Originally intended to be an excusive "Halo" or "Image" car for American Motors, 7 Prototypes were created, but ultimately the car never went into full scale production.
The AMX/3 is a Mid-Engine, 2-seat Sports Car using the American Motors 390 V8 engine, although 2 of the prototypes were made with the 360 cubic inch V8.
Styling Design was supervised by Richard Teague, and then Giotto Bizzarrini in Italy created the car in steel, rather than fiberglass or aluminum.
BMW was then tasked with suspension design and final performance testing.
The AMX/3 was expected to compete against the Corvette, as well as the Ford/Mercury Pantera, which featured the potent 351 "Cleveland" V8 in 1971, and was also a Mid-Engine car. Because of the expected cost for AMC to produce the AMX/3, it was believed that the car would not have been competitive based on price, and the project was ended.

The AMC AMX is a two-seat GT-style sports car that was produced by American Motors Corporation for the 1968 through 1970 model years. The AMX was also classified as a muscle car, but "unique among other American cars at the time due its short wheelbase". The AMX was also the only American-built steel-bodied two-seater of its time, the first since the 1955-1957 Ford Thunderbird. To a degree, the AMX was a competitor with America's only other two-seater of the era, the Chevrolet Corvette for substantially less money. With a one-inch (2.5 cm) shorter wheelbase than Chevrolet's two-seater, the AMX was often seen by the press as a "Corvette competitor"
During the early cold war period France and Germany decided to collaborating creating a new highly mobile and lightly armored MBT. However, due to splits in both political and engineering goals, the two countries split up to each pursue their own project. This resulted in the German Leopard 1 and the French AMX-30.
As mentioned earlier, the AMX-30 was lightly armored. HEAT ammunition was able to easily penetrate any plausible amount of armor during this time period, so armoring the tank to withstand anything larger than autocannon fire was seen as pointless. Instead, mobility, firepower, and a low profile were seen as more important features for a successful MBT.
Armed with a French 105mm gun (not to be confused with the British L7), the AMX-30 had a decently powerful and quite accurate gun for the time it was introduced at. Later variants such as the AMX-30B2 and BRENUS would be made to keep the tank competitive as technology continued to advance with improvements to the transmission, engine, fire control, and protection.
The AMX-30R (Roland) was a Cold war era French self propelled short range missile launcher based on a highly modified AMX-30 MBT hull. Each vehicle carried a 2x launchers with a total of 10 Roland Missiles, which were supplied to the launcher tubes using an autoloader mechanism.

The first generation, 1968-70 was based on their Javelin ponycar, shortened into a 2-seater car but with a V8 engine standard. This one had a 360 cubic inch engine. A 390 cubic inch engine was also available.
The 1970 model was the last of the first generation. The following model year and generation, the AMX and the Javelin shared the same body.

The AMX-30B2 Brennus (short for "briques réactives de surblindage") was a major upgrade for the AMX-30 MBT that added 112 GIAT BS ERA panels to give the tank much better odds of surviving a hit. in order to remain mobile with the 1.7 tons of additional armor, the tank was given a more powerful engine to compensate.

This is one of those late-'70s AMC Hornet-based AMX's with about 110 horsepower, so really, this sticker on the hood WAS the car's best feature. Shot in 2011, 23-seconds, lit with an LED flashlight.

The original version of this model was never my favorite build. I liked the idea of the rake, but such a severe rake on such a small car just ended up looking a bit comical. I also liked the sloping shoulders, but it made the front end seem far more massive than it should. I smoothed it all out some, removed the rake, and tweaked some internal structures, and I'm much happier with it now.
Now that it's up to my own personal standards, instructions have been posted to Rebrickable!

The dual version of the AMX was not often seen at airshows. MM55037 / 32-64 has special markings of 101° Gruppo. This was the Operation Conversion Unit for the AMX.
All AMXs are now at Istrana with 51° Stormo.
AMX-102 Zssa
Designed as an artillery bombardment unit, the Zssa is notable for the large number of missiles in its stocky yellow frame. A Zssa without additional equipment carries a total number of 44 missiles all over its body. In addition to these missiles, the Zssa is also armed with 30mm vulcan guns, beam sabers and a scatter beam gun. The "basic" version of Zssa is only seen early in the series as Mashymre Cello uses it in his failed attempt to destroy the Argama.
The AMX-30 DCA is a self-propelled anti-aircraft gun of French origin based on the chassis of the AMX-30 MBT. The vehicle is quite similar to the earlier AMX-13 DCA, with the turret being derived from the older SPAAG. Armed with 2x Hispano-Suiza 30mm cannons and equiped with a radar, they posed a potent threat to any low flying aircraft as well as infantry and light armor. While none entered French service, they were purchased by Saudi Arabia under the designation of AMX-30SA.
