Toy Story Hallowe'en Edition

(From the Richard Harvey Kitchen Studio)

Bit of moody backwash at Burton Bradstock, Dorset yesterday. Those waves were stronger than they look and caught me out a few times. Tripod almost swept out to sea - All adds to the fun

Re-uploading this one as it didn't look quite right in the cold light of day. Thanks for the faves on the previous one

In the wake of Tier IV elevation I can only wish you as Merry a Christmas as you can make it. Stay safe everyone and look forward to more photo exchanges in 2021.

Slow shutter speed Puffin in flight.

This image was taken back in 2018 as I was walking through New York's Grand Central Station platform area. I like the symmetry in the image and it was selected in print form for this years North East Midlands Photographic Federation (NEMPF) exhibition at Patching's Farm Art Centre and current on display in Cleethorpes.

Backlit nature’s way…by the morning sun. Complementing my dark October mood.

Fobbing Flood Barrier, Essex UK

Trying a different technique (changing focus during the exposure); very tricky. I'm intrigued by the highlights in this shot!

Pilot whale in the water between Tenerife and La Gomera - wonderful conditions despite a lot of haze. They are so fast underwater that they have been dubbed "cheetah of the seas".

I'm finding street photography much more of a challenge using a film camera. I have to look through the viewfinder for a start, and there's no autofocus to rely on which makes spontaneity almost impossible. Still, this is one of my favourite spots to take images of passers-by, and we had a nice bit of sunshine at the time (unlike now!).

Thanks for looking!

Taken at film speed - developed in Ilfosol 3 (1:9, 9'15" with a little gentle agitation every minute)

Porto Beach Front and Riverside walk.

I hoped the extremely narrow format would create a claustrophobic feel and reflect the slim line of light between the trees in this part of the wood.

Details: shot on pinhole, 6x12 format on 120 Ilford HP5+, processed in Microphen.

Autumn has arrived in Borrowdale

That tree again.

Off to Llanberis for a few days so hopefully something completely different.

Common darters mating - the male hangs on to the female (under) to prevent other males trying to have their way instead of him.

Sand lizard in breeding colours emerging from its burrow to bask in the watery sun. Anything better than nothing I'm guessing. Wide distribution over Europe and over to furthest Russia but not so common in the UK. Lacerta agilis

There's an underpass nearby that has each wall tile painted by members of the public as part of an art project. I went to take some photos, but got distracted by the great light and the passersby instead :D

Getting low down to maximise the reflections in the gulley that runs down the middle of Oozells Square, Birmingham.

Once a working wharf and gravel pit, now a haven of peace and a thriving wildlife habitat.

Spent over an hour watching this whimbrel catching prey and avoiding waves - Tenerife, Alcala

Posted here as my tribute to a former colleague, mentor and friend who passed away yesterday, 2nd March 2022, after suffering an aggressive illness. He’s at peace now. One of the good guys, an artist and polymath, taken from us too soon.

We enjoyed sharing photography amongst other things so I like to think he would have approved of this image. Or if not he would have properly lambasted me for any obvious errors. We all need that from someone…

Rest in peace my friend.

October, 2024 to Groups

I haven’t looked at this picture for some time, for reasons that will be obvious from my narrative above. But I’ve just come back to it, I do like it and there’s no real reason to hide it away. (791/26)

I think these are challenging images... but that's the nature of the artwork... ADP stands for 'Aftermath Dislocation Principle'

and the shipping container only visits places that have had a riot at one time or other. It turns out there was a riot in Macclesfield about 200 years ago. Who knew?!!!

The container & it's contents (by artist Jimmy Cauty) was a feature at Banksy's Dismaland last year.

The outbuilding is on the way out. Flaky brickwork, rotting timbers and those asbestos sheets for a roof. I walked right on by...

Blue sky thinking, a point of view.
