Il rifugio sorge a 2.256 nel cuore del gruppo del Sassolungo (Langkofel ), nel punto dove convergono il Vallone del Sassolungo e la Conca del Sassopiatto (Plattkofel). La suggestiva posizione, al cospetto di grandiose masse rocciose che incombono da vicino su tre lati, offre un forte contasto con le verdeggianti praterie dell’Alpe di Siusi (Seiser Alm ) e la Val Gardena (Gröden).che si intravedono verso NW.
