Home to Brighton and Hove Albion - the Seagulls
And through the COVID-19 pandemic a UK testing centre for the virus.
The field over looking the Amex stadium is usually a mass of large, vibrant, red poppies each year. This year it’s a field of wild flowers - small poppies, rape seed, dandelions, thistles and something blue? Nowhere near as lovely for a landscape but then I doubt the farmer plants the field for the photographic opportunities it offers.
During starlings season photographers line the pier and the beach. My intention was to capture the photographers lined up on the pier with the murmuration in the frame. That was dependent on the starlings flying nearer the beach or taking a wide angle lens. Luckily I managed to capture a few shots.
It wasn't until I looked at this shot that I realised I'd also captured a photographer in the water. That's the black dot just below the photographers,
Brighton and Hove council announced earlier in the football season that whenever the Seagulls were playing in the UEFA league and at the Amex stadium, then all public places would be lit up in blue. They were playing in Rome last night but I managed to capture the pier neon lights in blue.
The home of Brighton & Hove Albion in Falmer as seen from Ditchling Beacon, a few miles to the north. Being from Crystal Palace territory this was a bit like spying on the enemy. LOL ;-)
Richardsons Volvo B7TL East Lancs Vyking PN05 SYF arrives at the AMEX today, 26th December. 2018, on an additional Park and Ride service provided by Seagull Travel.

The lack of regular train services for the match at the AMEX this afternoon, Boxing Day 2018, led to a couple of extra Park and Ride services being laid on. Richardsons Travel of Midhurst provided three double deckers and this was my first sighting of their ex Metroline Volvo B7TL Plaxton President after three years in the fleet. 802 (Y235 NLK) was numbered VPL235 in London,

It was back to Falmer today (31/01/2026) to have another look at the Brighton & Hove Albion football buses. The visitors today were Everton who brought 20 coaches down to see their team battle out a 1-1 draw.
Among the 100+ buses and coaches seen today were numerous Sussex Coaches vehicles in immaculate condition; a Crown Logistics of Ellesmere Port Irizar PB; a rather nice looking Spirit of Sussex Sunsundegui SC7; a new Compass Bus ADL E400 MMC freshly sign written; and a Parks of Hamilton minibus!!
I was pleasantly surprised to see a higher number of different vehicles than I was expecting and as such I may make a third visit later in the season which of course finishes on 24th May.

The newest feature on the landscape from Ditchling Beacon, the stadium of Brighton and Hove Albion at Falmer, which was opened in 2011
All of today's pictures are panoramas from my early morning walk across the Downs from Falmer to Lewes. Some of the finest Downland views can be seen from this walk. This is the Amex stadium in the context of its surroundings. A lot of effort was put in to try and blend it into the landscape.

Home of Brighton and Hove Albion - changing rooms. Sadly no players getting ready for a match ;-}}}} (or showered afterwards!)
Camera club did a 2 hour tour of the Amex today. Excellent. I’m now very knowledgable about the ins and outs of the premier league. With the American Express Community Stadium its a lot about support for the community.
Today I took 455 out for an afternoon run back to one of its former homes Brighton and recreated the old 42 route. The Big Lemon a new business purchased two former Bournemouth Dennis Darts in 2007 for their 42 service. Here 455 is seen outside the AMEX football stadium home to Brighton & Hove Albion. This stadium was not even built during 455's 42 days but is a nice stop for a photo nonetheless and is beside Brighton Uni.
Brighton & Hove Albion football club play their home fixtures in Falmer, at the 32,000 seater AMEX Stadium next to the A27. Opened in 2011, it is some way from Brighton and Hove and has limited car parking, not just on site but in the general locality as well. So getting there for many involves using a network of organised bus and coach routes which come from all over Sussex! Seagull Travel run at least 16 coach services and 7 bus services to the stadium which complement the 2 park & ride services from Mill Road and Race Hill. There are other services too, such as the 1901 Club, Zeelo and North West Seagulls and of course you have the visiting team and their fans who, depending on where they are from, can send 10 or so coaches. Plus Brighton & Hove run bus services 3X and 23 past the stadium entrance so all said and done it's a 2-hour bus fest!
So on Saturday 18th October, I popped down to capture the bus and coach movements for the 3pm kick-off game between B&HA and Newcastle United, who brought 3,000 fans to the game. I was rewarded with a huge variety of operators, vehicle types, and good company to boot. Highlights for included the number 23 bus in B&HA colours, the Newcastle United team coaches, a pair of 25-plate Reays Coaches, a trio of Chaseside buses, a fine selection of Sussex Coaches including one of their bendy buses, and a pair of Dutch Van Oeveren Reizen Mercedes-Benz coaches!!
A good day then, and I left after bagging 50 home and 9 away buses and coaches in the coach park, around 20 on the park and rides, another 20 or so service buses, and a single non-football related coach that was just passing by. Brighton won 2-1.
