The American robin is a migratory songbird of the true thrush genus and Turdidae, the wider thrush family. It is named after the European robin because of its reddish-orange breast, though the two species are not closely related, with the European robin belonging to the Old World flycatcher family.

American Bitterns are masterfully disguised to blend in with the environment. Had it not been for the kindness of a lady named Corietha it would have easily been missed. I was so appreciative of her pointing it out I sent her a copy of this rare beauty.

Lol my last 4 shots have gotten explored. let's see if I'm guaranteed exploration forever.

AMERICAN GOLDFINCH

One of my favorite memories from last year was watching this juvenile dipper as it stood at the edge of a river in Rocky Mountain National Park, watching its parents dive into the fast-moving water to provide it with food. I'm sure it learned a lot from the adult birds, and hopefully I'm able to have a similar encounter in a couple days.

The American Wigeon is also known as "baldpate" because the white stripe resembles a bald man's head.

Phoenicopterus ruber

(American flamingo / Flamenco del Caribe)

The American Flamingo is the only flamingo distributed through the Caribbean Sea, the northern coasts of South America, and on the Galapagos. It was formerly considered conspecific with the Greater Flamingo (Phoenicopterus roseus) of the Old World.

Like other flamingos, it feeds in saline and brackish lagoons by straining water through the lamellae on its unique bill and swallowing the invertebrate organisms trapped inside. The American tends to feed somewhat deeper than other flamingos, with the head and often much of the neck submerged.

American White Pelicans cooperate when feeding. Sometimes, large groups gather in wetlands. They coordinate their swimming to drive schooling fish toward the shallows. The pelicans can then easily scoop up these corralled fish from the water.
