Created for Glow's "Art and Architecture" challenge.
Had a lot of fun today playing with photos on my iPad while flying over the U.S. on my way to Michigan. The odd spire - that I tripled above - towers over Pershing Square in downtown Los Angeles. I suspect it has a purpose but I have no idea what it is!
Architecture is the skilful, rigorous and magnificent play of volumes assembled in light. (Le Corbusier)
Went out with Mr Wild yesterday on a pretty sucessful mission. We didn't know that the place we were going was the right one, no background but when we got there (and it took a while) it was worth it.
This is one of the best places I've been exploring just fantastic.
Another architectural composition of Moscow.
Borodinskiy bridge over the river Moscow
At the core of the modern bridge - bearing arch bridge, built in 1911-1912 by engineers NI Oskolkov, MI Schekotova and architect RI Klein (featuring AD Chichagova) as a monument to the Battle of Borodino to 100- anniversary of World War II. Rebuilt in 1952 and 1999-2001, with the replacement of carrying spans, extension and superstructure supports.
Stalin skyscraper built in the years 1948-1953 (architects Professor Vladimir Gelfreikh, MA Minkus). The central volume includes 27 floors, the building height - 172 m. The building is the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation (Russian Foreign Minister).
A characteristic feature of skyscrapers is a great emblem of the USSR on its facade. Emblem mounted in reinforced concrete, is located at an altitude of 114 m and covers an area of 144 square meters.

Kaluga is a city in the European part of Russia, in the Central Federal District. It is located on the banks of the Oka River and its tributaries—the Yachenka, Kaluzhka, and Kiyevka—160 km southwest of central Moscow.
To this day, the origin and date of Kaluga's founding remain a subject of debate among scholars and researchers. The official date of the city's founding is considered to be 1371, the year of the first written mention of Kaluga in surviving sources. The city existed for some as yet unknown period before 1371. Even the first historians of Kaluga noted that the city was much older than its official age. This is confirmed by archaeological excavations at ancient settlement sites in what is now Kaluga. In 2021, Kaluga celebrated its 650th anniversary.
Designed with glass that sits on a steel grid which acts like an eggshell, the Cooled Conservatories at Gardens by the Bay are the world’s largest columnless greenhouses.
A ceiling structure with wonderful geometry, curves and lines
My attempt at something different and linear/artistic.....
Hope everyone enjoyed a terrific Xmas day.
This image was taken at the Mosque-Cathedral of Cordoba (World Heritage Site since 1984) in Andalucia, Spain. It is arguably one of the most significant monuments and one of the most amazing buildings in the western World. The complete evolution of the Omeyan style in Spain can be appreciated in its different sections, as well as the Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque styles of the Christian part.
BTW, I wanted to take the opportunity to inform everyone that Flickr apparently no longer sends notifications to Yahoo mail accounts. I only receive notices regarding promotions by Flickr. As a result, it is impossible to track and reciprocate Faves. Sorry about that and happy holidays!
