instituto Terra Brasilis started a project to mark and monitor Brazilian Merganser individuals using colour rings and radio transmitters in the Serra da Canastra region, state of Minas Gerais. We believe the coming results will lead to a major contribution to improve our knowledge about this species, in particular in its territoriality, migration and dispersal.

The cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta (cathedral of Trani) sometimes appealed to Santo Nicola Pellegrino, is the main Catholic place of worship in the city of Trani, in Puglia, mother church of the archdiocese of Trani-Barletta-Bisceglie and, since 1960, minor basilica. Started in 1099, the church was built on the basis of the older one of Santa Maria della Scala. A first building of worship dating back to the fourth century, as evidenced by recent archaeological excavations, would have arisen on the area where the Cathedral is currently located ......... The decisive phase of construction was presumably between 1159 and 1186 under the impulse of Bishop Bertrando II, while around 1200 the completion was to be considered achieved, except for the bell tower

The Gelatinefabriek was a company in Hasselt that existed from 1893-1969. The factory was located at the Kanaalkom in the north of the city, which was dug in 1858 and until 1955, with the arrival of Philips, it was also the largest employer. Since the closure of the factory, the buildings have been in poor condition. In January 2020, the demolition work of the old Gelatine factory started. Only the 60-meter high tower and the former studio of Koen Vanmechelen have been preserved and instead a brand new and hip city district has arisen on the Hasselt marina called “Quartier Bleu”☹️
