Pekhü Tso

This is a salt lake, Lake Pelkhu Tso is 27 km (17 miles) long and 6 km (4 miles) wide at its narrowest point. Surrounded by rugged mountains on three sides that reach altitudes in excess of 5,725 meters (19,000 ft), numerous small streams drain into the lake. Streams fed by glaciers cascade to the valley floor south of Lake Paiku, but only a few streams actually reach the lake. Lake Pelkhu tso has no stream outlet. Alt: 4,591 m.

Realizing that I hadn't been out to shoot anywhere locally in quite a while, I decided to venture down to Huntley Meadows yesterday morning. It was quite hot and humid, even by sunrise, but that didn't keep the Green Herons away. There were tons of them around the marsh, like this fellow, searching for their breakfast. I thought this scene was a bit more unique due to the numerous bubbles in the water and I imagine it makes for a slightly more difficult hunt for the little Heron. Hopefully it managed to find something to eat.

Upon getting home and uploading my shots, I realized that this was my first set of shots for the entire Summer from Huntley...and Summer is almost over...ugh.

My favorite lake pretty much anywhere, Tamarack Lake has a special place in my heart. I have never felt so detached from the world when I am there. If you ever visit, it will become apparent why. I plan on making yet another trip this year, and hopefully some of you will too!

Brick Lane, London, July 2021

While the Industrial Highway doesn't have anywhere near the number of rail served businesses it did a few decades ago it still offers up a few classic urban railroading scenes. No spot is better to capture the chaos than the busy crossing of Armistice Blvd. which was to be crossed multiple times while pulling and spotting longtime important customer Teknor Apex.

Providence and Worcester Railroad local freight PR-3 has started their day with a quick run out of Valley Falls yard with a single loaded covered hopper of plastic pellets and have arrived at the plant in the Darlington section of town. The crew is lining the switch at MP 2 on the East Providence Running Track as GP38-2 2007 waits patiently. Still dressed in the colors of the pre Genesee and Wyoming independent P&W this unit is original to the road having been built new by EMD for the then only 7 year newly independent company in Nov. 1980 respectively. It has spent its entire career working the of the Ocean State and its neighbors.

Rising beyond is the brick mill complex built by the Phillips Insulated Wire Company between about 1898 and 1927. The company, established in 1888, was one of the most successful manufacturers of coated wire products, in an industry that ranked as the third-largest in Pawtucket. The complex was used by a variety of owners for the manufacture of such products until 2003 and was a railroad customer for many years.

The complete complex originally consisted of one four-story brick, heavy timber structure built in 1898. Thirteen more buildings were built over time, making it one of the largest historic mill complexes in the region. It has since been repurposed into luxury lofts and condos and alas another rail served industry is gone forever with only the shell remaining as a photo prop.

"And the rails go on forever in a silver trail to the setting sun

You can follow them anywhere you want to go

And on Sunday morning easy rider comes to me with apple cider

Leaves me here without a need to know" Al Setwart

Ever since I first heard Al Stewart's "Apple Cider Reconstitution" in the 70's about old railway stations and railway lines, being young, and drinking cider, I have have a picture stuck in my mind, and last week while crossing the lines at my station I saw that picture! Luckily I had my phone camera to capture the moment, just pimped up a bit with a texture.

I still get a buzz out of the song today.

This is a re-worked version of an earlier image. Middlesbrough and Stockton Corporation both bought small batches of Leyland Panther Cubs, which may have passed to Cleveland Transit on its formation in 1974 (clarification welcome). The Panther Cub was a shorter and more robust version of the Panther, which was plagued by structural problems, particularly on dual-door buses. This fictional image, which is based on Chesterfield Corporation ENU 93H, supposes that Transit had inherited some of the problematic Panthers, in this case with Northern Counties bodies (updated 25-May-24).

May '86 This could be on any mountain really, but I know it was on the Aonach Eagach Ridge on the north side of Glencoe. Probably looking west, so the snow would be on the North side.

At 5am I drove my son to the airport, close to the most terrifying experience of my life and we have lived in many Eastern snowy places but with heavy snow falling and no plowing done anywhere 50km/hr was the most I dared to do.

SN/NC: Neomarica Gracilis, Iridaceae Family

Syn: Marica Caerulea, Cypella Caerulea, Galathea Speciosa, Trimezia Caerulea, Neomarica Northiana

One of the most beautiful blooms of spring comes from an unusual member of the Iris family — the walking iris (Neomarica gracilis). Neomarica is a clumping perennial that reaches anywhere from 18 to 36 inches (45-90 cm.). And once you see its flowers, you will appreciate another of its common names—the poor man’s orchid (not to be confused with the Schizanthus poor man’s orchid). This exotic-looking plant with its graceful sword-like foliage has white, yellow or blue flowers that resemble a cross between those of an orchid and an iris. Although they are short lived, lasting only a day, numerous blooms continue to follow over an extended period of time throughout spring, summer and fall. Growing walking iris plants is a great way to enjoy these interesting flowers.

Went a bit click-happy with the shots of the Black Swan nest in suburban Brisbane, but a pleasant change to get a "good news" story anywhere around the South-East corner's waterways.

The Texas State Fair's large open-air mainstage hosts many performers throughout the day, entertaining both foreign and local visitors every fall for three weeks. the fairgrounds are located in an old Industrial area near downtown.

Some days you just gotta pick a direction and ride..

Stopped off at yet another abandoned pub for a quick phone snap...

The 14th century St. Mary Magdalene Church in Wroclaw has two towers, connected by a sky bridge about fifty meters high, a feature I've never seen anywhere else.

The sky bridge is called the Witches' Bridge or Penitents' Bridge because of a legend that made Mrs. Orca's eyes roll: a young girl (Tekla), who refused a life of marriage and housework was cursed by her father to a lifetime of plying a broom on the Penitents' Bridge, which she was forced to do until old age, when a kind young witch (Martyna) took pity and freed her.

The skywalk is also associated with an equally dubious but perhaps more widely believed legend: during the witchcraft trials of the late middle ages the accused were supposed to have been made to walk from one tower to the other along the rail of the bridge; those who survived were found guilty and those who fell were exonerated.

the detroit experiment - revelation

As a nature lover, we didn't mind to hike anywhere。No matter how hard it was, as long as we could enjoy the nature as much as we could...

I hate this feeling

like I'm here, but I'm not.

Like someone cares. But they don't...

Like I belong somewhere else...

Anywhere but here...
